Jerrell Freeman tees off on Coby Fleener

For as dysfunctional as the Colts were in 2015, there’s even more dysfunction between a couple of former Colts who have recently left the premises.

After tight end Coby Fleener declared in an introductory conference call with the Saints that some of his teammates were “along for the ride” in 2015, new Bears linebacker Jerrell Freeman has responded, via text messages sent to Bob Kravitz of WTHR.com.

“Fleener, he didn’t have the [guts],’’ Freeman told Kravitz. “That sh-t pisses me off. And he must’ve been looking in the mirror when he did the interview.

“I despise guys like that,” Freeman added. “That’s what little girls do, talk about you when you’re not around. I’m a grown man. If I see something I don’t like, I’m going to go have a face-to-face convo with that player/players and we are going to get an understanding! I feel like I had a hand in building what’s over there [in Indianapolis], so he’s sh-tting on me, too. . . . That’s a bitch move.”

Unfortunately, the Saints and Bears don’t play each other during the 2016 regular season.

  1. He didn’t nexessarily say that what Fleener said was wrong either. He just said that he doesnt like people talking behind your back. To me it was more of a shot at the coaching staff for not getting everyone to fight hard or get rid of them.

  2. So the “grown man”, who claims he’d only deal with things like this face-to-face, tees off on Fleener through a series of texts to a columnist.

Got it. May as well be some anonymous troll on the PFT site who tees off on you. Oh wait … dang it.

  3. A bitch move is making up a story about under inflated balls cause your team is a bunch of bitches and turtled in the 2015 AFC Championship game.

  4. Consider the source, this is from Bob Kravitz, the entire story is likely made up. His only sources come from NFL headquarters.

  5. So waiting to get on a new team is the time to say this? That’s kind of a B!tch move too isn’t it?

  6. So, Mr Freeman, I assume Mr Fleener was sitting right there beside you when you said this. Otherwise you are talking about him when he’s not around, which, as we have just learned, “is what little girls do.”

  7. Found out who one of the folks along for the ride are. Otherwise he wouldnt be offended, right? If he was one of the hard workers he would have sided with Fleener. But he didnt. Freeman felt his work ethics were attacked, and they were.

  8. If Freeman hits as hard on the field as he did here, the Bears’ D will be fun to watch this year.

  9. Being a Saints fan I feel like I have to side with Fleener. But in this case if it’s true, I can’t.

Don’t feel bad Mr Freeman, unfortunately we all work with guys like that. Me personally, I’m the same way at work and in the real world for that matter. I’ll direct my opinions and comments to the person while they are there, not wait till they leave and start running my trap. It is girlish, but that’s how most people are.

Oh ya and when you do say how you feel directly to the person instead of behind their back, you end up being the “Bad Guy” “Trouble maker”
    “The Cancer Employee”.

  10. Oooooh. I like his fire. Can’t wait to see him knocking heads on the field. Pace is doing a great job, so far. Bring on the draft!

  11. All you had to do was watch any of their games last season w/o Luck to realize that there is a lot of truth to what Fleener said. Little girls cry too, just like you, Freeman.

  12. “I feel like I had a hand in building what’s over there [in Indianapolis], so he’s sh-tting on me, too…”
    ========================
A little defensive there huh Freeman… Had a hand in building what? More dysfunction? Maybe the truth hurts a little lol

  13. When I first heard of Fleener’s comments one of the first things that went through my mind was that whatever Colts player fires back just might be one of the people he was talking about.

  14. He’s right.
Big words from Fleener…..a guy who lead the team in dropped passes and couldn’t block to save his life.
    Good luck Saints fans.

  15. Perhaps it would have been more proper for Coby to speak up face to face with his team mates but sometimes that can lead to wittle feewings getting hurt.

The coaching staff may be relying on the team to self correct but, I think more and more we’ll see guys ‘just along for the ride’ as the millennials bring there own sensibilities to the game

so the coaches need to get on that and stay on that.

One wonders how much Jerrell spoke up when he saw slackers on the team.

  16. He is pretty much doing the same thing though isnt he? Tee’ing off on Fleener through the press instead of directly to him? Why not just call him on the phone?

  17. Freeman should look no further than his comments to explain why he is no longer a Colt. He sounds a bit over the top. I found the comment mundane for end of season.

Players today are so sensitive about comments, which makes me miss the NFL of the 80s. I thought the players had an unwritten rule to settle these little things on the field whenever that may occur.

  18. PC police converging “We are hut that Jerrell Freeman referred to another player as a little girl. Its demeaning to women. I think a suspension is appropriate. In fact, why not a life time ban. Aw, lets not stop there, prison is the answer. Parole in 40 years. Yes that sounds right.”

