Dolphins add veteran tackle Jermon Bushrod

The Dolphins signed another veteran lineman, but this one is more of a depth signing.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have signed former Bears tackle Jermon Bushrod to a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old Bushrod will come in as cover for oft-injured left tackle Branden Albert and right tackle Ja’Wuan James, but the Dolphins may give him a shot to start at guard as well.

If he’s over the shoulder injury that limited him last year, there’s a decent chance he could overtake Dallas Thomas or Billy Turner for a guard job. If not, he’s at least a very good insurance policy.

Bushrod has 96 career starts, though he’s fallen off since his days with the Saints.

  1. Wow he was supposed to visit with the Vikings today!

Looks like Andre Smith to Minnesota now.

  2. I hope there’s plenty of handicap parking at Sunset Life Stadium. These older players are gonna need them. But I do like them bringing in veterans to build a foundation and example for hopefully good young talent they will draft.

  3. The Bears beat writers absolutely loved this guy. Class act all the way. I’m really not sure how much he has left in the tank but he did provide us with a couple of decent years in Chicago (after several years of total garbage before him) and was always 100% pro on and off the field. Good luck Jermon.

  4. This obviously isn’t a signing that will wow us Dolphins fans, but it adds some much needed depth. He basically replaces a HORRIBLE Jason Fox at a lesser cost, so it has to be viewed as an upgrade.

  5. If no more moves are made, I would consider moving James inside to play guard.

He’s okay as the Right tackle, but I think he could dominate as a guard.

  6. Delusional Dolphins fans every free agency. Well every day until week 4 of regular season. Then they realize there mistakes but still believe so funny living down here watching this fanbase.

  7. ” the team sees him as a strong possibility as a starting guard as well as a backup tackle.”

He has been a tackle his whole career.

That’s not all they want to try to beef up Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner to improve them.

And look to the draft for a guard.

Same stuff. What is wrong with this team? Just get a vet guard. Don’t over think this.

Every Saints’ ex O-lineman has fallen off since days with Saints… Its called being a product of Drew Brees and his quick delivery making them look so good…..
