Adrian Peterson: Teddy Bridgewater reminds me of Tom Brady

Getty Images

If the Vikings are going to make good on running back Adrian Peterson’s recent suggestion that the team can win it all this season, the team will need stellar quarterback play from Teddy Bridgewater. Peterson seems to believe that will happen.

“His third year in, that’s a moment when a young guy really just comes to himself,” Peterson said on Friday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio. “I feel like these past two years have been good. His first year I felt like was an awesome opportunity with me not being back there to really kind of have a load on his shoulders. Then last year we went through those first couple of weeks just kind of balancing things out with me being back there. I feel like this year with how I feel the offensive line will perform that’s just going to make him an even better player. Just having more time to sit back there in the pocket and deliver the ball.”

With more time to deliver the ball, Bridgewater will have more time to make Peterson think of one specific quarterback who has done fairly well for himself.

“He reminds me of a Tom Brady because Tom Brady is great at those mediocre passes,” Peterson said. “Those short passes and midrange passes and that’s exactly what Teddy does as well. He’s the type of guy that needs the receiver that runs routes and that’s at a specific location that you’re practicing. So I feel like with the additions that we’ve made to the offensive line and of course me envisioning what I’ll be able to bring to the offense as well I think that’s going to make his job a lot easier. With that he’ll feel more comfortable and he can really get back there and just play his game. So I’m expecting big things from Teddy this year.”

The key will be improved offensive line play. Last year, the line struggled. This year, the Vikings have added Alex Boone and Andre Smith as coach Mike Zimmer tries to infuse a nastier demeanor into the unit. If, combined with better blocking, Bridgewater can get into the front of his prime while Peterson still has some solid years left, maybe this is the year when the pieces finally get put together.

  1. Keep Tom Brady’s words out of your mouth AP when comparing Teddy to the GOAT.

  2. As a Pats fan living in MN I know a ton of people who want you to be right Adrian. If he gets to be the average of what he’s been and Brady that would still a QB that’s worth starting for ten years.

  3. Oh yeah! Tom Brady. That’s it. I just couldn’t think of that. But yeah, I see it all now.
    GEEUZ, Tom Brady?
When does Peterson start the concussion protocol?

  4. I am a huge Vikings fan and see this for what it is. One teammate showing support for another. I am guardedly optimistic about TB but it is really soon for Brady comparisons.

  5. The Vikings have a solid team but people forget the biggest acquisition by any team this off-season is going to be by the Packers getting a healthy Jordy Nelson. With Jordy Nelson coming back plus adding a TE that can stretch the field in Jared Cook and a finally in-shape Eddie Lacy and a potential year 2 breakout WR in Ty Montgomery I predict the Vikes don’t even win their own division. This is not to disrespect them they are the defending division champs and whether you like Adrian Peterson or not you have to respect him sticking up for his QB. I say 10-6 and wildcard for the Vikes this year. I think the comparisons to Tom Brady are a bit silly.

  6. I have no idea what this means and I’m not sure I wanna know

“His third year in, that’s a moment when a young guy really just comes to himself,”

  7. “He reminds me of a Tom Brady because Tom Brady is great at those mediocre passes,” Peterson said.

Not sure Peterson knows what “mediocre” means. Let me help by using the word in a sentence:

Throughout his career, 96% of the receivers that Tom Brady has had to throw passes to have been mediocre, and still he’s won four Super Bowls.

    See? Hope that helps.

  8. Peterson was referring to accuracy in medium routes. Of course, that doesn’t stop people here from saying Peterson is nuts and Tom Brady cheats because that’s what makes these threads go. As a Brady fan, I get what Peterson is talking about and I like Bridgewater’s game. He’s good.

  9. As a Viking fan, I’m embarrassed by that comparison. Teddy has won nothing yet.

  10. Yes the aging Tom Brady does not have the long ball anymore but younger Brady did. Brady can now compensate his weakening arm with experience with reading defenses and running the same offense for a long time. Bridgewater does not have that experience yet so he will need to work on his deep passes if he wants long term success in this league.

  11. Yeah I can totally see that. What with having the same initials and both lining up behind the center and all.. And Brady is the master when it comes to read, react and taking what the D gives you just like…oh, wait.

  12. AP has definitely been drinking the off season purple koolaid, and some good stuff from Colorado. Even the most die hard Viking fans have got to be shaking their head. Keep the mic on AP, he is providing the rest of the league with a lot of laughs. then the season will start and the Vikings will provide the rest of us with laughs.

