Lions take Taylor Decker with 16th pick

A run on offensive tackles is continuing in the NFL draft, with the Lions selecting Taylor Decker from Ohio State.

The Lions turned in their card almost immediately after they were on the clock, suggesting that Decker was very high on their draft board. It’s easy to see why: Decker is NFL-ready and can play either right tackle or left tackle on a team that needs help protecting Matthew Stafford.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has called Decker one of the best players he’s coached, comparing him to brothers Mike Pouncey and Maurkice Pouncey (whom Meyer coached at Florida) in terms of their ability to translate college success to the next level.

It’s been a big night for Ohio State, who also had Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott and Eli Apple in the first half of the first round. The Buckeyes are sending plenty of talent to the NFL.

  1. Decker will probably start at RT for at least a year. Appears to be a good choice by the Lions.

  2. Lions lose the best DL and WR in the past two years and they draft an O lineman

Passed on Treadwell and now Golden Turd is your number 1, hahahahaha!

    LoLions!!

Spoken like a someone who truly doesn’t know anything about running a football team, nor anything about this draft.

It happens to be a draft that is deep at D-Line & WR. There is a tremendous drop off from the top tier OT’s to the 2nd tier. Hardly any in DT. Not so much at WR. The Lions got a top tier OT which was a glaring position of need. The draft pick/need/value matched.

The Lions need a number 3 WR not a No 1. They have a 6’2″ 198lb WR named Marvin Jones to go along with Golden Tate. A Speedy sure handed field stretcher in the draft or FA will open up the passing game for them.

Behind DT, they need a CB, OLB, S, WR in this draft.

So good luck to you “rlpftt” and to your team. I will respect them and you as well as the new draft picks that they bring on your team.

  4. The Lions are disaster, no matter how you cut it! They built a decent team around Suh and Megatron and they fell completely apart. Jones and Tate are ok receivers, but neither are in the top 15. Drafting this O-Lineman was a good move and they can still get some decent players in the 2nd and 3rd. The rlpftt is an avid Lions troll, btw.
