The Chargers re-signed tight end Antonio Gates this week, but they lost Ladarius Green to the Steelers and both John Phillips and David Johnson are free agents.

That leaves them in need of some depth at the position and they’ll reportedly be hosting someone who could help provide it on Friday. Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the team will meet with James Hanna.

Hanna was a sixth-round pick by the Cowboys after showing well at the Combine in 2012 and has played in 46 games for Dallas over the last four seasons. He’s made 19 starts over the last two seasons, although his 13 catches for 127 yards speak to his primary role as a blocking complement to Jason Witten.

With Gates back in San Diego, Hanna would likely be filling a similar role if he signs with the Chargers.
