A run on offensive tackles is continuing in the NFL draft, with the Lions selecting Taylor Decker from Ohio State.
The Lions turned in their card almost immediately after they were on the clock, suggesting that Decker was very high on their draft board. It’s easy to see why: Decker is NFL-ready and can play either right tackle or left tackle on a team that needs help protecting Matthew Stafford.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has called Decker one of the best players he’s coached, comparing him to brothers Mike Pouncey and Maurkice Pouncey (whom Meyer coached at Florida) in terms of their ability to translate college success to the next level.
It’s been a big night for Ohio State, who also had Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott and Eli Apple in the first half of the first round. The Buckeyes are sending plenty of talent to the NFL.
