Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans, Bills will watch Deflategate proceedings closely

AP

You can be forgiven at this point if you think you’ve heard enough about Deflategate to last a lifetime. But you’re not done hearing about it.

The NFL is still fighting for the right to suspend Tom Brady. And if the NFL ultimately prevails in court, Brady could be suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.

If that happens, it’s good news for the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills. Those are the first four opponents on the Patriots’ schedule, which was announced tonight.

It remains unclear whether the NFL will win in court, and also unclear whether the NFL will actually go through with suspending Brady if it does win in court. But Deflategate isn’t over yet, and it may end up benefiting the Patriots’ first four opponents.

  1. “You can be forgiven at this point if you think you’ve heard enough about Deflategate to last a lifetime.”

Forgiveness is not going to go both ways this time…

  2. Can’t wait to hear if Brady is suspended for the first 4 games!! That would be great for the Dolphins, after having to start against Seattle. Please suspend him, he deserves it, and we all know the
Patriots have serious problems with “sailing close to the wind”!!!

  3. … and it may end up benefiting the Patriots’ first four opponents.

More than penalizing NE for wrongdoing, the whole point of Framegate was to benefit EVERYBODY else. Especially those in the AFC and AFCE who just can’t seem to get/keep their own houses in order to compete with NE.

  4. It’s unclear if the NFL will suspend Brady if they prevail in this latest court battle?
If the NFL wins this round, they’ll throw an office party and give the guys the rest of the day off. J Jones, Mara & the Wood man will give the Rog an affectionate pat on the bottom for a job well done.

  5. The only way they can beat Brady is with lawyers and a corrupt Commissioner. Sad.

  6. I honestly couldn’t believe we were talking about this possibly leading up to the 2015 season for the patriots. And to be talking about again, now, just astonishing.

    NFL, Nothing Feels Legit

  7. .
The biggest game on the Patriots schedule is week 14 when Jim ( cry me a river) Harbaugh leads his Ravens to Foxboro to avenge their playoff loss to the Patriots, which exposed him as nothing more than a common liar and a ham and egger football coach .
    .

  8. The pats have been, by a huge margin, the best team in the nfl for over 20 years. During that time, the pats were in a SB when Brady was in high school. Nothing is going to change the pats winning ways

  9. Tom Brady should be suspended for life and the Patriots should be stripped of every win ever including the Super Bowls and have their next twenty first round picks taken away.

  10. According to the conspiracy theorist’s, you would think that the NFL front office would have made sure that the Jets would have been two of the first four Patriots opponents.

  12. I wonder how many people would accept penalties based on the Wells Report. Would Goodell? Mara? Dan Rooney? Jerry Jones? Of course not! Because we’re fans we embrace the punishment; it humbles the mighty – not because it’s right but because it fits our desire to have our teams succeed. . I think it’s time people decided if the high handed NFL has acted in accordance with our standards of good faith and honor. If John Mara or Dan Rooney can look himself in the mirror and agree that the Wells report justifies the penalty they have a bigger problem than Goodell.

  13. I hate the Pats … but how is this still a thing? It’s time to move on. For both parties.

  14. That player and the team he plays for will never be able to dissipate the cloud of suspicion that hovers above them. His “legacy” will be forever remembered as one of utter dishonesty.

  15. I forgot all about this issue. I will wager this will be dragged out thru this season again with no firm determination one way or the other. Now it could even end up a tie if it went to the Supreme Court. Crazy

  16. Tom Brady should be suspended for life and the Patriots should be stripped of every win ever including the Super Bowls and have their next twenty first round picks taken away.

And NE would still pummel your team and your hopes into oblivion.

Mara and Rooney are two of the biggest crooks in the league. They don’t care about being fair and they certainly don’t care whether or not we think they are.

Um, except for the Cardinals, I’d take the Pats with Edelman at quarterback over those teams, let alone Garoppolo.

  20. I can’t wait to travel to a whole bunch of Pats away games, mock them and their fans, and sell some DeflateGate hats!

