Rueben Randle excited to be out of “unfortunate situation” with Giants

Eagles wide receiver Rueben Randle’s first offseason with the Eagles hit a bump when he learned that he needed to have his gallbladder removed.

It’s been a little more than two weeks since Randle had that operation and he received clearance for limited work at minicamp this week. He said he expects to be a full participant come training camp, where he’ll bid for snaps as an outside receiver with coach Doug Pederson saying that Randle has “really made an impact” when he’s been able to work this spring.

Randle didn’t have the desired impact during his years with the Giants, which were marked by benchings for late arrivals to meetings and miscommunications with Eli Manning that led to turnovers. Randle insists he “wasn’t really trying to do anything” to anger the Giants while describing himself as “excited to be a part of this” Eagles team.

“Unfortunate situation. Things happen, you’ve got to move on,” Randle said, via Philly.com. “Miscommunication … They didn’t like my demeanor and some things … I was just judged wrong, read wrong. I gotta do better by that, learn from my mistakes … try to move forward here.”

Pederson has suggested recently that Jordan Matthews will continue to operate mainly out of the slot this season, which leaves Nelson Agholor and Chris Givens as Randle’s chief competition for playing time on the outside.

  1. Or hold yourself to higher standards. Anyone who watches the Giants knows this bum wasn’t dependable. Sterling Shepard will have a much greater impact in this offense.

  2. Definition of “unfortunate situation”:

I played poorly, dropped passes, and disappeared at times. I didn’t do well my prove it year.

  3. This guys immaturity and lack of awareness was DEFINITELY evident on the field. Randle has a lot of talent but is held back because he thinks hes on top of the world. If he can get it together, he can be a great wr.

  4. I really couldn’t disagree more with this statement from Rueben Randle: I was just judged wrong, read wrong.

Randle was talented and definitely made some critical plays during his tenure but his ‘demeanor,’ including not finishing his routes and constantly being injured wore thin.

If any fan base is OK with a relaxed demeanor it would be the New York Giants…Eli Manning hardly ever shows excitement.

  5. Unfortunate? It was unfortunate to see Randle catch a pass with no one in front of him and then decide to run out of bounds because someone, a few yards directly behind him, was chasing him.

RR you were terrible, no one misjudged anything, your attitude and desire to grow was evident even my two year old daughter could see it.

Great talent if motivated, could end up being a threat, but I’m sure after 1-2 games you will go back to your ok ways. Eagles fans you may have a great receiver, but he will likely run out of bounds.

  6. You show up late to work and they read you wrong? You are late to mature. Become an adult and start taking responsibility for your shortcomings.

  7. I don’t know what’s better….the fact that he’s gone or the fact that he’s competing to be a starter for the eagles hahahaha….better add another year to the list of years without winning the SB

  8. This underachiever will be out on the street in a couple years blabbing to anyone who will listen about what he could have been if he applied himself.

  9. I kept expecting him to bust out last year, so I kept starting his sorry butt on my fantasy team. Funny how every week is a fresh start in the NFL. I say good riddance to this slacker!

  10. Can’t run routes, shows up late, and disappears from games. Yet you were judged wrong. Sounds like an accurate judgement to me.

  11. if you want to know why Eli had all those picks a few years go it was because Randle was running the wrong routes.

This guy showed flashes of beaing really really good when he was opposite Cruz or Beckum but when those guys were out of the lineup he vanished.

  12. He’s not the first guy we ever saw quit on a route but he may be the first we ever saw quit after receptions with no one in front of him. In spite of a lackadaisical work ethic and a litany of failure he was in a perfect position to redeem himself in a contract year and still spit the bit. To whom much is given much is expected of and he failed those expectations miserably. I usually give guys the benefit of a doubt but Randle removed any doubt at all, the “unfortunate situation” was that he was ever a Giant.

Have you actually watched the Giants games?

Randle has NEVER missed a game in his NFL career..

Yes he gave up on routes, and doesnt have the burst one would hope for.. But to accuse him of “Constantly being injured” is utter nonsense.

Actually he wasnt terrible.. Thats a very big stretch to say.

Was he worthy of a 2nd round pick, NO.

He has averaged 47 catches per year, 5 td’s 661 yards and 14.1 YPC. He has also on fumbled once in 4 years.

Now the negative is his miscommunication’s with ELI lead to a LOT of drives stalling.

He’s a middle of the pack receiver who doesnt have the BURST to be a #1, but has more talent than a #3.

He had 57 catches, 797 yards and 8 td’s.. That’s not exactly “spitting the bit”..

If Sterling Shephard has those numbers this year people will be very happy.

It was more his work ethic and route running that was the issue.
