Report: Sam Bradford “mad” about Eagles trade for No. 2 pick

Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford said earlier this week that chatter about the team adding a quarterback in this year’s draft wasn’t something he was paying attention to and that it was “something I’ll deal with when it happens.”

It will be another week before the Eagles officially add another quarterback to the roster by using the second overall pick they acquired from the Browns on Wednesday, but Bradford has apparently decided to start paying attention. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Bradford, who signed a two-year extension with the Eagles earlier this year, isn’t happy about the Eagles’ trip up the draft board.

“He’s hot,” a source told Schefter. “Who wouldn’t be? This is Philly saying, ‘We don’t see [you] as [a] long-term answer.’ He’s mad and wants to show everyone who’s best.”

Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman said Wednesday that Bradford is still the team’s starter and that the team made him aware of the trade before it was announced publicly. Roseman added he had “no concerns about Sam’s professionalism” and called him a “competitive” player, which fits the characterization in Schefter’s report.

Bradford has $22 million in guaranteed money coming his way under the deal he signed with the Eagles and he’ll have no shortage of suitors for his services if he plays well in 2016. That might not mean the future he envisioned in Philadelphia, but following through on the vow to show people who’s best would still lead to a bright future for Bradford in the NFL.

  1. Sam is reported to have “stomped his feet” when he heard news of the trade.

He is currently undergoing an MRI to determine the how long he will be out for.

  2. LOL. Stomping his feet injury – great joke. Bradford knows he’s now trade bait. Does Chip like him that much? Does he like Mile High? Bradford just became a pawn and he knows it.

  3. He realizes he’s Sam Bradford right? The guy is the Joe Montana of getting big contracts, but he’s the Sam Bradford of QB play.

  4. Eagles fans won’t even know which of their QBs to throw batteries at this year.

  5. I’m not sure which QB the Eagles are taking at #2 but whoever it is will no doubt be better than Bradford.

Bradford should consider himself lucky to have gotten two stupid deals over his career… most guys only get one.

  6. Poor Sam Bradford. He’s like the guy whose date is always looking over her shoulder at the door, looking to see if a better looking guy has come to the party.

  7. Did Bradford actually think anyone saw him as the long term answer? That’s why so many people were upset when he got the contract and guaranteed money he did in the first place.

  8. If only his receives could catch and his guards could block for Murray & Mathews last year Bradford wouldn’t have this problem, but new coach & different GM means they are going to get their guy!

  9. Dude has stolen $92+ million from teams. What exactly is he mad about? Plus, unless he has some catastrophic injury the next year or 2, he’ll get another job somewhere else in the league after leaving Philly. The Mcown brothers are still playing.

  10. Seeing that the old coach let most of their offensive talent walk, and the new one traded the remaining, I think something else is in the works.

  11. Not a Bradford fan and agree that he is way overpaid, but he has also had lousy head coaches.

  12. How much sympathy will Mad Brad get from me?

Split with me the millions you FLEECED the Rams and Eagles out of with your brittleness and mediocrity, and I’ll throw tantrums for you.

  13. He was so pissed he left his mansion in his Lamborghini and went for a drive to cool down.

  14. It is a brilliant move for the Eagles,

They have no excuse for starting their newly drafted QB before he is ready, provided that he gets ready.

They have a very hyped backup in Chase Daniel standing inbetween Bradford and Goff/Wentz, so for once we may just get to see another Aaron Rodgers story, a QB drafted highly that will be given a proper chance to sit and learn, and who knows in the process Sam Bradford may just earn himself a huge contract elsewhere.

Is it nuts to have 40+ million tied up in 3 QBs, ofcourse it is, but if thats what it takes to give a QB time to adjust to the pro game, the way that hes supposed to, then why wouldnt you do it.

  15. Sam is reported to have stomped his feet in response to news of the draft pick. There should be a clause in his contract against doing that. He body is so fragile, he could twist an ankle and end up on the IR just from walking away from a urinal.

  16. .
Remember when Tom Brady skipped mini camp to protest the Patriots drafting of Jimmy Garopollo? Me neither.
    .

  17. Ok, Sam, you’re mad? Then go out and prove you can be somewhat an elite quarterback. Unfortunately, your knees and shoulder are telling you otherwise.

  18. Yeah, no need to worry though Sam, You will be dealt to a better situation or a similiar one at least. No way in the world they keep Chase at that Money Clip and Sam Bradford who will be the odd man out in Pederson Offense with Wentz in Philly (I also feel bad for McLeod Bethel-Thompson as he signed thinking he had a legitimate opportunity to compete for a backup job lol, keep grinding MBT!

  19. Eagles fans praising this move to draft a second pick! What a riot. If this was my team I would be pulling my hair out, this is not worth giving up this:

The Eagles will give up their first-round pick (eighth overall), their third (77th) and fourth (100th), along with their 2017 first-rounder and their 2018 second-rounder.

Eagles fans are dumb if they think this is smart move. A draft pick doesn’t win a SB and now you’re instantly set pick in this draft and the next two, LooL~

  20. This is the most ridiculous draft pick trade in the history of the NFL, the Eagles are going to be screwed and feel this burn for the next 3 years. Absolutely no reason, what so ever to trade 5 picks over 3 years for anyone in the history of all drafts, except a Walter Payton or a Jerry Rice.

