Dolphins add ex-Patriot Chris Jones off waivers

Defensive tackle Chris Jones won’t be with the Patriots in 2016, but he will remain in the AFC East.

The NFL’s daily transaction wire brings word that Jones has been claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins. The Patriots deleted Jones from their roster last Friday.

Jones missed all of last season after having surgery to repair an injured calf during the offseason. He started 23 games for the Patriots in 2013 and 2014 and recorded 69 tackles and nine sacks up front in New England.

Jones was a sixth-round pick by the Texans in 2013, got waived at the end of his first camp and briefly played for the Buccaneers before moving onto the Patriots.

In Miami, Jones will compete for playing time on the interior of the line. Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell were the regular starters last season with 2015 second-round pick Jordan Phillips and Deandre Coleman also on hand.

  1. He played well at times when healthy. Good depth player if he can get back to full strength.

  2. Some say NE wanted him back and his release was based on restructuring his contract.

If he stays healthy, he is a good rotational option at DT.

    I wish him the best.

  3. Situational guy and good depth in case of injuries. Can play when healthy. And I’m sure he’s going to sing like a canary. Just like all the other ex-Patriots. SMH.

  4. Fins over paid QB has better stats in his 1st 4 years than that under paid QB in New England.

  5. How many rings does Tannehill have? MVPs?……………………………..Can you say playoff repellent?

chippy that was so hysterical I went and looked figuring there had to be something you were trying to hang your hat on. Since there are only 3 QB ‘stats’ that matter and posts are very slow tonight I thought I would save others the trouble of looking them up.
The first of course is record:
    Brady 48/14 T’hill 29/35
    The second is playoff record:
Brady 9/0 T’hill (strangely not available)
The Third and most important, Rings
    Brady 3 T’hill 0

And if that doesn’t prove stats are for losers nothing does. chippy…er james…your game is fading
Oh well at least we finally agree on something, Tannehill is overpaid and Brady wouldn’t be getting enough if everyone else on that team took a buck a year and they gave him the rest of the cap allotment.

  8. 1st 4 years in the league THill had a better qb rating, more completions, more total yards, more td’s less interceptions. Just the facts…and Tannehill will be around for awhile longer too. Fading? Only your QB thats looking at 40.

  9. There is no doubt that Brady is a better QB. We Dolphins fans don’t need to argue that fact. The patriots have a better team. We are trying to get better just like at one time the roles were switched. I will give the patriots kudos for one thing – they sure know how to get caught cheating. Over and over. Funny thing is that they don’t need to. If Tom ” tiny hands” Brady could hold a fully inflated football, they would have a first round draft pick. Don’t think his suspension won’t happen either. Especially now that a judge has backed Goodell’s rights to discipline the players.

The ‘fact’ is the patty cake era began in ’06. Comparing the first 4 years of ‘stats’ for anyone whose career began before that with someone whose career began after it is a fools game of apples to oranges. Think about it, there’s only one position that has W/L included in their personal stats. That’s why there are only 3 sets of QB stats that matter. Reg season W/L, playoff W/L and rings.

  11. The patty cake era? So any NFL player that played before your so called “era” doesn’t count?

  12. Im pretty sure he was released because Belichick is changing the scheme for his front 7 and Jones doesnt fit it anymore. He is a good 4-3 DT and ST, I think its a good claim by Miami.

Never heard it called the “patty cake era” but I have heard it called Brady rules era

Maybe if you had heard it called the “Carson Palmer Rule Era” you’d be correct instead of wrong.
