Defensive tackle Chris Jones won’t be with the Patriots in 2016, but he will remain in the AFC East.

The NFL’s daily transaction wire brings word that Jones has been claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins. The Patriots deleted Jones from their roster last Friday.

Jones missed all of last season after having surgery to repair an injured calf during the offseason. He started 23 games for the Patriots in 2013 and 2014 and recorded 69 tackles and nine sacks up front in New England.

Jones was a sixth-round pick by the Texans in 2013, got waived at the end of his first camp and briefly played for the Buccaneers before moving onto the Patriots.

In Miami, Jones will compete for playing time on the interior of the line. Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell were the regular starters last season with 2015 second-round pick Jordan Phillips and Deandre Coleman also on hand.