  21. Just suspend Brady for the first 4 games and be done with it. He deserves it. Guilty and changes cell phones every few months. Way to go Tommy, nice excuse, just wait and see what happens when the Judge issues his orders. You may have to ask the wife for a “loan”.

  22. Suspending Brady is the only hope for the feeble teams of the even more feeble-minded. At least you’ve got that going for you. Regardless of how things play out in the courts, you can always give yourselves a hard earned participation trophy to cherish forever.

  23. Cardinals game might be tough. But I can see the Patriots going 4-0 without Brady. You can too.

  24. Nah…Cardinals want to watch Chandler Jones sack Brady when they kick things off on Sunday Night Football. And so do most NFL fans.

Chandler was a good (not great) player in NE. What you’ll find out is that he can be run on and he can disappear on the field for a number of plays. Sheard, Collins, and Hightower are much more important to the Pats D then Jones. Belichick made the right move by trading him.

  29. the Pats can play any day and compete at a high level… but that’s not good enough, they feel it AOK to take advantage of anything and cheat the intent of the game so they can attempt to create a so called dynasty

It’s strange how people will believe the questionable science about climate change, (yes there are many scientists that have debunked climate change), but they won’t believe the over whelming scientific evidence that air pressure in a football can fluctuate from the climate. Just how long did it take you to create this little world you live in? So the other 31 teams play fair and square? The info is out there and no NFL team is exempt from ‘pushing the envelope’. But you don’t want to know about that, right? You want to play the victim and blame everything on those bad, evil Patriots. You need to get over that.

  33. We know the Patriots cheat because they have had 2, count ’em, 2 1st rd draft picks pulled and have been fined $500,000 for cheating. It isn’t a fable. There’s hard proof. Patriot haters are always saying that they cheat all the time, yet haters only spew half truths or down right baseless accusations. Let’s set you straight on the three most talked about allegations.

1)Spygate- The Patriots were not disciplined for video taping other teams signals, but for taping from certain parts of the stadium that were not NFL approved designated areas. Teams were allowed to tape anywhere they chose leading up to 2006. After 2006 teams could still tape signals, but from those NFL designated locations. All NFL teams still tape signals. The reason that the Patriots were penalized was for ignoring Goodell’s memo stating the new rule, not the actual taping.

2)Eligible/ineligible player against the Ravens. These plays were legal at the time and the players reported to the referee. If anyone is to blame, it is Harbaugh for not calling a time out to argue the interpretation of the ruling with the referee.

Funny how Harbaugh basically tried to do the same thing the next season, against the Raiders. What a silly trickster he be.

3)Deflategate-The Ideal Gas Law- Loss of football psi was scientifically proven to dispel any tampering. There is no conclusive evidence that anyone deflated any footballs.

Brady swore under oath that he had no knowledge of ball tampering.

The NFL never asked for Brady’s phone. Brady did turn over a list of numbers that were football related that Ted Wells could follow up with. Wells said in his report that was fine. Wells also stated never wanted Brady’s actual phone!

Brady has been consistent with his sworn testimony, but Goodell and the NFL keep changing their story to fit their narrative of the facts. The NFL has lied time after time, and tried to change the facts by leaking false information.

All the other crap like stealing playbooks, bugging locker rooms, faulty headsets, warm Gatorade are all baseless accusations that have no evidence behind them.

Haters should check their teams cheating history before throwing stones.

