Morris Claiborne will remain in Dallas.
Claiborne and the Cowboys agreed to a one-year contract today, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports.
The 26-year-old Claiborne has played his entire career with Dallas. The Cowboys selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. When healthy, Claiborne has usually been a starter. Last year Claiborne started 11 games and missed five with injuries.
A year ago, the Cowboys declined to pick up the fifth-year option on Claiborne’s rookie contract. If they had wanted to at the time, they could have retained him for a 2016 salary of about $11 million. There’s no word yet on what they’re going to end up paying him on this new one-year deal.
UPDATE 5:16 p.m. ET: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Claiborne will make $3 million, with the chance to earn up to $3.75 million with incentives. So the Cowboys are getting him for a whole lot less than they would have paid him if they’d picked up his fifth-year option.