  13. AP is delusional, concussed one time too many. Im no Tom Brady fan but he also throws a pretty f-in nice long ball, something baby hands Bridgewater just physically can’t do.

  14. It’s a bit early for popcorn, but I could make an exception in this case.

  15. He thinks NFL players are subjected to conditions like 18th/19th century slaves and Bridgewater reminds him of Brady. This is by no measure a smart man.

  16. At least Teddy didn’t choke like 12 in green gay or cheats like 12 in New England. AP making comments like this just to make Teddy think he needs to be better and he will improve tons this year, mark it down. Super Bowl, baby.

  17. It’s not like he said “Teddy is as good as Brady” He just said that Teddy reminded him for the short and intermediate passes. I heard the interview and he never meant he was a good as Tom. PFT needed news.

  18. How dare he compare Teddy to Tommy! Teddy is a man of honesty and integrity and would never allow his wife to dress him up as a girl.

  19. If you’re a Vikings fan and embarrassed by AP’s comment then don’t be a Vikes fan. We real Vikings fans are standing by his comments. Green Gay losers.

  20. One thing is for sure, how would Brady have performed given the OL that the Vikings had last year? He would be running for his life as well.

Brady has had good OL pretection all these years. That elevated his game and reputation. Brady can’t handle pressure. The Giants proved that in that Super Bowl a few years back. Brady is good, but I cannot believe he is the best ever.

This year, let’s see how Teddy does now that the OL is better.

Teddy is not a Tom Brady, but this year we will see how good Teddy really is. And it won’t make any difference how much air is in the ball. Teddy will be fine.

  21. Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.

    Paraphrase as you wish

  22. “Great at those mediocre passes!” Rumor has it Peterson’s offseason conditioning program will focus on upgrading his vocabulary.

  23. Adrian Peterson is a desperate, washed up RB, He has the intellect of a 4 year old and he beats four years….so.

The Vikings have a college QB, he will never be NFL caliber and that is a fact. Desperate, delusional statement from a player with a goof ball fan base.

    The Vikings have ZERO Championships.

    55 years of continued failure.

    ZERO.

Did AP catch Teddy destroying evidence?
    ============================
This is the exact quote from Wells regarding Tom’s phone: “Keep the phone” Wells told Tom and his agent. He also said “I don’t think it undermines in any way the conclusions of the report”. Besides per the CBA he wasn’t obligated to hand it over.
So exactly what evidence did Tom destroy?

  26. patsxsaintsfan says:

i like teddy as much as the next guy but has he even had a game winning drive?

4 of them (should have been 5.. thanks Blair Walsh). Not bad for a QB with a little over a year and a half worth of games. Especially when considered to a certain QB that’s widely mistaken for one of the best in the league who has 14 over his 10 year career.

  27. Our amazing PFT commenters are putting their best foot forward again today.

He didn’t compare Teddy’s talent or achievements to Tom’s – he compared his style of play.

If you don’t understand that from his comments, it says more about you than him.

  28. You have to respect Petersen’s personal drive to always be his best (at least on the football field) and this sometimes predisposes him to make grandiose statements but this… this… should make team physicians profoundly concerned about his cognitive function.

  29. Codythao – just cause you are delusional doesn’t make you a “better” vikings fan. I love my queens on sunday, but this is one of the more asinine comments ever uttered by a man that makes plenty. It just makes the rest of us rational – for once the pack trolls are justified… other than the same old boring hands this or superbowl that regurgitation.

Let’s have one good season (rookie season was promising, not “good”, and last year was ugly) before bring up brady and teddy in the same sentence.

  30. The comparison is unfair to Teddy who is 16 yrs younger than Brady and has yet to prove himself a HOF QB. Before commenting positive or negative let’s see how he plays with a ramped up O Line and the addition of Treadwell. Three things none of can dispute is that Teddy has a positive attitude, is a super hard worker, and is a great leader–good foundational stuff for an NFL player and a worker in general.

  33. Actually a strange lack of packer trolls on this one. Doesn’t stop the MN guys from trolling us but kudos to the packer guys for leaving this one alone. Guess it was just too easy.

Does anyone else think it is hilarious that AP obviously doesn’t know what mediocre means?

  34. Bridgewater is one of the most overrated young QB in the NFL. He posts terrible stats and can’t throw deep to save his life, yet there is hype around the guy for whatever reason.

Compare that to Andy Dalton, who has been mocked since he was drafted, with folks even questioning if a red-head could be a successful QB (no one has asked that about Carson Wentz). All he’s done is win and post great numbers, yet the media is still very dismissive of him.

