Marijuana dispensary wants Mile High naming rights

The Denver Broncos currently play at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, but when Sports Authority filed for bankruptcy last month, the Broncos began hearing from other companies that wanted to purchase the naming rights. And now a new candidate has emerged a company representing an industry that has never previously been involved in stadium naming rights: Marijuana.

Native Roots, a legal marijuana dispensary with 14 stores in Colorado, says it has the money to take over the $6 million a year Sports Authority is currently paying, and the interest to make a competitive bid to rename the Broncos’ home Native Roots Field at Mile High.

“We’re a cannabis company and no one had ever done anything like this in the cannabis sector,” said Rhett Jordan, a founding partner of the company, in an interview with Channel 7 News in Denver.

Sports Authority could still keep the naming rights if it is able to come up with a suitable bankruptcy plan, so it’s possible that the Broncos won’t be looking for a new sponsor. It’s also possible that if they do re-open the bidding, some other company could out-bid Native Roots. And it’s possible that the NFL and the Broncos will simply decide that they’re not ready to do business with a marijuana company, even if it’s perfectly legal in Colorado.

All of which means it’s unlikely the team will actually play at Native Roots Field. But it’s an interesting idea, one that is already getting plenty of attention for Native Roots.

  1. It’ll truly be Mile High Stadium- figuratively and literally. I wonder if they add a staff of people selling joints? Seriously though, marijuana has caused nowhere near the harm than alcohol has in our society. Heck, cellphones kill more people and cause more violence than weed, so why be so terrified to take Native Roots’ name on the stadium in exchange for their money?

  2. Free publicity, that’s all that is. I don’t get why these porn sites don’t do this. What are their PR guys getting paid for? Just throw your hat in the ring, say you consider purchasing naming rights and watch people lose their sh*t. You’ll be everything the media is going to talk about for the next week or so without having to pay a single dime for an ad/commercial.

  3. The whole irony of having an NFL stadium named after a company that sells product that is illegal for players to consume just makes this HIGHly possible it will happen!

  4. Some quick points..

Medical Grade marijuana is not that Cheech and Chong stuff you are thinking about from the 60’s. That stuff is straight hay.

I’d much rather someone smoke their brains out, than drink or pop pills (oxycodon).

Colorado no longer has a problem with their state budget. They have a surplus as far as I have read.

  5. And here comes Roger on his white horse, knight helmet askew, bouncing off balance trying to look cool. “You can’t do that, we will make it against a new rule we are making up at this moment, as we go along. It is about the integrity of the game.”

And Sports Authority also carried and sold a lot of product(s) that the League has made illegal for players to use and wear. So, what’s the difference here?

I personally do not smoke the dumb stuff, but I have no problem with this idea either, in fact it kind of just makes sense.

  7. Roger and the Full 32 are greedy enough to sign deals with any corporation….HGH dispensaries, marijuana retailers, on line gambling sites.
And once the checks clear, the NFL’s Player Persecution Division can continue to fine, suspend, expel its players for HGH, weed, gambling…….using any means of prosecution including manufacturing evidence that defies science. When the commissioner is judge, jury, executioner also in charge of the purse strings, the NFL is invincible with no over site to reign in a league intent on operating as a cartel in the same mold as FIFA.

You’re not paying attention! Boobsanders was pointing out that by merely talking up the possibility, the marijuana firm were getting tons of free publicity.

  9. I think that the Broncos should let them sponsor the physical field & use the fireworks smoke there at mile high to grow their grass on site. Tackled players would have minimal chance of being hurt and the fireworks show would get the crowd “into it”.

There would be no fights at the game & the final scorebox will always end up with a * – TBD, all the while looking towards the survey cards for the highest satisfaction

These cannabis companies are a huge scam. They have no money and frequently cook the books to make it look profitable.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The donkeys also cook their books. Players get paid under the table. Seems like they are made for each other.

  13. Marijuana is a miracle drug with many benefits and no negatives, alcohol kills millions and causes so much suffering. We have Busch Stadium, Coors Field, Miller Field, and nobody cares. And we wonder why a guy like Donald Trump is polling so high among the elderly. The young generation will be running our country soon. That’s good news for us old foggies.

  14. There is still a Federal Law that says Marijuana is illegal. Beer is legal all across the U.S. for those of legal age. That’s the difference.

