Saints re-sign Kai Forbath

The Saints signed kicker Josh Scobee off the street last week, which ensured they’d have one veteran option for the kicking job in 2016.

They made that two options on Wednesday. Kicker Kai Forbath announced on Instagram that he’ll be back with the Saints, setting up a competition between two experienced players in the coming months.

Forbath signed with the Saints in October after Zach Hocker’s struggles led to his dismissal from the roster. Forbath, who also played one game with the Redskins last season, hit 9-of-13 field goals and made 33-of-34 extra points after arriving in New Orleans.

Forbath spent the first three years of his career in Washington and has been more accurate on field goals over the course of his career, making 69-of-82 tries overall. Getting his average back into that range once the Saints get back to work, he should have a good chance of retaining the job.

  1. I like the fact that we have 2 veterans competing for a job unlike last year with 2 rookies.

Hopefully we make the correct decision because every year there’s at least 2 or 3 games that are decided by the team’s Kicker.

Kai Forbath is one of the coolest names also.

  2. …..I still think the Saints will be drafting Roberto Aguayo so they can STOP switching out kickers year after year. The last time New Orleans drafted a kicker high in the draft it worked out REAL well for them…….Morton Anderson.

  3. The Redskins and Saints have basically swapped 3 kickers back and forth:

Hocker was drafted by the Redskins, lost competition with Forbath, cut, signed with Saints.

Dustin Hopkins signed with the Saints, lost competition with Hocker, cut.

Forbath was cut by the Skins. Hopkins signed by Redskins to replace Forbath.

Saints cut Hocker, replace him with Forbath.

    I’m dizzy.

  4. I like Cobra Kai. He’s a very accurate kicker, he just doesn’t have a huge leg and is poor on kickoffs. If your special teams excels in kickoff coverage, it shouldn’t be too big of an issue. Hope he sticks in New Orleans!

  5. I knew Hopkins was better than Hocker. Everyone could see it.

I WANT AGUAYO. Why won’t the Saints listen to me?
