Dirk Koetter: Mike Evans needs more consistent work habits

Wide receiver Mike Evans caught more passes for more yards during his second season with the Buccaneers than he did while catching 68 balls for 1,051 yards as a rookie.

That looks like exactly the kind of progress that you’d like to see in a wideout drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft, but Evans’ season wasn’t an entirely positive one. Dropped passes were an issue for Evans all season, including a six-drop day in a loss to the Giants, and working to cut them out of his game will be part of the team’s plans heading into next season.

Speaking at the league meetings on Wednesday, Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, that Evans needs to be more consistent in his preparation and work habits in order to get the most out of his talent.

Koetter has high hopes for that effort and believes Evans will reboud, “if we can call 1,200 yards a bad year.”

Calling it a bad year would be a stretch, but it could have been a better one and the Bucs would like to see what happens if Evans can put it all together.