  35. It’s always nice to watch you purples shoot yourselves, and your beloveds, right in the collective foot. You realize, there are now NO more excuses for Theodore OR the Zim-Zam man, right?

    – Year 3 means he is no longer “young” Theodore nor is Zim-Zam a “new” coach.

    – The O-line is all better now. Purple Jesus says so and, he being one of the brighter shades of purple, if he says it it must be true and correct.

    – They drafted the greatest wide receiver since Don Hutson, Diggs has another year under his belt, CJ is all healed up, bla ba bla.

I hope you enjoyed your once-a-decade blip on the radar screen of success. By the end of the year, you’ll be fighting over whether it’s Theodore’s fault or the fault of the Zim-Zam man. It will be Ponder vs Frazier and T-Jack vs Childress all over again.

  36. First comment of the thread was spot on:

Yo Adrian, to make a statement like that somebody must have beat you with a switch.

CTE must be setting in for Adrian, or he was very, very drunk when he made the comment.

My grandmother who has been dead for 20 years could command the offense and play better than Teddy.

Yo Adrian, time for you to retire.

  37. C’mon Pat’s fans, it’s a fine compliment to a young player, why treat it like an insult? Are you all really that insecure that comparing and encouraging a young player with your HOF QB raises hackles?

    -GoDenBroncos

  38. Why would Peterson want his QB to be a cheater ?

Teddy won’t be able to get away with it like Tom does unless Teddy’s Jersey sales go up.

  39. Maybe AP was just trying to give Teddy some confidence!

My girlfriend says I remind her of Channing Tatum!

I’m sure Teddy and I are in the same boat… We’re not believing the comparisons but we appreciate the effort in trying to boost our confidence.

  40. “He reminds me of a Tom Brady because Tom Brady is great at those mediocre passes,” Peterson said”

Yea, I agree, TB does throw a lot of mediocre passes.

English as a second language much Adrian?!?

Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski say hello. Also, Brady had the league leading rusher in Corey Dillon is 2004. People really need to stop tearing down Brady’s teammates to make Brady look better. He’s played on some fabulous teams.

  42. It is fair to assume that the people hating on the Patriots and Brady believe that Roger Goodell is right. That right there tells you all you will ever need to know about them.

  43. I will grant you that Peterson has never been invited to a Mensa meeting but someone inside the Viking’s organization either needs to buy him a muzzle or beg him to stop doing media interviews because he has gone from absurd (Viking’s winning the Superbowl) to just plain crazy (Teddy reminds me of Tom Brady). Delusional doesn’t quite describe Peterson’s mental state, its beyond that now.

If my team hasn’t been to a Superbowl in 30 years and lost the only 4 that my team appeared in, I would shoot for winning a playoff game first before I went out on a limb like this.

    ================

Brady hasn’t always had good OL line protection. In more seasons than not he has made his line look better than it was by reading D’s and getting the ball out quickly. When they reached the point last season when they lost too many weapons and the O-line had one starter left (and he was playing out of position) Brady was not ‘running for his life’ he was taking a beating or throwing it away when there was nothing there. The Giants schemed their pressure very well and disrupted the middle forcing Brady off his spot and taking away his preference to step up. No QB handles that type of pressure well but it is particularly effective against a less mobile one.

    ————————————-
Please state where he lied. He said he reminds him of TB because of the mediocre (short to intermediate) passes. That’s all. Nothing more and nothing less. Try reading the article before posting stupid crap.

  46. How would Peterson know anything about what it takes to win a Super Bowl. Comparing Bridgewater to Brady is moronic. Also, passes they win games aren’t mediocre, they are perfect.

  47. Young QBs do get better with time. Teddy is still very young. One thing Teddy has that Brady never had is a great defense. Bridgewater won’t have to be as good as Brady to win a super bowl. And that’s good, because Teddy, so far, doesn’t remind me of Tommy. And Adrian, so far, doesn’t remind me of Einstein.

  48. “with me not back there really kind of being a load on his shoulders ”

“Tom Brady is great at those mediocre passes”

    ///////////////////////////////////

Packer trolls? Maybe you haven’t noticed, but expressions of incredulousness are arriving from all over the world.

  51. Teddy being compared to Tommy? Gimme a break! He’s not even as good as the QB chosen right after him (Carr), let alone a 4-time SB winner. Put down the bong, AP!

