Safety Taylor Mays and linebacker Nick Moody are both unrestricted free agents free to sign with any team in the league, but they won’t be playing for anyone in Week One of the 2016 season.

They’ll be absent in Weeks Two, Three and Four as well. Both players have been suspended four games by the NFL according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Rapoport adds that Mays’ suspension is for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Mays was a second-round pick by the 49ers in 2010 and was traded to the Bengals the next year. He spent four years with the Bengals and bounced from the Vikings to the Lions before landing with the Raiders for 14 games and five starts last season.

Moody was also a 49ers draft pick -- the sixth-round in 2013 in this case -- and played 20 games with the 49ers over his first two seasons before getting released last September. He landed on the Seahawks practice squad and played three games for them later in the year.