    ====================

This ^^^^^ is the epitome of Pats haters. “Wah, you cheated because you used a player with a pass catching number as a non pass catcher, and used a player with a non pass catching number as a pass catcher”. It must have blown your mind in 2003 (maybe?) when Brady tossed it to the RB who then threw it back to Brady. What?!?!? Brady cant catch, he has to throw, he isn’t allowed to do anything but be a QB, such cheaters. These are the people that think the Patriots cheated because they received the tuck rule gift. I bet this guy also cried for years watching NBA teams employ the “hack a Shaq” strategy because he sucked at free throws, cuz after all, that’s playing the game in a manner that was not intended, and it is flim flaming the rules making it unfair and just plain cheating. And this guy cried his eyes out when Barry Bonds got intentionally walked 150 times in a season because it was better to put him on first than to watch him hit it 700 steroid fueled feet. There are so many examples of when teams created an advantage for themselves that are not explicitly violating any rules, and none of those other examples gets the passionate “leave Britney alone” response that is reserved for the Patriots. I find it shocking that these are the responses from men. Children yes, but grown men??? Doing something completely unexpected isn’t clever, it isn’t innovative, it is cheating, because of course it is… I bet this guy’s mind exploded when Belichick took that safety, on purpose, several years ago to change field position. His defense then made the stop, the Pats got the ball back in better field position, drove down the field and won the game. You aren’t supposed to use a safety to your advantage, that isn’t the essence of the rules dammit!

Though lame and annoying, I actually enjoy reading all of the creative “8 degrees of Patriots cheating” style comments, but some of the comments, like the one from random guy above, make me very sad for this country. That dude is either the biggest pansy on the planet or a 10 year old. I’m hoping he is a ten year old, but we all know he isn’t, and that makes us all sad for him

  42. I love it when fans of other teams cry that the Patriots circumvented the rules with eligible receivers. I’m sure these same fans where very upset when other teams used the Wildcat offense. Don’t blame the Patriots, blame the other team for not being prepared.

I’m sure these are the same dolts that claim the Patriots cheated with the Tuck Rule.

  44. Has anyone considered that a 4-game suspension will affect competition both within and outside the division?

Often, a single game determines who makes the playoffs or seeding. The Cardinals will have an advantage over every other team in that division. The Texans will have an advantage. And the Bills and Fins would have an advantage over the Jets.

    ____

Oh, please keep hanging your hat on that. Did you watch that game? Did you notice the Pats ran the ball 15 out of the first 20 plays? That they ran the ball MORE than they passed? Find one other game in the last 3 years, outside of the 2015 AFCCG, where they did that. It was out of character for them, and you know it. Facts are, even if it sounds like an excuse, the Pats were really banged up on the Oline and receiver positions. The Oline was a mess and the Fish have a very good pass rush, along with a guy noted for trying to hurt other players. The Pats came into that game knowing the playoffs were coming, and they know they had to be healthy when it most mattered. Did the game matter for HFA throughout the playoffs? Yes. Is that a bigger concern than having your best player, Brady, healthy for said playoffs? No. The played it like they needed to. Would the AFCCG had been different if they played in NE? Maybe, maybe not. Just being in a different stadium wouldnt have stopped the Denver D against the Pats Oline, they showed they were better that day, I really don’t think it would have changed the outcome. Denver was better that day.

  60. Dolphins are the worst team on the Pats schedule besides the Browns, and that’s pretty close. Too bad the Pats can only play the fins twice. Look forward to going to Miami in December, where Pats fans always outnumber fin fans. They’re always way out of the playoff hunt by then.

  61. What will really get in the Pats haters heads will be Belichik and Garropolo beating the Jets and the Fins without Brady. Then they will be trying to make it illegal to win with a second string QB. Brady can use the rest and win the rest of the season and the SB….be careful what you ask for…

  62. This article is exactly the point and goal of deflategate. The NFL went out of their way to create parity in the AFC East. This is all this has ever been about. It’s just not good for business to have one team dominate the division for so long.

Think about it. If the team was exonerated from any wrong doing why would the team lose draft picks? Why would you suspend one of the best players in the league with no evidence? If anybody thinks that it is about anything else you are fooling yourself.

  63. I see the statements here about “fair” or “cheating” OK I have my views on deflategate. But rather I’ll ask these questions what if this was your team under the microscope?Wouldn’t you want the process to be fair? Wouldn’t you want the accusations of cheating to be proven fairly? Can we honestly prejudices aside believe the fairness of this process? I examine both sides and it is effortless to poke holes in the NFL’s case.

