Dwayne Bowe is still a Brown

With all the departures from Cleveland this week, one that hasn’t happened continues to stick out like the proverbial sore thumb.

Receiver Dwayne Bowe continues to be a member of the roster.

It’s a surprise on the surface, given how little Bowe gave the Browns in exchange for the $9 million guaranteed he received when signing a year ago. What’s likely holding Bowe in place is a fully-guaranteed salary of $2.85 million for 2016.

The real question is whether the Browns would pay another $3.3 million on top of the guaranteed amount for another chance to see what Bowe can do.

What he did in 2015 was catch five passes for 53 yards. For the entire season.

The only plausible explanation for Bowe’s ongoing presence on the roster is that the Browns hope someone else will call up and offer something for him in draft. After all, the Browns thought it would be a good idea to sign Bowe a year ago; maybe someone else will think it’s a good idea to trade for him in 2016.
