Vikings cut Bruce Gaston, Travis Lewis

The Vikings signed defensive tackle Bruce Gaston and linebacker Travis Lewis this offseason, but neither one of them is going to training camp with the team.

The Vikings announced Thursday that they have waived both of the players. No one was added to the roster, leaving the Vikes with a couple of spots to play with as they head toward training camp.

Gaston was a recent addition to the club, signing with Minnesota in late May after B.J. Dubose tore his ACL. Gaston saw action for both the Packers and Bears during the 2015 season, appearing in nine games and making 12 tackles and a sack.

Lewis also came to the Vikes with previous NFC North experience. He was a Lions seventh-round pick in 2012 and played 42 games in Detroit over the last four seasons.

  1. Hmmm… I wonder if they called out Peterson for making stupid loyalty comments… If a player does not believe we are SB bound they can leave, rich coming from a guy who wanted to be traded to Dallas 10 months ago.

  2. I heard they were let go because they weren’t on board with AD’s SB talk and AD was going to make them “switch” their position on that if they stuck around.

  3. Even though the Packers are a hated rival of the Seahawks, There is a healthy respect for them as a franchise….
I’m finally seeing why they can’t stand Viking fans. They haven’t won a thing and the last time they mattered, it was using a Packer QB.

    …………
The Seahawks didn’t really have a fanbase until about 5-6 years ago…..I don’t think they are rivals to anyone.

  5. I have been living in Seattle since 95. Every Sunday since 95, when the Viking play at 10, I go to a sports bar to watch the Vikings or else i do not get to see them. I have been to different places over the years but I never had any trouble finding any place where any fan could go in and get the game they wanted to watch. About 2 or 3 times a season the Vikings and the Seahawks are both on at the same time. That was never an issue. Until 2014. The year after the Seahawks won the Superbowl if the Seahawks were playing the early game you could not get a spare TV to watch another game. All places were suddenly packed with Seahawk fans to the point they were overflowing and there were no TVs for other teams.

And now these same fans talk smack to other teams about not winning anything. I bet 3/4 of the “2012s” do not even know the Seahawks had never won anything until 2013.

  6. Another former Packer unemployed. In Wisconsin, we love table scraps. We get them from others who cut these guys. And then we gobble them up. Pronto! Let’s see what happens. We’re always hungry for new parts.

Cool. Just like Vikings’ fans, but without the Super Bowl championship.

  8. AP only wants people who think the Vikings can win the super bowl. Look for 50 more cuts in the upcoming months, and for the Vikings to sign PFTPoet, ariani and in teddy we trust to the active roster.

If winning the Super Bowl is as easy as beating children then AP will lead the Vikings to the promised land this year.

I certainly hope so. Based on your moniker though, what could you possibly know about beating anyone. You dad couldn’t have taught you. Wayne couldn’t beat anyone.

  10. What the ever-so-cute and entertaining Vikie fans here fail to realize is that Gaston was PACKER table scraps that the Vikies picked up. Knock yourselves out guys.

Truth be told, I had to look him up because I didn’t even remember this guy being a Packer.

Well, you may respect the Packers, but Packer fans don’t respect the Seahawks.

If you ever lived in Wisconsin, you would learn as I did, that if you live in Wisconsin, you’re supposed to change your football allegiance to the Packers. Seriously, I was told this many times.

When I asked the people that told me this about Packer fans that lived in the nearby Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area – they informed me that “That’s different.”…

That’s when I lost all respect for fans of the Packers.

I was born and raised in MN. I used to cheer for the Packers until 1961 when the Vikings joined the NFL.

I’ve lived in MO, MA, CA, TX, Germany, VA and WI. The only place where my football allegiance was questioned was in WI.

After my experience with real live Packer fans in WI, I can’t cheer for the Packers to win.

    Girls wear purple
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Purple is the color of kings.

There is a reason that one of the descriptors for Purple is “royal” – as in ROYAL PURPLE.

Some men just aren’t secure enough in their masculinity to where purple. Evidently, you are one of those men that suffer from this affliction.

And at least the Vikings have been consistent with their colors.

Unlike your Packers uniforms that originally were blue and tan. In the late 40’s, the Packers wore gold and white. For a team that was based out of GREEN Bay, they didn’t start using green as a major color of their uniforms until the 50’s.

    Just sayin’…

No, that is nothing like Viking fans. I do not see Viking fans talking smack to other teams that they have not won a Super Bowl. And if the Vikings ever do win a Super Bowl I would hope they have more class than to then go to other teams that have not yet won a Super Bowl and talk smack to them about it. I also hope to one day find out if they do.:)

  14. Well, put your hope in one hand and crap in the other. Should the Vikes win a Super Bowl, and I hope one day they will, there will be an element of your fan base that will hit “the net” being obnoxious and stupid. Goes with the territory.

Incidentally, “gto’s” sweeping generalization of the ribbing he received when he supposedly lived in Wisconsin IS probably true – I’m not saying that what he says is true, I’m saying I could see how back and forth teasing could happen. However, I think what we have in “gto” is a guy who needs to step up his fiber intake a little…or, a lot.

Had a girl who worked for me that was born and reared in the Twin Cities and is a Vikings fan. We have “Packer Days” where employees can wear their Packer stuff (jerseys or whatever) on Fridays before a big game. This gal wanted to wear her Adrian Peterson jersey and I encouraged her to do so.

She did. She also got a lot of ribbing and took it in good humor and turned it into a fantastic conversation starter with her customers. Only ONE Packers fan out of 327 transactions she did that day complained to me…and THAT customer complains when the free coffee isn’t to his liking.

Give it a rest already, gto. If you’re a sorehead antagonistic person in real life as you are here, you probably earned the guff you got. I’ve lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin all of my life and I’ll tell anyone who will listen that by-and-large, Minnesota and Wisconsin people are mirror images of each other. The color of the jersey you support has ZERO to do with anything.
