Rams “trying to work things out” regarding Nick Foles

Quarterback Nick Foles became a spare part for the Rams when they drafted Jared Goff with the first overall pick this year and Wednesday brought a report that Foles has responded by staying away from the team’s offseason workouts since the draft.

During a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed that Foles hasn’t been in attendance and said it wasn’t a case of Foles “not wanting to come in and compete” for a job. Fisher called it “more of a mutual thing” as both sides understand that the quarterback’s future isn’t in Los Angeles.

“As it was correctly reported this morning, he has not been here to participate in the offseason program since the draft,” Fisher said. “I’ve had conversations with Nick, we’re on the same page and we’re trying to work things out.”

Presumably the Rams would like to get something in return for Foles rather than just dropping him from the roster. It might take an injury or other unforeseen development to get a team to make such an offer, although it remains to be seen if the Rams will carry Foles on the roster long enough for such a situation to present itself.

  1. Carry him on the roster through camp. There’s no risk and and someone else’s misfortune at QB could create a market for him. There’s also the possibility that someone wants Keenum enough to make a decent offer. Foles would then slot in as the veteran backup for the Rams.

Struggling to see why the Rams WOULDN’T want him at offseason workouts. If they want to move him having it appear that Foles isn’t a team player isn’t going to help and their leverage goes to zero when they make it clear he’s such an afterthought they don’t even care if he shows. Anybody interested is just waiting for his release now.

  3. former pro bowl qb nick foles, fisher and how do you still have a job as a head coach in the nfl

  4. Well Fisher wouldn’t know a good QB from the rear end of a horse anyway. Not that Foles is spectacular but Fisher shouldn’t be a head coach in the NFL either. All hail the 8-8 King!

  5. The Rams are on the hook for most of his salary, so if they can unload him, they save some cap money.
I’d prefer to save 5MM in cap space than hold onto him and hope for a 6th round pick.
Trade him for nothing and save the salary that can be used in the future.

  6. this is a corporate decision… i think if he gets injured, not only is the 6M guaranteed bonus payable but then they would also owe him his 2016 salary of 1.75M.

costs nothing to keep him off the field and see if someone will give them something for him…

The NFL should stage an intervention to keep Fisher from destroying another young Quarterback’s career before it starts. Ridiculous.

Not a Fisher fan but which QB careers has he ruined? Please don’t say Vince Young. He ruined himself plus that was the owners choice of QB. I can’t recall a young QB he has ruined.

  8. Piss on this turd! He’s still in The league? Who cares if he doesn’t show he did nothing for them anyhow except take up considrable cap space. Maybe he isnt there since he did t get the memo they moved to LA?

I’m not a Rams fan. I’m not an Eagles fan. I’m not a Nick Foles fan.

But why would anyone call Nick Foles a “turd”? That’s pretty foul. I haven’t heard of any accusations (let alone convictions) of Nick Foles for beating his wife, girlfriend or children. I haven’t heard of any accusations that he has tried to injure opponents. I haven’t heard of anything remotely justifying calling him a “turd”.
