It looks like defensive end Robert Ayers won’t be the only member of the 2015 Giants defense paying the Jaguars a visit in the early days of free agency.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the team will also be hosting cornerback Prince Amukamara. Amukamara, a 2011 first-round pick, has played for the Giants for his entire five-year NFL career.
Amukamara, who is No. 46 on PFT’s list of the top free agents, has done a solid job for most of that time when he’s been healthy, but he hasn’t been healthy enough over the last two seasons. He tore his bicep in 2014 and had a pectoral injury in 2015, limiting him to 18 games in total over the two years.
The Jaguars have Aaron Colvin, Davon House and Dwayne Gratz as their top three corners, which doesn’t make for a particularly imposing group. That could be enough for the Jaguars to bet that Amukamara can spend less time in the trainer’s room as they try to upgrade their defense in coach Gus Bradley’s fourth year at the helm.
