The Falcons won’t be pursuing Josh Norman, but they will be holding onto one of their current corners through at least the 2017 season.
The Falcons announced on Friday that they have exercised their option on Desmond Trufant’s contract. Trufant was the 22nd overall pick of the 2013 draft and stands to make just over $8 million in 2017 under the terms of the option.
It probably wasn’t a long discussion in the Falcons offices about whether or not to pick up Trufant’s option, which is guaranteed against injury only. Trufant has started every game that the Falcons have played since drafting him and has been their best cornerback for most of that time.
Trufant, who made the Pro Bowl for the first time last season, has 143 tackles, six interceptions and a sack in his 48 appearances for Atlanta.
