Rams kick off preseason in L.A. on August 13

The NFL announced the preseason schedule for the 2016 season on Thursday afternoon and one of the more notable inclusions on the slate is the league’s first game of any kind in Los Angeles in 21 years.

That game will come on Saturday, August 13 when the Rams host the Cowboys in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN. The two teams will square off at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which will serve as the Rams’ home until their new stadium in Inglewood is ready to open.

It was a natural choice for the first week of the preseason because the Cowboys will be holding training camp in Oxnard, California. The Rams will also be in Oxnard, leaving both teams with a short trip down the state for their first game action of the summer.

The Rams will host the Chiefs and travel to Denver before wrapping up the preseason as guests in the Vikings’ new stadium in Minneapolis.

  1. Try to tell me Jones does not control the other 32 NFL owners. He wants something, he gets it. National exposure to show Fomo is alive and well. Nuts the same, Rams back at the coliseum. Yes !!!!!!!!

  2. I live in the LA area. It’s shocking how little excitement there seems to be for this new team. I get that season tickets may have sold, but I’m not seeing any merch, banners, car decals…. nothing.

And I’m not originally from the area, so I won’t be picking any up. But it’s just weird that the city hasn’t seemed to embrace and rally around the idea of the team yet.

Then again, it’s LA. So everyone here is a Broncos fan. Last year they were Patriots fans. Right now they’re Clippers Fans, historically they were Lakers fans. Etc… I hate LA sports “fans”.

  3. With no NFL team in Los Angeles for 20+ years, most of the true fans adopted different teams to follow. Many chose teams from their previous residence and many followed different teams until they found a new favorite. In other words most of the LA football fans already have a team and the Rams will have to win them BACK. Remember they left even though they had full fan support. It was all about….Gasp….MONEY.

  4. Lambs are stupid why not play the jags there first so atleast it looks like you have fans there. I hate the cowboys, but they have almost as many fans as my 49ers. #Nobodyhasitbetter

  5. 20 years ago the socio-economic landscape was a lot different. LA is definitely a huge market, curious to see how fast a losing/winning team takes to catch a loyal fan base. They definitely need a Face of the Franchise. Playoffs would be nice, but not in the foreseeable two or three years. Definitely have to keep fans safe… Cowboys fans and LA? Better double security!

Feel free to go back to where you are originally from! LA Sports fans love watching your team lose to them.

  7. Cowboys are a joke. I hope the Rams kick their butts, even though it isn’t a regular season game.

It will be very special when the Rams take the field. They should play the “Ram It” video on the jumbotron. The movie stars will be out in full force. GO RAMS!!!!

  8. The first game at the Vikings new dome stadium will be epic, too. The taxpayers footed about half of the billion dollar cost. The Vikings future is secure. BTW, they were smart enough not to have a public vote.

  9. “I live in the LA area. It’s shocking how little excitement there seems to be for this new team.”

NFL season doesn’t start for five months, doofus.

What’s shocking is one person professing to speak for 13 million others.

  10. There are tons of people that are stoked about the Rams–and you don’t need a “car decal” to show your enthusiasm. Rams are back where they belong. Haters should go back to where they came from. If you didn’t grow up here, you wouldn’t get it. #hornsup #localsonly
