As more and more running backs sign, one guy voluntarily will remain on the shelf, at least for now.

Arian Foster’s plan is to be patient, per a source with knowledge of the situation. That means waiting to see what happens throughout free agency and the draft, and to make a decision later in the offseason. Foster, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon last season, should be back to 100 percent in the summer.

It makes Foster this year’s Chris Johnson, and Johnson became a pleasant surprise in 2015 for the Cardinals. Foster could end up making a difference for someone in 2016; it ultimately could be the Broncos, if they don’t match the offer sheet signed in Miami by C.J. Anderson.

There’s a perception Foster is washed up. However, Foster rushed for 1,246 yards in 13 games two seasons ago, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.
