Kelvin Beachum signs with Jaguars

The Steelers signed a potential left tackle for 2016 when they agreed to a deal with Ryan Harris on Tuesday and the man who opened last season as their starter at the position has landed a contract as well.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Kelvin Beachum has signed with the Jaguars. The Jaguars reportedly wanted Beachum to sign before leaving a Monday visit, but Beachum, who was No. 34 on PFT‘s list of the top free agents, wanted to take time to evaluate his next step. By signing Harris, the Steelers may have made that easier for Beachum.

Beachum started 25 straight games for the Steelers dating back to the 2013 season, but saw the streak come to an end after six games in 2015 because of a torn ACL. If he’s healthy, he could compete with former second overall pick Luke Joeckel on the left side of the line. He also has experience at right tackle, so he could push Jermey Parnell on the other side as well.

With Harris and Beachum signed, Andre Smith and Russell Okung are the top unsigned tackles available in free agency.

  1. Screw the competition. Go trade Luke Joeckel and a 3rd for Seattle’s Michael Bennett. This Jags team was in on the Chandler Jones trade and missed. So it shows Caldwell wants pass rush. Go get him. Seattle will be losing Okung so go get the young guy.

  2. Beachum is a smart dude and seems to devote time to his craft. He won’t overpower or intimidate anyone, but he is a solid Tackle or OL swing man.

    I wish him well.

    Steelers fan

  3. As a steelers fan this guy was pretty damn good before he got hurt. If he comes back 100%, the Jaguars definitely just upgraded. He’s undersized, but still consistently got the job done.

  4. Beachum: Jags offered x, but I’d like to stay.

Colbert: I can only offer 60% of x. I screwed up the cap again. Don’t you want to play for the ‘blessed franchise?’

    Beachum: Sayonara.

Colbert: We gotta field a team and try to protect Ben. Can’t we afford that 3.9 mil bargain basement retread from Denver? It’ll be close, but we’ll try to fit him in. Maybe we’ll have to cut Woodley. I don’t know how Ozzie does it.

No, you don’t. Neither do the clueless fans, LOL

  5. Beachum gets big raise AND never has to wear that hideous throw-up jersey again.

    Win Win situation!

  6. Don’t worry Steelers’ fans. Who says you can’t make an o line out of undrafted rookies? Heck, you get picks 220, 229, and 246. I’m sure there will be a lot of good tackles still hanging around cause Colbert is a genius. Good luck 🙂

  7. And the trolls can’t resist to post on a Steelers-related thread. Well done. Schadenfreude anyone? Lowest form of joy.

Speaking of clueless fans – Woodley hasn’t played for the Steelers since 2013.

  9. Obviously I meant Timmons. Woodley was the old dead money they were saddled with. Thanks for the crucial correction.

  10. Wish Beachum the very best he is a class act. Hard working football player. Now with that said the more I read from Tebowed the more I believe Tebowed is in need of help?? Please Tebowed talk to someone there is no shame in getting help!!! In case you didn’t read the other article Steelers signed the starting LT of the Super Bowl Champs Ryan Harris. No need to wait until 220. Coach Munch coached up Alejandro Villanueva (Undrafted) pretty good!! Back in the burg we refer to folks like you as a Jag-Offs. Nothing personal!!
