Saints become Tony Steward’s third team in less than a month

It’s been an eventful offseason for linebacker Tony Steward.

Steward was a member of the Bills through April, but the 2015 sixth-round pick was waived in mid-April. He signed with the Patriots a few days later and spent nearly a month with New England before again being given his walking papers. On Monday, the Saints announced that they are Steward’s third employers in less than a month.

The team signed Steward as part of a post-rookie minicamp roster shuffling that also saw them sign tackle Tyrus Thompson and wide receiver Jake Lampman. Steward played seven games for the Bills and had two tackles before ending the season on injured reserve.

The Saints haven’t announced the signing of cornerback Jimmy Pruitt, although his agent said he agreed to a deal with the team. According to multiple reports, former Air Force long snapper Garrett Griffin has also signed with the team, although he needs approval to play due to his ongoing military commitment.

Quarterback Griffin Neal, safety Mike Caputo and wide receiver Shane Wynn were dropped from the roster.

  1. Tony and Stephone Anthony Saints #1 pick at lb last year were teammates/lb’s at Clemson.

Looks like Stephone did him a solid.

  2. So, he was with the Patriots just long enough for them to pick his brain and copy his old playbook. Now to the Saints for the same thing on the Pats. Thankfully, none of the other teams practice this……Oh, wait….industrial espionage….LOL

Maybe he’s thinking that he’ll be good enough to last the next two seasons in New Orleans (they play the Pats in 2017) which is highly doubtful.
