Report: Adrian Peterson to attend Vikings OTAs

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has said on multiple recent occasions that the demands of training camp ultimately could bring about the end to his career. At least for 2016, he doesn’t have the same attitude about Organized Team Activities.

Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Peterson will attend OTAs this week.

Obviously, non-contact offseason workouts are less strenuous than training-camp practices, and the overall schedule isn’t nearly as demanding as training camp.

“I think it’s just going away and being away from your family for a good period of time and it’s just the grind,” Peterson told PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio earlier this month. “It’s nothing like it was when I first came into the league, so I thank God for that. Just the mental grind, you know? Getting up early for the workouts and then the meetings. After the first practice you get a little short break to eat and a little time to rejuvenate then you’re right back in meetings and then you got another practice. You’re doing that every day. So after ten years of it I can sit here and say I’m getting kind of tired of it.”

For now, Peterson remains all in for training camp and, for at least 2016, OTAs. Which could give the Vikings a better chance to make good on Peterson’s belief that the Vikings can win it all in 2016.

  1. This is good news for his children, or least his children that he has taken the time to actually meet. I think he has more out of wedlock children than he has fumbles in playoff games but not by that wide of a margin.

  2. That’s a true competitor right there. Most RBs to lead the NFL in rushing would feel they’ve earned a break or don’t need to improve anything, its obvious Adrian felt he got a “late start” last season despite his final season totals, and he’s doing everything he can to play like an MVP from Week 1.

  3. Peterson keeps giving more and more clues that he is reaching the end of his career and is trying to make a hard push at a championship before he retires. I wouldn’t be at all surprised at him making a power play to be traded if the Vikings fall well short of their potential this season.

  4. On the one hand, a bit surprising, but on the other hand, maybe its a sign that Peterson is prepared to take on more of a leadership role.

  5. The only good think about Goodell turning the NFL into a flag football league is that maybe our front 7 will actually have a chance to tackle this guy. AJ Hawk was lucky enough to get out and BJ Raji even retired because he was tired of getting trucked.

  6. still the best way to retain your job in the NFL: cut a 4 year old’s scrotum.

  7. Given he wants to get more involved in the passing game, I imagine he wants to be on the field in OTAs when those plays are installed. I’d be satisfied if he just practiced holding on to the damn ball.

    Eddie Lazy should take note.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Did you perhaps mean Eddie Lacy? The guy that knocked Housewife Harry out for several weeks last year after you purples hopped up and down for a week telling us how she was going to “destroy” Lacy and “blow up” Aaron Rodgers? You purples begged for someone to get hurt and someone did. Funny how Karma works.
    I bet she cowers now, just like Blanton has since Lacy trucked him. Shoot, they might even hurt each other trying to get away from Lacy.
  9. He darn well better be at OTAs. The offense was horse crap last year because he couldn’t play in it the way it was designed. He promised he was going to work on the things he was bad at this offseason and that means being here for every single practice. I still don’t believe he’ll be able to change but at least he’s giving the appearance of trying.
    _______
    Given that he’s scheduled to make $18 million in 2017, I don’t see a lot of teams lining up to trade for him. His two options are to take a massive pay cut to stay with the Vikings or to be released and take a massive pay cut to play for someone else.
  11. Good to see his leadership! Hope to see another MVP.
    Only ones to post are the haters, look how pathetic they are; probably lacked discipline as kids. lol
  12. So the team’s highest paid player wants to do the least amount of work. Great leader, there.
  13. Wow, a lot of post from jealous Packer fans.
    This kind of hate is expected from them when you have the best RB in the game playing for the best team in the NFC North.
    Ah well, moving on.
    Ah well, moving on to bigger and better things.
  15. They need to be like the program. If anyone else comes back with ball besides AD he does catching drills for 3 hrs followed by blocking drills. Loss to Den AD missing block. Loss to AZ AD missing several blocks. Loss to Sea AD not catching out of the backfield well and fumbling. Also right before the field goal attempt he had a open running lane to the end zone and cut back inexplicably like he’s prone to do and got nowhere. For winning the rushing title he played below his standards, except for the fumbling. His YAC was awful. He still can’t catch.
  16. that’s cool, its Mike Zimmers team now anyway so its nice of him to show up for OTAs that aren’t mandatory.
    hey packer fans, you barely were in two games vs Detroit last year and should’ve been swept by them, just remember that because we dominated them easily… but yeah, Jordy will fix everything. we dominated the Bears at home, how’d you guys do…
  17. He needs the extra time to try to figure where the heck the holes are going to open up, now that his O-Line can’t chop block anymore.
    All I can say is “scummy” talking about players getting hurt. Why don’t the Cheesers wish for something novel: that all the teams in the division stay healthy and injury-free so we can have a really good and competitive season.
    And he’s known as “Harry the Hitman”. Housewife Hairy is Clay Matthews. Jus thought I’d clarify for you.
  19. I’m a Vikings fan have loved watching AD run over the years how about practicing holding on to the Ball at OTAs and Training Camp love his effort but the fumbles have to end if were going to contend for the Title.
  20. He and Teddy need as much time together as possible. At some point, this has to become Teddy’s offense…for better or worse. Time for AP to be a complimentary piece and not a contradictory one.
    Guessing the flooding has caused National Adrian Peterson day to be cancelled in Palestine Texas this year…
    How grandiose…you feel as if something celebrated only in Palestine, Texas is somehow National. It should be expected though…I mean you guys think that the NFL is an international competition..or “world championship”. I understand that leaving the state can be scary, but it doesn’t quite make you a world traveller.
  22. I’m still waiting for the NFL punishment of this admitted child abuser for his admission to “smoking a little weed” and violating the condition of his bond.
    how is this guy allowed to play in the NFL? Unbelievable.
    Maybe cause he’s talented????
  24. Honestly, I don’t know how him participating in OTAs will help much. Why? Because he started losing steam towards the end of the season last year so the more he participates early, the less likely he keeps a full head of steam throughout the entire season.
    My hope is McKinnon gets his share of opportunities this year to give AP a rest. I know he goes against all odds when it comes to his physicality. However, age will take a toll and it showed last year towards the end of the season and the playoffs.
  25. More like…Adrian Peterson BEAT OTA’s. GET IT GUYS!? BEAT OTA’s. ..as in beat them with a stick!
    More like….CLEAR THE TREES EVERYONE! PETERSON IS GONNA BEAT YOUR KIDS!….
    Or maybe he can BEAT the left side of the field goal post so Blair doesn’t….WIDE LEFT. HEY GUYS! LACES OUT!
    GET IT GUYS??!?!?
    HEY GUYS! PRACTICE WITH AIR CONDITIONING SO SOMEONE DOESN’T DIE OF A HEAT STROKE AGIAN…RIGHT???
    I’m creative.
    well….at least I got the Packer fans laughing.