  19. ““I despise guys like that,” Freeman added. “That’s what little girls do, talk about you when you’re not around. ”

Since the organization starts with a drunken drug addict who tweets away like a teenage girl why would you expect anything less from the players ?

  20. I’ve heard different things over the last two years about Fleerner. I’m not surprised.

We live in a day and age now where men act more and more like women. Whispering behind people’s back instead of going and talking to a man face to face.

Good luck Falcons. Your going to need it. You’ve got a guy who gossips and talks about people behind their backs and smiles in their face.

  21. So umm didn’t Freeman just talk about Fleener when Fleener wasn’t around? They certainly don’t IQ test these guys do they??

  22. Sounds like Freeman is all pissed off because the truth hurts, and he doesn’t like being called out. Just my opinion. If you know you were giving it your all, you would know that Fleener wasn’t talking about you, so I can read between the lines

  23. Hey Jerrell, go sit down. Coby isn’t hiding, go talk to him face to face if you got a problem with his comments. He is just one plane ticket away from you.

  24. The Colts had a disappointing season with multiple distractions and nearly lost their head coach. Fleener didn’t name names and just gave a general overview of what was going on. Somehow, Freeman’s feelings were hurt. Maybe he was part of the problem.

  25. @babyjunkie

Who says Green is better Fleener ?

He couldn’t even take the job from old man Gates.

We’ll see who has better stats at the end of the season.

I guarantee Coby beats him in receptions, yards, and TDs.

  26. Will have to agree with Freeman: is Fleener a 3x Pro Bowler like Jimmy Graham? A 2x Pro Bowler like m’boy Greg Olsen? Dude, don’t talk no crap unless you’ve got the check-marks on your resume, bruh.

  27. “That’s what little girls do, talk about you when you’re not around”….he says while talking about someone that isn’t around.

  28. Fleener should have known better and you can’t criticize Freeman for using the press to defend himself when Fleener used a press conference to attack his old team.

Fleener himself was a huge problem in Indy, never produced what he was capable of plus he had the dropsies.

  29. Freeman is 10 times the player Fleener is, and any Colts fan will tell you that. Saints fans are in for a big surprise when they get to see Fleener dropping passes, not breaking tackles, using alligator arms when he goes across the middle, and not blocking etc…Simply put, he is the biggest pansy to ever play the tight end position. I’m so glad he is gone.

  30. Fleener said nothing wrong at all. Nothing controversial. He simply stated that when things go wrong, that’s when you see who is a good player and who is a bad one. Freeman must have been a bad player who was ‘along for the ride’, because he got really offended over nothing.

  31. @wallabear

Give that boy Fleener time to put on the Saints uniform.

Payton and Brees will transform him into a Pro Bowler.

Did you see what Ben Watson did last year ?

I haven’t seen anything this unseemly since Bruce Irvin called out Teddy Bridgewater for being a coward.

    —————
Was Teddy afraid to at least attempt to recover his own fumble?

  33. Colts locker room is so dysfunctional that former players are getting into verbal duels on their way out the door. Besides Andy Luck & Robert Mathis, they really don’t have any leaders left.

With the rest of the division making good moves thru the draft & FA, I predict a couple of lousy seasons leading up to Pagano & Grigson both getting fired 2 years from now. Irsay should have done it this year but he didn’t have the cajones.

  34. Funny how Fleener never named any names yet Freeman outed himself as one of those being along for the ride by going public.

  35. That’s what little girls do, talk about you when you’re not around. I’m a grown man.

So Fleener didn’t name any names when he made his comments so Freeman must be one of the guys that was along for the ride. If not, why would he say Fleener was talking when he wasn’t around. Then he goes and does the very same thing Fleener did. So not only did he mail it in last year but he’s not very bright. He sure doesn’t sound like a grown man to me. I would say he sounds like a little girl but that would insult little girls.

  36. Mr Freeman are you sexist much and insecure with your manhood since you needed to remind us you are a man? Again, football players are the dumbest people on the planet.

  37. Boy ain’t this the bear calling the Saint black?
But seriously… This Freeman guy is being a hypocrite and I doubt he’s bright enough to realize it.
Furthermore, I’ve heard of Fleener before but the only Freeman I knew was Josh and he didn’t last long.
By the looks of the two teams they’ve gone to I think we will be hearing a lot more about Fleener than Freeman, so let him have this moment in the sun.

  38. Coby Fleener showed a distinct lack of class with his statements. Freemen showed his mentality by responding to it. Both fail the stand up guy test.
I read somewhere that Fleener was the only colt not to miss a game through injury the last couple of years.
When you don’t block, drop passes and don’t go to the tough areas of the field to make a catch your chance of injury is greatly reduced.
Saints fans better hope Brees and Payton can make him a a stud because so far he hasn’t shown any indication he has it within himself to be one.
Colts made the correct call on which TE to sign IMO.
