Dennis Pitta restructures contract with Ravens

Tuesday brought the latest report that tight end Dennis Pitta wants to continue trying to come back to play in the NFL after dislocating his hip twice and missing all but seven games since the start of the 2013 season.

Pitta remains under the contract he signed with the Ravens before the 2014 season, although the $5 million base salary he was set to make was a bit much for a player whose ability to actually get on the field remains in doubt. That won’t stand in the way of the Ravens giving Pitta a chance to resume his career, however.

According to multiple reports, Pitta and the Ravens have agreed to a restructured deal that lowers his salary for the 2016 season. There are no details about what the salary will be now, although Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that he’ll have the ability to make some of the money back via incentives.

The Ravens haven’t confirmed the adjustment, saying only that when Pitta “has an announcement to make, he’ll make it.”