  64. Brady will take it to the Supreme Court and will also get an injunction to prevent suspension at worst case. It will be tied up for another year most likely.

The league certainly won’t suspend him before this is all over with as if they do and they end up losing in the end they will lose any lawsuit that is filed for damages.

  65. I seriously doubt Brady will be suspended, It seems to me that no matter who loses this round, they will appeal. Brady will never sit until his last appeal is up. The NFL won’t stop fighting either. Every one knows this issued could very well be decided in the courts after Brady retires.

We know the Patriots cheat because they have had 2, count ’em, 2 1st rd draft picks pulled and have been fined $500,000 for cheating. It isn’t a fable. There’s hard proof. They had the videotapes. The “Deflator”? Two guys fired for their role in the cheating. Pats fans are delusional. You cheat, plain and simple.
—————————————————————— I defend the Patriots against ignorant haters, because they’re clueless about the facts, spew misinformation and some just down right lie. I’m okay with the haters commenting about the Patriots, but if you do, at least have your facts straight.

The two posts above are what I’m talking about…

The Patriots were not fined for taping defensive signals, but for taping the signals from an area not approved by the NFL. The fine and loss of the draft pick was for disregarding Goodell’s memo. Taping defensive signals is legal and done by all NFL teams, just do it from the NFL designated areas.

    According to the Wells report:

1)Brady and Jastremski (Pats asst.equipment manager) did exchange texts that were football related. There is no evidence that Brady ever contacted McNally by phone or text. Brady didn’t even know McNally’s name, only that he went by the nickname “Bird.”

2)Out of the thousands of texts that were investigated by Wells, the term”Deflator” was used only one time in a text between Jastremski and McNally , May 9, 2014 (out of season)

    3) Jastremski and McNally were never fired, they were suspended at the request of the NFL and were reinstated last season with the NFL’s permission.

Oh, by the way, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? How about reasonable doubt? There is plenty of reasonable doubt, if science can be used to convict, it certainly can be used to acquit. You ever hear of “ideal gas law?”

I’ve yet to hear one logical explanation as to why Brady would text someone and call him the deflator.
    ———————–

Since Brady never once texted McNally, you will never get one. But then you knew that, you’ve seen that lie accurately refuted every time you’ve posted it

  69. So if he sits it’s 2-2 at worst but more likely 3-1. So the four games suspension costs them a game or nothing at all since it’s three wins and a 50/50 game with Arizona with Brady. Assuming the stupidity gets reinforced.

  70. Lefty07, You have brought up an interesting point that proves TB is lying. Both JM and JJ said that not only did Brady know who JM was but also that he knew JM had contact with the officials and he brought the footballs to the field. Tom Brady has denied knowing anything about JM that he only knew JM’s face. It is in the appeals transcript. When asked\told that JJ said he did know, TB just said that he only knew the face. In fact JM said that TB told him personally to tell the refs what his air pressure preference was. That Bird nonsense came from the Pats response to the Wells report. Same as JM calling himself the deflator. There is no reference in the Wells Report where he claims this. But I do find it interesting that the Pats said he knew him by Bird but Tom flately denies this. Who is lying?

  71. OK haters one last time I will educate you
    Deflategate debatable at best
Formationgate was within the rules. If it wasn’t then why the rule change?
    spygate your mantra
walkthroughgate where’s the evidence? well? where? Tuckgate within the rules as the Jets benefited from it earlier in the season and who’d they beat? The Pats
IRgate yes that was cheating in 86 and they were punished
Snowplowgate HC Shula was offered the use of the plow and Commish Rozelle said nope no cheating here
So where is this “culture of cheating”

  72. Whoever cheats the best wins. Everyone cheats in the NFL. There’s a website called your team cheats and lists all the cheating.

Tom Brady and BB are just better at it. And if Tom gets caught, he will cheat his way out of the fine. BOOM—-GOAT !!!