If Vikes fans aren’t already questioning why Spielman traded up to get 2-gloves over Carr, they will after this season when Carr goes to another Pro Bowl while Teddy ponders again why he has less TDs than games played. He’s a poor man’s Alex Smith, nothing more (and a QB chosen before a certain future HOFer to the eternal regret of Niner fans, and I hope this turns out the same way as a Raider fan)…

  52. His third year in, that’s a moment when a young guy really just comes to himself,” Peterson said on Friday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio.

This child-beater attended Oklahoma University…and that’s his lead line? No one “comes to them self “, they might come into their own, etc, but AP should be quiet and run the ball.

Another 8-8 Vikings season with multiple Bud Grant accolades. AP indeed.

  53. It is so funny to see all of the effort Brady, Peterson, and Bridgewwater haters work themselves up in their normal drug induced frenzies while understanding their lives will never compare to those who compete at the highest levels.

  54. Don’t put pressure on the kid! Comparing a kid who should be a decent QB in the NFL to the man who all intelligent football fans in existence call the greatest QB of all time….that’s awfully high bar to reach!

    🙂

  55. Notice he didn’t compare TB to Aaron Rodgers, considered by all the best QB in the game today?

Oh I guess that makes sense though. Aaron throws downfield, not check downs, and he also doesn’t wear gloves in December. Or September. Or in mini camp.

No that comparison would have been man vs. boy.

  56. Young QBs do get better with time. Teddy is still very young. One thing Teddy has that Brady never had is a great defense.
    ————–
Yes. Just like Christian Ponder got better with time, right?

And ???? Brady never had a great defense? Are you kidding me? His defenses are almost always in the Top 10. Better than the Vikings defense AND that is literally what Bill Belicheck is known most for.

  57. Peterson was serious?
    I thought he was kidding!
I thought it was a joke!
I even wrote it down in my diary, “Adrian had a very funny joke today.”
I laughed at it later that night.

  58. I think what he’s saying is Teddy also does a nice job with his hand-offs.

Probably because he never has to worry about the qb’s fingernail scratching him during the exchange. Because not sure if you knew this but the Viking QB wears gloves all the time.

Which is also why it’s said he rarely drops his fork in the Viking’s cafeteria.

  59. What??? I hate the Patriots but Tom Brady exploits defenses and still has a pretty big long ball when needed even after 15 years.

Teddy B looks shook in big moments and is constantly checking down. He isn’t even at Alex Smith’s level yet.

Adrian Peterson is saying some absurd things lately.

  60. Texas ed-u-ma-kay-shun say what? hahahha Tom Brady gets it done with 5 foot 8 white guys named edleman/woodhead. granted the afc east has sucked for 15 years (besides the Pats of course) I can only imagine how unstoppable they would have been with all-day running wild

I believe Rogers never had a 4th quarter comeback till last year. Those 14 obviously came in the games he snuck his balloon footballs past the ever vigilant NFL referees. Tell me again how a guy walked past at least 7 referees with a huge bag of game balls in a game they had been told to pay close attention to?
Why no one wrote down pregame psi? Why the refs best recollection is only refuted when he claims over and over to have used the gauge that would have virtually proved nothing illegal happened? Two words——SET UP. Two dopey federal judges even agreed that Goodell has the right to do whatever he wants and hater’s a trolls think that’s a good thing. Must have attended the same classes as Peterson.

As opposed to Vikings’ fans, who actually read the articles and then post stupid crap.

  63. Teddy Bridgewater is not even on the same planet as Tom Brady. In fact, he couldn’t carry Aaron Rodgers’ water bucket, either.
Bridgewater is a nice kid and it’s good to see the Vikings are finally developing a young QB who looks like he might have a future for a change, even for a Packers fan like me.
But Teddy still has a long way to go. After all, it was not too many years ago when Sports Illustrated did an article on Daunte Culpepper and had guys like former Vikes HC Dennis Green calling him the greatest thing ever to hit the NFL. How’d that work out, Vikings fans?

  64. Tom Brady won the Super Bowl in his third year as a starter. So did Aaron Rodgers. I’m sure there have been others that have and others that will. Theodore won’t.

  65. If will be so interesting to watch Packer fans and their arrogance once they no longer have back-to-back QBs as their safety blanket that disguises one crappy, crappy team.

  66. That’s funny that Teddy’s had four game-winning drives. Why not give credit to the line? Or long snapper? Vikes’ game winning drives are due to AP, and NOT TB. Don’t delude yourself. Quick, name Rosgers’ starting RB in ’08. No? How about ’10? ’12?

Tinyhands is mediocre at best despite having a top 5 RB of all time at his disposal. And don’t give me the stat of ASAP sitting out a year. I get it. And how did Ted do that year?

