Former Patriots nose tackle Ron Brace dies

Former Patriots nose tackle Ron Brace was found dead on Saturday evening.

Per MassLive.com, police found no obvious signs as to cause of death and believe it is “not suspicious.” Brace was 29.

“We were deeply saddened to hear the news this morning of Ron Brace’s death,” a statement released by the Patriots late Sunday afternoon said. “Seven years ago tomorrow (4/25/09), we drafted Ron after his standout career at Boston College. During his Patriots career, the Springfield native was always eager to volunteer and give back in our communities, especially when those community initiatives were held in Western Mass.

“It is difficult to believe that someone so young and in the prime of his life is no longer with us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ron’s family, friends and the many former teammates who will mourn Ron’s passing.”

A second-round pick in 2009, Brace played in 39 games over four seasons with the Patriots.

  1. Maybe ‘not suspicious’ means no foul play, but something is wrong here. An athlete good enough to make a major college program, and then get drafted at the top of the 2nd rnd? Overweight/washout or not, this doesn’t pass the smell test. Dead of natural causes at 29? Stranger than Prince.

  2. A tragedy. A man taken from his family too young.

Yet the haters can’t resist any chance they get. Some are simply a horror of a human being.

  3. OMG, all my many prayers to his family, his friends, his team mates, his coaches, his neighbors………….everyone. Even though I never knew him, he was a pro baller and that makes his life so much more special than yours or mine or even god’s. Take care RB, RIP!

  4. He was part of a pretty damn good DT tandem with Raji at BC… It’s a shame he went so young.

  5. RIP to Brace and sympathy to his loved ones.

Some of you need to do some soul-searching and figure out what’s wrong with you or your life, that you would take the death of a 29 year old man as an opportunity to take a cheap shot at a team you don’t like. There is definately something wrong with you and the ones who are giving thumbs up to those comments are just as sick.

  6. Very sad…A suggestion about the comments that are in bad taste here. Don’t respond to them, and don’t do a “thumbs down.” All they want is attention. Let’s ignore them, and instead think about Ron’s family and friends.

  7. All you people that are using the death of a young man to take a shot at the Patriots are disgusting. Your behavior is worse than any cheating the team “allegedly” did.

  8. Just unbelievable some posters are using this tragedy as a time to post negatives comments. What despicable people. DESPICABLE !!
Prayers to the family , RIP .

  9. A young man lost to his community, former team mates and his family.

    Way too early at 29

I remember meeting him during his first Pats camp. Humble and focused.

  10. May you rest in peace Ron Brace.

For all others here who just read a blog header about a person that just died and decided to actually post about how much they hate the Pats instead of condolences to his family, I have but one thing to say to you…

May you rest in peace soon…

  11. RIP
Condolences to his family, friends and community.

Thanks go out to the moderator who removed the vile comments that were previously posted. They had no place here nor anywhere for that matter.

  12. If you have to downvote simple rest in peace or condolences for a young man like this you’re a pretty sad excuse for a human being.

  13. What is up with all the Patriots fans? I didn’t read anything that was bashing the Patriots. They only stated how it was a shame someone that age passed away and wondered if his weight may have attributed to it. That thought crossed my mind as well. It’s not normal for someone to pass away at 29. But go ahead…act like you’ve been insulted. Instead of being insulted maybe you should be more concerned about the kid than the fake righteous indignation.

Thankfully, PFT moderators have erased some of the repulsive comments that were posted. But they were there. Thank you PFT.

  15. Whenwilliteverend: that’s because profootball talk took down ALL the negative postings that were up when the story first broke .Jag1959 graciously thanked the moderator for that, see their comment!

I think those comments were (rightfully) deleted by a moderater before you seen them. I’m no Pats fan but it’s never ok to use the death of a young person as a launch pad for insulting a team that you don’t like.

I hope those who knew the kid find peace soon. Very tragic.

  17. Had to read all the comments to see what these “haters” were saying about this tragedy and found just the one curious comment.

I wonder if the playing the victim of others jealousies was carried too far –to the point of caricature. It was embarrassing to read these.

  18. Terrible news. And yet a reminder to all of us how fleeting life can be. Try not to leave anything unsaid or undone as you prepare for bed each night.

God bless and watch over you all.

RIP to a former Super Bowl champion.

Umm, Brace wasn’t on the team in 2014.

  20. ……….Sleep apnea guys……if youre a big man gets yourself checked out…..using a CPAP machine sucks getting use to it BUT it wil SAVE your life. When you have sleep apnea, you snore and your heart stops for a few secounds…you then make gurgling sounds, gasping for air sounds when the CO builds up. You catch your breath and then go back to sleep. It puts TREMENDOUS stress on your heart cause it will happend up to 20 to 30 times a night. At some point its a time bonb and you havea heart attack or stroke and die in your sleep. Happened to Reggie White. Get yourself checked if you snore and are always tired . Sleep well everyone!.

  21. RIP MR BRACE…My condolences to all whose life you touched both known and unknown.

Now to BadBabyJane…. Can’t speak for everyone just myself. However I’m not posting because he is a celebrity. Now I may know of his demise because he played in the NFL but that is beside the point. I am posting because a young man. Who by all accounts was a good guy, died ,seemingly, too young. I say seemingly because i believe God says when our times up. So what seems too young to us is actually right on time in reality. I’m sure many others are posting for the same reason. So try to think before you bad mouth people next time. Better yet try to ask their reasons. The only dumb answer is the one not asked after all.

  22. Ron Brace was a star player at Burncoat High in Worcester, MA. RIP Ron, you were a helluva HS player.

  23. Near the end of his short stay with the Patriots didn’t he have some kind of health issue that kept him from competing? If I recall it was some form of heart ailment. Once a Patriot always a Patriot. Rest in Peace Ron Brace.

Don’t recall the heart ailment. He did have an arm or elbow injury that put him on the PUP list for a bit….

    Could be.

IIRC White’s death was from a heart arrythmia and I know sleep apnea certainly can cause that.