    This is an embarrassment!

  21. He has two choices: Be mad and stay mad or man up and play the season of his career. If anything it’ll increase his market value.

Oh, and staying healthy might also help…

  22. Did I just read that it will cost 40 mill to house the Quarterback position? Just to find the future QB?

    Oh my…

    That’s 1/4 of the cap?

    Oh my…

  23. Don’t get mad get even. Go out and prove the Eagles wrong, have a great year and will trade you to a team you can start for next year. Will recoup some picks and you will get another contract.
    Regards,
    Howie

  24. If Bradford were a better QB, he wouldn’t have to be looking over his shoulder. But, he has battled injuries and lackluster performance throughout his career. He should be thankful the Eagles overpaid him on his new deal.

  25. Not as mad as any true Eagles fan, I reckon. They should be burning Roseman in effigy on Broad Street about now.

  26. He’s guaranteed $22M and he’s upset that he’ll have to sit on the bench to earn it? Does he hate the idea of still being able to walk when he’s 50?

Hey Eagles … if you want, for a mere $2.2M (1/10 of Bradford’s salary), you can sit me on your bench. I promise that I’m every bit as qualified not to play as Bradford is, but you can have me for a lot less.

I don’t want to hear it. Nobody in NFL history has been paid more to produce less

I would like to agree but Albert Haynesworth comes to mind.

  28. The Eagles will never ever win a Super Bowl with loser Lurie as owner. This is another RG3 trade. This team has a bad offensive line with an old wore out left tackle so what do they do ? Trade up for another quarterback but not only a quarterback but one who played at an FCS school with no competition. Watch this trade blow up on them.

  29. And as an earlier poster intimated, you guys were hammering Chip Kelly for his personnel moves with the Eagles, weren’t you?
Well, what do you have to say now?? You’re soon gonna have tremendous money tied up in not one, not two, but THREE QB’s???
    🙄

  30. Sam should be happy. He can’t get injured while holding a clipboard (I mean tablet), and he’ll still be collecting his millions. Who would scoff at a gig like that?

  31. People hating on this trade are failing to take into account just how exciting the Eagles 4th preseason game will be.

  32. the more the eagles lose in 2016-17 the more the browns will win and get higher and higher addition 1st round pick in 2017 reminds me of the bk nets getting garnett and pierce trying too beat the miami heat but ended up setitng the team back for 3-5+ years lol
YESS EAGLES KEEP LOSING COME FOOTBALL SEASON

  33. You have 22 million reasons to carry a clipboard…heck I’d be happy with 220 grand to carry a clipboard. Man up, get healthy, have a good summer and be tradable. Only reason to be mad if the check bounces.

  34. Poor Sam… wait, if he requests a trade, and ends up with the Broncos, wouldn’t that all but seal Kap staying with Chimp & the 9’ers? Not sure who that zings more Chimp or Baalke!

  35. Sam, If there is anybody to be made at its Jeffrey Lurie. He is the one who blew up your good gig as Chip’s hand picked guy. Best bet is to go to SF, at the same time he has to ask himself why they signed him to the two year deal though..

  36. What, is he afraid of a little competition? It’s not like Philly doesn’t have $24 million reasons to play him next year to try and justify his contract. He’s lucky he got the contract he did and if I were Philly I’d offer to rip up the contract he has to make him a free agent (assuming he gave back the signing bonus).

  37. Glad it bothers him but he needs to remember that if your not available, your not valuable.

Bradford has shown that he has potential to be a very good QB. He also has demonstrated that he is prone to injury. Drafting a QB is logical. Giving up so much for a player who hasn’t had that many snaps, and none against Division I opponents, seems to be a huge gamble.

If I was Bradford’s agent I would advise him to go out and smoke the competition. If he can put together a 16 game season and show he can be relied upon as a starter in the NFL, it doesn’t matter who they have on the roster.

  38. Only matt flynn can claim he fleesed his team/s more than bradford. Of course jamarcus is the god, but flynn and bradford did zip for the ungodly amount of money they got.

You guys seem to be missing out on the fact that Bradford will not be dealt anywhere this season. First of all, the Eagles will take a huge cap hit if he is dealt. But most importantly, please tell me the other team who is going to give the Eagles even a conditional 7th in the year 2035 at best for Sam Bradford with a contract like that. If anything, the Eagles would have to give another team next years 1st rounder to take Bradford off their hands, but they just traded it away. Bradford is gonna be an Eagle next year. That’s just a fact.

  41. If you’re so MAD, give the money back and tell them “I’m taking my ball and going home!” That will teach them to disrespect Sam Freakin Bradford!

  42. So many Bradford haters on here. I’m not an Eagles fan or hater, and I’m not a Rams fan or hater. I AM a football fan and I actually watch the games. Bradford has never had a solid core around him. Dude has all the tools and is incredibly football smart. Go find a compilation of all the drops last year and you’ll see 2 things from Sam…Accuracy and Timing. Give this kid an O line and a 1 receiver and holy hell will he put up the numbers.
