Patriots sign Tony Steward, Christian Yount

The Bills waived linebacker Tony Steward this week, but the 2015 sixth-round pick wasn’t out of work for long.

The Patriots announced Friday that they have signed Steward. The team also announced that long snapper Christian Yount has been added to the 90-man roster.

Steward had two tackles while playing seven games as a reserve for Buffalo last season and ended the year on injured reserve. He joins Ramon Humber and Shea McClellin as new additions to the linebacking corps in New England this offseason and will likely battle for a depth spot on defense while also playing special teams.

Yount spent parts of four seasons with the Browns and also played seven games for the Buccaneers in 2011. He’s played in 60 games altogether, although none came in 2015 as Yount was out of the NFL last year. Joe Cardona was the Patriots long snapper last year and remains on the roster.

  1. Pats scraping the bottom of the barrel when you get cast offs from the browns, bills and bucs.

  2. Pats have the best roster in the NFL. Period. Long snapper is insurance for Cardona. It’s unclear if the Navy will let him play.

  3. Steward was an absolute demon at CLEMSON…he suffered a personal tragedy last yr when his fiance from HS passed away from cancer. I’m telling you this guy has the chops,,the speed and the drive to be a starter,,,BB will find it.

Yeah, guys like Jabal Sheard and Aquib Talib just never worked out for us

  5. Love any addition to the defense and special teams. Anything to ease the load for grandpa Brady is fine with me. Deflategate revenge tour 2.0 is going to be epic.

Always nice to see a Jets fan concerned about Brady’s well being. How’s your starting QB…oh wait

Nobody has lost more super bowls than Brady! Let that sink in!

Jim Kelly is 0-4, Elway is 2-3, and Fran Tarkenton is 0-3 in Super Bowls… good try tho

    Elegy, Tarkenton, Jim Kelly.

I know you hate Brady, and the Patriots, but you could Google Super Bowl losses by quarterback.

  9. Sounds good. Castoffs from bad teams are usually more motivated if they get a chance to play for a winning team.

  10. “Once players enter the AFC East zone they can’t get out. Seems all the teams just sign each others cuts.” True. It is also true of any other division. The players coaches know are the ones that they play the most.

The AFC North is a swap meet as well

Um… What about Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills 0-4 in Super Bowls? Doesn’t that count in your book, or do you just ignore that? Tom Brady 4-2, just in case you thought that was 0-6

just off the top of my head, how about Jim Kelly, and the rest of the Bills that were on 4 consecutive SB losers

And no one has won more. He certainly has been to a lot of them.

Says the Vikings fan whose team had a QB lose 3 without ever winning even one
    Most SB losses:
    Jim Kelly-4
    Fran Tarkenton-3
    John Elway-3
Brady, Staubach, Warner, P.Manning, Morton have all lost 2.

Brady is also tied with 2 other guys you probably can’t recall named Montana and Bradshaw for most SB wins. And so you don’t have to look it up Brady is the only one of those 3 still playing.

Just goes to show you how bad Coach REX knows talent………

Laugh all you want… journeymen in the NFL add to the teams overall strength and depth in a 16 game season.. to down play this and make sport is only laughable from the ones looking down on the ones looking up which is 90% of the other NFL teams.

  17. Minicamps and training camp need several long snappers just to get the special teams work in. Cardona’s almost certainly the guy. Yount’s a camp body trying to make an impression.

Babe ruth also lost more world series games, struck out mor and left more men on base than anyone

Barry Sanders led the NFL in negative yards. I still wouldhave him on my team.

  19. Pats scraping the bottom of the barrel?… So what? Pats always do. Other teams skim the top ( even the Pats top) but are losers anyways.
Malcolm Butler wasn’t even in the barrel… Jealous losers…

  20. He’ll be cut right after he hands over the Bills playbook and tells Ernie Adams what the defensive signals are.

Everybody already knows all the Bills plays and defensive signals.

  21. The 18-1 season SB loss to the Giants was the most the painful to me. We had the best offense in history, Brady in his prime and we only managed to score 14 points against a good but not great Giants defense? I still call that the biggest choke job in history.

For a Jets fan it was going to be painful for you no matter who won, your most hated rival or the big brother Giants

    Dear Mister Fake Patriots Fan,
Actually, the biggest choke in sports history would be the 2004 Yankees…up 3-0 to the Red Sox, and couldn’t win just ONE SINGLE GAME in the next FOUR !!!! Ahahhahaaahahahaahahhahahahhahaahahhahahahaahaa