  67. Yeah, ok. Getting Jordy back, a TE with bad hands and a few rookies will fix all the other issues with green bay, yeah that’s as dumb as thinking bridgewater will be the next tom brady.

Bridgewater or whoever will be in good shape when Mike Zimmer hires Mike McCarthy to be offensive coordinator in a few short years after he’s fired.

Tom Brady is an actual QB though, where as Rodgers is just inflated by stats. He was terrible last year without Jordy.

  68. If will be so interesting to watch Packer fans and their arrogance once they no longer have back-to-back QBs as their safety blanket that disguises one crappy, crappy team.
    ————–
Yes. Having a QB is the single most important thing for ANY team to have sustained success. You’re really learning this NFL game pretty well!

Now quick tell me why the Vikings aren’t in the playoffs almost every year like the Packers or have never won a Super Bowl in over 55 years? Yep. You got it. Having a legit NFL QB.

Congrats. You’re really coming into your own as a casual NFL fan.

  71. Tom Brady is an actual QB though, where as Rodgers is just inflated by stats. He was terrible last year without Jordy.
    ————
I don’t think I would say his season was terrible. Only to his standards. It would have been a dream season and one never attainable by Teddy B.

And Rodgers down season was not just due to Jordy. The entire WR core was injured and nobody was able to get open. That’s why you literally heard the analysts talking about it on every single game.

Jordy was a blow, but then Adams started with a bad ankle and tried to play on it and wasn’t up to the challenge of also elevating his game in his 2nd year. Cobb played with a badly injured shoulder, so there were routes he could not run to limit the danger to that. Montgomery, the 4th WR injured and out for the year. And James Jones, as much of a gamer as he is….he is slower than a turtle. He also had no TE that could stretch the field at all. And an out of shape Lacy who wasn’t the same as his first 2 years.

But keep believing what you want to. Vikings fans and delusions go hand in hand.

  72. When a team reaches a level where the Patriots and Packers have been, it is a sad thing, just to watch their fans struggle with the fact that they aren’t good any more. The only thing they can do is post childish remarks.
It is ok, you will get over it, you can always blow your nose on that worthless Stock of yours.
It is Pitiful yet exhilarating to watch. It is like the last 10 years of Larry Holmes life.. Still talking big, but hitting the mat earlier in every fight!

  73. I love my Vikings, I love Teddy and I love AP. Nothing any of you say will ever change that. I am not quite sure why so many of you self proclaimed geniuses have a problem with this article. But since you don’t seem to know the meaning of the word, here you go, Mediocre: ordinary or average. What’s the problem?? AP was comparing styles. That’s it. Tom Brady is a great QB with a certain style that AP sees in Teddy. What is the wrong with that? Everyone is so quick to jump on every word this man says like it is the worst thing in the world. Give me, him and everyone else a break already.

The Vikings haven’t reached a level where the Packers, Patriots, and Larry Holmes have been.

The Vikings have been hitting the mat early as well- a playoff record 28 losses.

The Vikings haven’t won a playoff game in 7 years.

So it’s adorable when a Viking fan comes to tell everyone what the decline of a champion is like, when his team has never even seen one.

I guess it’s true. Those who can’t do, teach.

But maybe you can immortalize your post in your own 360.00 brick. You’ll have to edit it a bit. I think 360.00 only gets you 4 or 5 words. But hurry so you can get your unique brick, just like everyone else’s. Only about 3000 exist.

  75. zimmer already said he believes bridgewater is going to win multiple superbowls; that is three or more, but i think he will only get three, and not four or five. So AP will be a three time SB champ too. I wonder how many SB MVPs they will each have. Will Blair Walsh be the kicker on all three world champion teams?

  76. He’s just like Tom. They are both carbon-based life forms, with 2 ears, 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth. And they both speak English.

Brady is a frail old Man and Rodgers is nothing without a 100% jordy nelson. Sorry to have to point out the facts of this coming season to you. Reality sucks.

Last I checked both teams were in the playoffs for the last 7 years. And they even won a playoff game in 2015.

It’s sad to see Vikings fans come to the realization that last year was the best they will ever see.

  79. Adrian, to compare Teddy Bridgewater to any NFL 2nd tier QB he has to be able to throw 30 yards down field..

I will concede poor Teddy has had to deal with the elements since he has not been able to play in the indoor arena football league for the last two years.

Thankfully this will all change this year as you clowns get back to playing indoor football league again and then Teddy will maybe 50/50 chance be able to deliver the might 30 yard bomb on target but well see.