  15. All of the lazy liberal pot smokers should chime in soon on this as soon as their buzz dies off and they get ready for the job they don’t have. I hate drug addicts….

I would imagine you probably love wasted, fall down drunks though right? I’m kind of the opposite. I hate the alcohol addicts who I see every weekend fighting and walking down the middle of busy roads and peeing on the sides of buildings and swerving all over the road because they’re too drunk to drive. You know why? Because they pose an actual threat to myself and my safety.

  17. Great idea!!!! Why not? Name all the stadiums and arenas after drugs and drug companies. The could have names like Cocaine Arena and Ecstacy Stadium.
Hell — why not name the teams after drugs and booze, too?
The Denver Doobies would match the Native Roots Stadium just fine!!
My Packers could be called the Green Bay Six Packers!!! I love it!!

    _______________

Not even close, the state made so much in tax revenue last year that I got a small tax credit!!

  19. I love how people say there’s no negative impact of smoking pot. Its laughable honestly. We all know at minimum one person who has smoked themselves stupid from years of smoking pot. Soon enough the drug addict nation will have their day and it’ll be legalized across the country. If you’re going to smoke that crap just stay in your parents basement cuz, like, uuhhhh, thats cool maannnnn…

  20. I feel sorry for anyone who has to get their flower through a medical dispensary or recreation shop.

The quality just is not that good.

The best quality comes from home grown. NO COMPARISON. It’s like comparing Miller Lite to a handcrafted brew, or cheap box wine to a fine wine.

So while it’s a nice marketing tool to name Mile High Stadium, and it will probably lead to increased business from out-of-state people, everyone who lives in Colorado knows commercially-produced flower can’t compare to a good home grower.

And there is one fact that I have seen in my 63 years on this planet which is indisputable. The lowering of our standards never ends. Look at any place where standards have been lowered, and you see that it never ends there. Some other group steps up to push the envelope further.
So, today marijuana, tomorrow cocaine and other drugs. You watch. We have long been a country which has been told that we need drugs for everything. If we have a headache, take an aspirin. I love all the commercials for new drugs which air now. They spend as much time telling you how harmful the drugs they want you to take are as they do telling you how how helpful the drugs are for whatever it is your afflicted with.
You and I agree on this and we’ll be criticized and called names for it. But it’s fine by me. Because I know right from wrong and I will always do my best to stay on the side of right.
Using pot to get stoned is wrong, in my book. It’s done by people who aren’t capable of handling the pressures of life without a crutch, just as people who abuse alcohol do it for the same reason.
It’s a sad time in this country, for me. I have seen a steady decline in our morals and standards and it is to the point now that hardly anything surprises me anymore.
My dad had a saying. He’d shake his head every time he heard of someone who died or was very sick because of abusing alcohol, drugs, or smoking. He’d say, “nothing good ever came from using those things”. He was absolutely right, in my opinion. I thank God I listened to him and never smoked, did drugs, or abused alcohol. I drank beer and would have mixed drinks at social gatherings, too. But I never let it become a crutch or felt I couldn’t have a good time unless I did those things. And I haven’t done it in years, except on rare occasions. I just didn’t see what all the thrill was about. All it did for me was make me feel bloated and put on weight.
So — I’m prepared for where we’re headed. I don’t like it, but know I can’t stop it. The good news is, I won’t be around to see it when it destroys us.

I’m glad about one thing. If it ends up being Hillary against Trump, I’ll be able to cancel your vote by voting for Trump.

Liberals have ruined this country and will destroy it before too long. And then they’ll be the first to cry about it, because there will be no one to do the work and fork over the hand-outs to them.

The countries which hate us are so glad people like you vote for the likes of O’Bama and Hillary.

  26. Would be funny. The weed seller could have special game day promotions. There could be a “Gorilla Panic” Thursday night. Bongs lined up with samples, so long as the smokers bought a wrist band to get not the tent.

Colorado cops are constantly busting people trying to bring weed out of the state. It is only a matter of time before one of two things happens. The law is repealed or there is pressure by law enforcement to legalize nation wide.

I don’t smoke it and haven’t since a dime bag cost a dime. I would support legalization as a cost reducing measure. No more courts backed up with pot cases. No more people in prison for pot. And the tax revenues alone could be huge.