Brady is not lying, he testified that he didn’t know who McNally was. Upon further questioning Brady knew the attendant by sight and only knew him by the name,”Bird.” He was truthful that he didn’t know McNally by his real name, just by the name”Bird.”

    Nice try!

  74. Lefty07, that is not what Tom said when he was asked by the Comissioner. He clearly said he only knew the face. I have read the appeals transcript a couple of times. No where can I find that he knew him as Bird. He clearly states that he only knew him by face. However, the real focus is his denial that not only that he didn’t know him but he had no idea what his job was. Both JJ and JM clealy said that he did. So why is Brady lying? What document says Brady knew as ‘Bird’? Only the Pats’ response to the Wells Report. Read the appeals transcript. Brady denies knowing him by any name. Says he only knew the face.

  75. What Brady did or did not is not relevant. This past summer I was partnered up with a retired labor attorney for a round of golf. This is what he told me( oh he is from Ohio went to law school here Boston and never left but is still loyal to his teams there) He told me that Goodell broke civil law. When an employer has set a standard be it in writing or by example of punishment after an infraction it is a set precedent. Employees would then understand this. For an employer to change that they MUST notify their employees before they exercise the new enforcement practice Once they do that they then have carte blanche of their employees . The NFL set the precedent when they only fined players etc… for equipment violations 25 K was the fine. There has never been a player etc… suspended for equipment violations. Until now There was no record Brady, the Pats , and the NFLPA being notified so Goodell broke civil law

  76. Dan, you make my case. TB knew there were flaws in the system, he gamed them. He knew there was no written rule or rules on what was going on so he took advantage of it. However, he did know he was breaking the rules, he did know what he was doing was cheating and he did know how to weasal his way out it. But do truly believe that Tom Brady does not know the difference between pushing the envelope and cheating? That he did not know cheating was wrong? Your focus has always been on Goodell. I get that you are pissed, but when do you hold Brady accountable for his role in this? His lies and selling his team, owner and fellow NFL players down the river?

  77. MIAMI DOLPHINS 20 vs Patriots 10

The Miami Dolphins kept the Patriots from getting homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Fact.

The Jets and Dolphins beat Brady up so badly that he could barely hold a football, especially since the football was fully inflated now.

The Patriots didn’t make it to the Super Bowl because they didn’t have homefield advantage, you know, where the communications ALWAYS go out for the visiting teams.

Patriots fans live in denial because the truth hurts so badly. The Dolphins only won a few games last season, had an interim head coach, and still were able to beat them and keep them from getting homefield advantage. Boo Hoo

The FACT is that the Patriots desperately wanted to win that game but couldn’t figure out a way to do that. They did NOT lose on purpose, that is just crying and reaching from desperate, whining Patriots fans. If they wanted to lose they wouldn’t have had Brady in the game and risk any further injury. If they wanted to lose they would have started Garoppolo, who Patriots fans ‘think’ is the next Tom Brady. AHAHA

The Patriots will be without Brady for the first four games and will start out the season 0-4 with Garoppolo at the helm. BWAHAHAHA

  78. I dont think Patriots haters rationalize anything. To them 1 PSI increases a player’s passer rating by 5-10, and completion percentage by 10-15 and makes it impossible to fumble.

Also video taping defensive signals is the equivalent of knowing exact play is going to happen before it happens. The Patriots shouldnt be punished for being magicians if all that is true. We should be using their skills for bigger problems than football

Remember when the Patriots were supposed to go 1-15 this year because they didnt have under-inflated balls in their possession this year? That was great.

If the Patriots arent the dominant team when Brady is gone and your team has a witch hunt after them for decades of success due to a great football coaching personnel moves along with awful surrounding teams in the division, don’t cry that its unfair then when your team is being labeled as “cheaters.”

You are getting confused with what was said during Brady’s first interview at Gillette Stadium and the appeal in front of Goodell.

