Eddie Lacy’s girth was a talking point around the Packers for much of the offseason and now he’s got some company among running backs with too much meat on the bone.

Bills coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday that Karlos Williams is “not anywhere close to where he needs to be to play at a high level” and that he will need to focus on getting in better shape before he’ll be doing more than individual drills.

“We’re not going to put a ridiculous weight number on him when he comes back, we’re going to put something that’s obtainable for him,” Ryan said. “What you don’t want to do, you don’t want to have him, all of a sudden he’s going to drop 20 pounds and he comes out here and he gets hurt the first day of training camp; that’s what we’re trying to avoid. So we got to get him to do the right things now.”

Williams, who is listed at 230 pounds, said he didn’t think the target weight was “far off” and explained that his fiancee’s pregnancy was the root cause of his expanding waistline.

“It definitely is a first but I like to eat and then her being pregnant gave me an excuse to eat, so eating anything and everything,” Williams said. “She’d wake up, one or two o’clock, ‘I want a snack.’ Well I’m not going to sit here and watch you eat because I don’t want you to feel bad but it’s back to football. She’s getting back to working out herself so kind of motivating each other, feed off each other’s energy, and we’re getting ready for camp.”

Williams’ fiancee gave birth last month, so those temptations should be off the table along with other fattening items as Williams tries to bring less of himself to training camp next month.