  80. Brady throws nothing but short- to medium-range passes and he’s done very well for himself that way. I also noticed against the Broncos last year that Brady looked like a terrible quarterback because of all the pressure he was under. Give Teddy some time back there and some more years of experience and I think he’ll be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. If you automatically think that’s impossible, you know nothing about football.

  81. Love how everyone claims to hate Brady yet he is the one QB who every young QB wants to be and every player/fan/owner thinks they’ve got the next Brady. Obviously he’s the Goat and everyone knows it.

  82. I think Adrian Peterson must be suffering from multiple severe concussions. And not just because he savagely beats kids.

  83. No complains here. At least AP’s not telling the press he wants to play for Dallas or being arrested for child abuse. Love the way he runs. He’s pulled the Vikings out of more jams than anyone not named Fran Tarkenton. I hate when he talks.

He’s a mega-rich superstar with a smoking hot wife and the best game in the NFL. He doesn’t care what you think. Bridgewater like Brady? I’ll take that.

  84. Yes. Just like Christian Ponder got better with time, right?

And ???? Brady never had a great defense? Are you kidding me? His defenses are almost always in the Top 10. Better than the Vikings defense AND that is literally what Bill Belicheck is known most for
    *************************************
That’s actually a pretty good comparison, Ponder and Bridgewater. Both will get better with time, and neither is ever going to be good enough to win, unless they have a super defense. My point is that the Vikings are putting together a super defense. And I know Belichick was the defensive coordinator on those Lawrence Taylor NY Giants super bowl winning defenses. That didn’t take a genius. But Belichick was never a winning head coach until his quarterback (Drew Bledsoe) got hurt, and he was forced to put in Tom Brady. From then on, Brady bailed out the Patriots’ defense time and time again. Belichick, although a good coach, had never been a winning coach until Brady came along. In fact, I don’t think Belichick has ever won a playoff game without Tom Brady as his QB. I don’t mean to pick on Belichick. There are a lot of HOF coaches who you can say the same thing about.

  85. There’s a comparison. Bridgewater has a higher completion rate and similar yards to Brady’s first two full years. He does have less TDs though.

BB won a playoff game when he was the head coach of the Browns

The last time the Briens made the playoffs or won a playoff game BB was the head coach.

Bill Walsh was 8-24 before he got Montana

  87. And furthermore, over the last 5 years the air yards per attempt averages about 7th for Tom Brady.

    Bridgewater averages 23.5 ranking.

My apologies. I know you were just trying to prop up Teddy and hope you could use Tom Brady as a great example of why Teddy will be successful with his checkdown noodle arm, but like most things Vikings fans throw out, the facts are against you.

Nice attempt…….BUT your are completely forgetting that the comp% numbers have gone up a lot since Brady’s first 2 years due to the NFL rule changes when it comes to passing, so that is a completely invalid comparison. Sorry!

They drafted another HOF QB when 23 teams including the Vikings twice decided to pass on Rodgers when they already had a HOF QB that played another 6 years in the NFL.

In 2014, Pro Football Focus calculated that Teddy Bridgewater was under pressure on 39.9% of his pass attempts (third-most in the NFL), and that number actually got worse in 2015, jumping to a whopping 46.7% of his dropbacks, the highest number in the league by far. Yet despite his constant need to be on the run for his health and safety, Bridgewater has been one of the NFL’s most accurate quarterbacks of the past two seasons. In 2014, PFF graded his accuracy percentage at 77.3%, the third-highest percentage in the league. Then, despite being under even more pressure in 2015, his accuracy percentage increased, jumping to an NFL-leading 79.3%. In fact, Teddy scored his best passing grades on throws between 10-19 yards, and broke even on throws over 20 yards.

As long as we’re talking about PFF, they had the Vikings offensive line ranked 16th in pass protection, right in the middle of the league. When Teddy gets sacked, it’s because he holds the ball too long or because of his sloooowwww release.

But aside from the numbers, Teddy did very little to help his team win last year. It was all AP and the defense. Sure, you can win a Super Bowl with a below average QB, but it seems to happen that way once every 15 years.

What would be cool is if the Vikings fans quit yapping and just watched to see how Bridgewater develops this year and how the team does. Viking threads don’t get a lot of posts because the team is polarizing or popular- it’s because of how infantile Vikings’ fans are, and the fact that they make themselves easy targets for ridicule, in a variety of ways.