In Brady’s initial interview he stated that he didn’t know McNally. Brady knew McNally’s face, but originally thought that his name was “Burt,” and he was corrected at the interview that McNally’s nickname was actually “Bird.” That’s why there was confusion on Brady’s part who McNally was.

If you see the transcript from the appeal, it never mentions “Bird” specifically, only McNally’s name. Jeffrey Kessler asked the questions about McNally and Brady answered only yes or no to them.

    Again, nice try!

I’m glad that game was your Super Bowl victory! Since 2001, your Dolphins are 10-20 against the Patriots. They’ve only been to the playoffs twice since 2001,(2001, 2008) with both times being a one and done.

Over the last 4 seasons the Patriots have been 12-4 each year. Even if one of those losses are to the Dolphins, the Patriots will win the division at 12-4 and the Fins will be 6-10.

    Enjoy your Super Bowl…

  81. The Patriots passed the ball 4 times in the first half, pretty much tells you they didn’t try to win that game. Why don’t you look at the first game they played and explain that one.”””

Some “genius’ coaching in effect knowing that home field advantage is on the line. Third and long they ran the ball scared. Trying to save brady from the rookie rushers (Shelby took out Bradford)

You can live in denial all you want to, it’s expected from a Patriots fan. No team is going to lose a game on purpose, especially if that team is trying to get homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. AHAHA

If your conspiracy theory were true then Brady would NOT have played in the game, period. They would have had him rest and heal from all his wounds that he suffered from the Jets throwing him all over the field. The didn’t rest him. Why? It’s because to everyone who knows football, that is not what you do in a situation where you are playing for homefield advantage. Your team will be playing that game like it’s their pre-Super Bowl. The Dolphins were fired up with nothing to lose and the Patriots were beat up from the previous game and then the Dolphins finished them off, beating them up even further. It was a great game to watch. 🙂

You don’t know enough about the game to waste time on.

The Patriots cheat. They are proud of their cheating ways. That is why there is a snowplow hanging from their stadium, because they cheated in that game and they are so proud that they got away with it that they have the snowplow on display. A convict drove a snowplow on to the field to help them win a game and they are so proud of that fact they made a shrine for the snowplow. AHAHAHA

  83. Lefty, Brady has always denied knowing who JM was. In his appeal hearing the comissioner asked him directly if he knew who JM was, Brady responded, just his face. The Bird nonsense was put out by the Pats’ response to the Wells Report. Brady has always maintained he doesn’t even know the process or how the footballs get to the field. At least two other people have said otherwise, JJ and JM.

I keep refuting your incorrect conclusion.

    We agree to disagree…

  85. Lefty, I have re-read the transcript. Brady is told that JM’s nick name is Bird. Brady is clear, he only knew his face. That was it. So, if Brady only knew him by face, why didn’t he just say, that is Bird? Or when he found out what Bird’s real name was Jim McNally, why not say I only knew him as Bird?

  86. Wow. If he doesn’t think that NE was playing a very different game than what is typical of them and nearly every other team (by running the ball the entire 1st half instead of throwing it), then this guy dolphinsfreak should change his handle to dolphinsidiot.

  87. The Pats’ would never lose a game on purpose, period. The Oline had struggled in several games, It made sense for BB to study his oline heading into playoffs. The Bills, the Jets and the Dolphins, when playing the Pats have nothing to lose. The most dangerous teams to play during the final 4 games are those that have nothing to lose but every thing to gain by screwing up a division rival playoff hopes or their seeding. Just like the Bills ended the Jets hopes of the playoffs and the Fins making thePats play in Denver. The Pats have no excuses for any loss.

Dang. How sad and pathetic that a fan gets so excited by stopping a division opponent from having HFA. I suppose 40+ years since the last time his loser team won a SB would make one grab at straws to make his investment in his team worth the effort. Dude, you won at home against a vastly limited team due to the most injuries suffered by any team in the league. Plain, simple, fact. We’ll see you twice this year and you best pray NE is once again banged up otherwise both outcomes will surely resemble last years 36-7 thumping your team took.