  30. These alcohol addicts and holier-than-thou posters who want to bash marijuana users are clueless. I am a 53 year old user who has been smoking most every day since I was 15.

I am a very successful Information Technology administrator with specialty in Microsoft Windows and Exchange Management. Most of the people going to dispensaries are over the age of 30.
Not really a bunch of “stoner kids”!

I have been able to NOT smoke whenever I wanted or needed to, including a recent two-week cruise.
I wonder how many daily drinkers could go 12 days without a DRINK. By the way, I had four drinks the entire trip.

The only addiction to pot is psychological, and you CANNOT overdose. You just get sick and sleep it off. The few stories of tragedy involving pot have mostly involved first time users who had also consumed ALCOHOL.

The substances in weed have very powerful and beneficial properties and the rest of the country should wake up and do some research and get their local laws changed to force the Federal government to end the foolish scourge of bad laws and prosecutions that help no one except lawyers, politicians and the private prison industry.

I don’t beat my wife or kids and have a very stable and satisfying life.

  31. After reading many of these anti-marijuana posts (which are so ignorant), I am so glad I live in a state where it is PRO-CHOICE as it relates to MARIJUANA.

If you want to do it, fine, go for it. If you don’t, that’s fine, too.

Wow. Imagine living in a state with actual CIVIL LIBERTIES WHERE ADULTS GET TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS!

I feel sorry for those who live in states where the government dictates EVERYTHING.

  34. Weed is not as bad as alcohol for your PHYSICAL health (not even close really), but listen, I smoked weed daily from the time I was 18-22. I started realizing I didn’t want to find out the long term daily use of marijuana side effects on your mental health. When you smoke weed to that level, it effects your interactions with people, your social skills, and kills any sense of joy you had for anything outside of smoking (“itd be sick to do this high, itd be sick to do that high”). Weed does not make you violent or anything in that sense bad, but when you are literally high every hour, it’s not a healthy way to live I can promise you that. You only get one brain. I’m just saying use it responsibly and don’t be one to fall into the trap that it’s soo not bad for you that it’s good for you argument. Many studies on the benefits of weed are for people smoking weed 3 times or less a month.

Fans of teams other than the SB winner usually say they’re on to next year. You act like pats fan acted so humble last off season, give me a break.
I seem to remember the pats being favored somewhere around that last time they played the Broncos. Evidently “being on to next year” includes not remembering your team’s most recent game.
The same was said about the Broncos last off season and they faired pretty well. I’m not too concerned. I really can’t wait for two or three more years so most of you will crawl back into the caves you came out of around 2001.

America has never been better? Talk to the working people and senior citizens in this country and you’ll find out how wrong you are. Or better still, talk to wounded veterans.
I don’t know how old you are, but I’m guessing not very old. This country started going downhill in the 60’s and it’s way worse now.
Here’s one for you. A guy knocked on my door the other day and introduced himself as one of our new town board members (been there for a year). He wanted me to sign a petition which is for getting a guy who’s running for the seat which will be vacated by Congressman Chris Gibson (who has announced he will not seek re-election because he will run for Governor in 2018) on the docket.
We started talking and I asked if this guy he wants me to sign for is a liberal. I told him I’m sick of liberals and the way they have ruined this country. I told him I don’t mean to give him a hard time but I have to be honest. He told me it was okay, because he’d already heard that from many other people.
So — apparently I’m not alone. I did not sign for his man, by the way. I told him I would do some research on the guy and get back to him. He is a liberal, so signing for him by me is out.

  41. Yeah, weed is perfectly harmless, yet every stoner I know thinks and talks about weed non-stop. Half of them are incredibly lazy and just want to lay around and smoke. I’ve seen a girl hallucinate on weed and have a freak out, and I’ve known several people who blame weed for starting their anxiety/panic attacks. It’s every bit as harmful and mentally addictive as alchohol if not more so.

  42. Funny how “liberal” is used perjoratively more often than not, yet to the people who are being described, it sounds pretty good. You know, being someone who wants liberty and justice for all. Now where have I heard that before? Seems, like, super familiar. Dude.

  43. Oh and America started going downhill in the 60s?? You mean, when we started giving people their rights as Americans? Seems like you are saying that America was better when it was only for white folks. Don’t remember which poster contributed that gem, and I don’t care. Just astonishing, though it explains the whole Trump phenomenon pretty succinctly.