I guess you’ve never watched the Patriots play. Brady does what ever it takes to win. If it’s short passes because that’s the talent in the line up then it’s fine. But Brasy can still sling it, just like he did in 2007, when needed. As for the Broncos, look what they did to Cam. At least Brady found a way to move the ball at the end and almost tied it with a two point conversion. Manning couldn’t do anything at that point in the game. The Patriots almost pulled that one out on the road in a place where Brasy always stinks. The Broncos were just good.

Teddy should already be one of the best in the NFL is that is his destiny. That’s what happens to the great ones. It doesn’t take 4 years to see it.

  111. Do you understand what a run-first offense is?

The strange logic was thinking Aaron Rodgers makes his receivers. How that work for ya?
    ———–
A run first offense doesn’t mean the QB has to be inaccurate when he throws the deep ball or any ball beyond 5 yards.

While Rodgers does make his receivers, it makes things a bit more difficult when the top guys in the lineup are literally the bottom guy on the depth chart, a guy called up from the practice squad, a dude with a bum shoulder and an old and slow James Jones with a hammy injury.

Granted……Rodger’s down season is still an unattainable dream for a QB like Teddy.

    3800 yards, 32 TD’s and only 8 INT’s and a playoff win.

Let me know when Teddy Does anything close. He won’t. Ever. And Nelson was so far ahead in his rehab that he was even feeling like he could have played in the playoffs given how far he has been. 31 is hardly old for a WR that has major speed. It’s much more of a problem for a slow WR like Turdwell when they get older and can’t afford to lose a step.

All of those QB’s that you mentioned are players that are instrumental to their teams sucess and if they haven’t won Super Bowls, have at least won playoff games.

Outside of being a QB, Teddy Bridgewater has absolutely zero in common with those players. Maybe he’ll end up being good. He’s not close yet.

He’s not really much of a leader- he may be respected, but he doesn’t exactly carry the Vikings. The leadership is on the defensive side. Vikings’ fans like to pretend otherwise.

  118. Viking fans……go back and read Frank Booth. He’s doing you a favor. Heed his advice.

  119. Hmmmmm… never would I ever heed that advice. Teddy has show more poise and leadership in his short time under center than mr. booth’s qb has in ALL the time he’s been with the bears.

    ===================================
Bridgewater is a winner like Kyle Orton was for the Bears, who was 10-5 in his rookie season while throwing 9 TD passes and 13 INTs, but had a great defense

Orton was 21-12 in his first 33 games, courtesy of a ball-hawking defense and great special teams. An average QB in the league could have done the same thing.

    ==================================
In the 2 years since Teddy has QB’d the Vikings, Cutler has thrown 49 TD passes (29 INT’s), had a 65% completion %, and a 90 rating, and averaged about 248 yards per game. Unfortunately, the Bears defense has been about 25th best in the league.

Mr. Poise, Teddy Bridgewater, averages about 35 yards less per game, has 8 less INT’s in that time, and 21 less TD’s. Roughly the same rating and accuracy as Cutler, but with Cutler throwing more passes.

The difference is that Teddy Bridgewater has better defenses on his side.

So there’s not a whole lot of difference, with the biggest trade-off being Cutler’s 8 more INT’s vs. 21 more TD passes.

But what good is Teddy’s “leadership” when he can’t be counted on to get his team into the end zone. The reality is that his inability to get the Vikings into the end zone was why the Vikings lost their playoff game, and he continuously left the game on his kicker’s leg rather than getting his team into the end zone.

Then again, Mr. Poise only threw 4 TD’s against winning teams last year (1 in 4 different games), so expectations should have been low.

Even the pathetic Bears have won a Super Bowl, as well as several NFL Championships, and it looks like they are building something good for the future; but unlike Vikings’ fans, I’ll wait and see what happens before shooting my mouth off.

If it weren’t for the pathetic Bears and George Halas, the Vikings wouldn’t have an NFL to play in, and Halas was instrumental in getting the Vikings into the league to ride on the coattails of teams like the Bears, Packers, and Giants, who did the heavy lifting in the formative years of the league.

And as far as football knowledge goes, Linda Case is a terrific self-published author, who probably couldn’t tell the difference between a football and a puck.

  124. I like Teddy as a QB.

But Tom’s 22 playoff victories are greater than the following teams have in their ENTIRE HISTORY:

    Bears
    Browns
    Ravens

    Chiefs
    Panthers
    Saints
    Falcons
    Lions
    Cardinals
    Buccaneers

With more success in the playoffs than so many teams have in their entire existence, its no wonder so many butt hurt insecure fans hate on Brady. But seriously, why hate on greatness? It only shows how jealous and small minded you are. Not good qualities at all.

