Vikings defensive tackle B.J. Dubose tears ACL in OTA

On-field practices during OTAs are supposed to be non-contact, but they’re never non-risk.

According to Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Vikings defensive tackle B.J. Dubose suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday’s workout, and is expected to miss the entire season.

The injury happened during an 11-on-11 drill.

A sixth-round pick last year from Louisville, he spent most of last year on the practice squad, but was promoted to the 53-man roster prior to the playoff loss to Seattle.

  1. Hate to see this for Dubose. He had a challenge to make the roster as it is. Hope he can make a full recovery and be ready for next season.

Weird, another teams fan talking trash on a unfortunate injury post. Keep it classy.

  3. Hate to hear that.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing that this is the excuse when the Packers, not the Vikings, win the division.

    And we’ll all be saying… “who?” >

  4. What’s going on over there in Minnesota? Sounds like they may need to fire their trainer.

    Proper Stretching saves careers.

Actually the latest is that stretching doesn’t make a difference. Also these season ending injuries usually aren’t muscle related.

  6. This is always bad for a reserve player. They don’t have the security in the bank like many of the players above them. It’s made worse by this being the only thing they’ve ever done. Now what? Tough break.

It was a classless post but some of your fellow Vikes fans do kind of bring it on themselves.
Tough break for a bubble guy, hope he recovers well enough to get another shot.

As a licensed and certified athletic trainer, I don’t even know what this means? Are you saying we (AT’s) can prevent ACL tears?

And purplepackerhater is correct, the evidence (research) has shown that stretching does not increase or decrease your chances for a muscle strain or ligament sprain.

  9. First when I saw the name B.J I thought it was the guy from the Packers. I’m like heck no not him, but then it’s the guy from Vikings. I’m like ok no big deal cuz we have plenty. He’s only a back up.

  10. I don’t know the rules here. Can this kid go to games and sit through the practice meetings etc? Is he allowed to work out with the training staff and build his upper body? Maybe he can use this time to get his role in the defense down cold and get some good out of it. I agree these bubble players are in a tough spot and it would be nice if he could get something positive out of this year.

  11. There’s different types of stretching, pre and post warmups. There is evidence indicating light warm ups followed up with stretching before heavy activity does decrease injuries of many varieties.

There’s a reason EVERY athlete in the world stretches before their event and do warm up sprints.

Ever watched the athletes on the Track? They all are apparently dumb and wasting their time? I think not.

  12. This is really unfortunate for him and for the Vikings.

As a Packer fan, I want to see the Vikings at full strength when they crash to the bottom of the NFC North in 2016.

  13. Sorry to say, but I didn’t even know who this guy was. Saying that, I wish him the best. An ACL injury is a real challenge.

We’ve come to expect sentiments like this from Bandwagon fans like you. You don’t even know who is on your team.

    So sad.

  15. It’s shocking how obsessed with the Minnesota Vikings Packer fans are.

Dubose wouldn’t be there if Zimmer and R.S. didn’t like him a lot. Not at this point of development. How many players are still on the team from Leslie Frazier’s tenure? The roster is nearly turned over.

Best of luck young man. Come back better!

And be sure to put that little Toofie under your pillow for the tooth Fairy while you are wishing.

  17. In a DT rich draft the Vikings felt comfortable enough with the guys on the team to pass on that position. The DT position is close to locked down with Floyd, Joseph, Johnson, and Stephen, but hate to see a young, talented, improving player go down, especially to an ACL. Best wishes in rehab, hope you come back stronger.

  18. filthy no bad karma about this rising Vikings team in the NFC. It is more like injuries just happen in football. This is obvious for most football fans to mentally grasp.
