Pete Carroll: Intent is to get Doug Baldwin signed “for a good while”

Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin hasn’t expressed much concern about the pace of negotiations on an extension that would keep him in Seattle beyond the 2016 season, but it seems like things may be picking up on that front.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked on Thursday about the chances that the team reaches an agreement with Baldwin before the start of training camp and said that the two sides were “meeting on it right now.” Carroll also said that holding onto Baldwin, who had 78 catches for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, is a priority for the organization.

“It is a big deal, and it’s a very serious negotiation as they all are,” Carroll said, via the Seattle Times. “But he’s done an incredible job for us and been a great teammate. Hopefully, eventually, we’ll get something worked out. I hope it happens. The intent is to get him signed and secured for a good while. So we’ll see if we can get that done.”

Baldwin set career highs across the board last season, so the Seahawks would be buying high on an extension at this point. They’ve expressed a desire to see Russell Wilson “really owning the whole football game,” however, and keeping a favored receiver on hand wouldn’t hurt on that front.

  1. DB is all you can desire as a run-first team. Great blocking receiver who run even complex routes well with some good enough speed and hands.
    Do it, Seahawks!

  2. Harvin fleecing?

How many superbowl td’s did the Vikings get out of that deal?

  3. All Baldwin did was lead the NFL in TD catches last year.

Add to that his familiarity with Wilson and Wilson’s comfort level with him, as well as his growing willingness to be a leader on the team and you have an excellent player that we really do want for several more years.

  4. There will be one of many freee agent losses due to the Wilson contract. It will be the undoing of the Seahawks

  5. Well Doug lead the league in touch downs. So he is good at something. He also burns the Vikings and niners every time they play. Hell, bet he’d be a better kicker than anyone wearing purple.

    Not saying he’s a monster, but a 4yr, 42 mill is reasonable.
Don’t worry about Russ’s contract, our Gm is better than yours.

  6. Marsall Baldwin Robinson all share 14 tds. Baldwin with out lynch numbers go down. So i can see why he trying get more money. He a product of a system. BUM.

  7. Yes, but when Pete signs him, does Baldwin have to issue a public statement about 9/11? You know, because of that whole “Pete Carroll believes the US was responsible for 9/11” thing. Classy guy!