No they haven’t been very good the last few years. But the rivalry with the Packers still exists, and somewhat with the Lions. The Bears/Packers rivalry isn’t anything like it used to be in the 80’s, and the rivalries are a bigger thing for the fans than the teams themselves these days.

But while you’re telling me that the Bears haven’t been anyone’s rival in years, keep in mind that since 2010, the Bears have an overall better record than the Vikings and more wins by 6 games.

Separate points. There was nothing infantile about your post.

I’m not a Packer fan, but Rodgers is actually in his prime as far as QB’s go. He still threw over 30 TD passes last year, while Teddy has yet to throw 15. There are no indications at this point that Teddy Bridgewater is special, and his first 2 years have shown him to be merely serviceable.

  132. Some of you take so many things out of context. AP said Teddy was great at throwing mediocre passes like Tom Brady, not is comparable to Tom Brady.

Tom Brady after 20 games probably has similar numbers to Teddy. The team was built with a strong D and at that time Brady was a game manager, maybe the Vikes can win with that approach.

The comment-ers on this site really make this site hard to visit. Need to find a new one for football news.

  133. “Brady has had good OL pretection all these years. That elevated his game and reputation. Brady can’t handle pressure.”

Somebody apparently didn’t watch the AFC Championship game.

Brady doesn’t throw many mediocre passes. Teddy does.

Brady’s numbers were not similar to Teddy’s. In his first 2 seasons he threw 46 TD’s and had way more yards passing. And what you are also forgetting is that the passing rules have changed dramatically which has made all passing statistics go up pretty significantly since Brady’s first 2 years. Sorry, but that would not even be close to a valid comparison.

  135. Have you watched Tom Brady, he made his living hitting smaller receivers in short to medium routes and his TE up the seam. Except the years he had Moss.

Nobody is expecting Bridgewater to be Brady but if he can be an above average QB that would be fine with us. He has a winning record through 20 games, Vikings fan will be fine to see where it will take us and if we can build on last year.

  136. So happy to see the people who don’t think the Vikings are their “rivals” continue to post! It is quite amusing , really it is. Yes, yes, 55 years ago we were “foisted” upon all of you in the North. Seriously? Get over it. 55 years!! You would think you would have gotten used to us by now, right? There are much younger teams in the NFL and I don’t hear their divisions complaining. Anywho…. Thanks again to the others who actually read the piece and didn’t take the words out of context. I think Vikings fans do appreciate your comments. As for the trolls who like to make up names and say the same thing over and over again, jeez, at least come up with something original, huh?

  137. The modern era of the NFL began in 1960,not 1970.

And the changes really began in 1966, not 1970, when the merger was worked out, a common draft was put into place in 1967, and the AFL-NFL championships started in 1966.

And just as major changes occurred from the inception of the league to 1970, their have been major changes from 1970 through now. If you think the league is the same as it was in 1970, you clearly know little about the NFL.

The one constant? The Vikings’ lack of Super Bowl victories.

Also, you’re attempts to discount early NFL history (because your team wasn’t part of it) are fruitless. The Vikings exist because George Halas of the Bears backed Max Winter and the Vikings’ entry into the league, and the changes that have occurred, from a few guys having the stones to start something new to what the league is today matter, even if your favorite team rode in on someone else’s accomplishments- which is what all Minnesota teams have done.

  138. The cheese state sure seems scared of the defending NFC North Champions. Reminder: NFC North Champs. I’ll be able to copy/paste this post a year from now.

  139. Seems as though mr. cabbage has to keep telling all of us how important his packers and mr. booth’s bears are. So maybe he should re-read his own words, you know, the repetitive ones. You realize there is medication for that, don’t you? Sane people understand that.

  140. As a Vikings fan I myself do not know what AD is talking about. Not sure why he would bring Tom Brady into a conversation about Teddy. Other than to try to boost Teddy up a bit. Apples and oranges AD.

  141. Teddy has had a few decent seasons, but the Brady comparison has yet to be seen. As a football fan I think he will help lift the Vikings and is a QB to build around, however he has yet to do anything memorable. Many of the greatest QB’s have a few growing years so we will find out who Teddy is in the next few seasons. BTW, thanks to the vikings for the stadium upgrade, next time I see a Pack vs Viks game in Minn I wont feel like I am about to tumble down a mountain of seats (Metrodome), place felt like a deathtrap. Lets get this season rolling!!!

Can someone drug test AP ASAP

I don’t think it’s drugs, more like clear evidence of “CTE” !!!
