Former Baylor defensive lineman Shawn Oakman, who was once considered a strong NFL draft prospect, has been arrested on a sexual assault charge.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that Waco police arrested Oakman today. He is accused of sexually assaulting a female Baylor student early on Sunday morning. The woman says Oakman forced her into a bedroom in his home, forcibly removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
According to a police report, Oakman says he had consensual sex with the woman.
A 6-foot-8, 287-pounder with good athletic ability, Oakman was once considered a potential first-round pick. But he did not have a good senior season last year, and he has a history of off-field issues. He began his college career at Penn State, but coach Bill O’Brien kicked him off the team after he was accused of attempting to steal food from a campus store and grabbing the wrist of a cashier who tried to stop him.
The sexual assault charge means Oakman will almost certainly not be drafted, and may never play in the NFL.
