Sunday Night Football is getting a new theme song

The “waiting all day for Sunday night” football theme song has been sung for a decade by Pink, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and perhaps most memorably Jane Lynch. But its days as a Sunday night staple are done.

Fred Gaudelli, NBC’s executive producer of both Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football, confirmed to the Associated Press that a new Underwood song will debut this season.

The song had lasted 10 years, but I didn’t know how much more we could stay with the song without it feeling routine,” he said.

The new theme will be based on Underwood’s 2014 song “Something Bad.”

    Too late. Far too late.

  2. Too bad they never let Joan Jett actually sing the song they took from her (“I Hate Myself for Loving You” = “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”) – especially considering what a big NFL fan she is.

  3. And, other than the first year of SNF, someone please explain the slavish devotion to country music singers! Can’t we do something different for once???????????????

  4. whatever. it’s a shame they think all football fans are so stupid and tone deaf we like country music though.

  5. Seriously, how can the NFL just continue to produce such crap intros! And not all NFL fans like this crappy music you put in place. Should have each week new/different artists, different styles of music.
Like the SB 50 show, lame, lame and lamer!

  6. Bocephus? Really?? Since we are going to throw out recomendations of singers who have no talent and are only famous due to their parents, I’ll nominate lisa marie presley, kelly osborne, jayden smith, and nicole richie to fill out the board.

  7. Keep the song, change the girl every week. I don’t know how these execs keep their jobs.

  8. Really???

    If there’s a song that’s peaked, it’s Fox NFL Sunday’s.

If NBC had to replace the SNF theme, it was better off using its theme by John Tesh from 1989 till 1990.

Now there might be two reasons why NBC’s Football coverage has worsened in 2016: the new theme and non-stop Dallas Cowboys football!

  9. It’s all garbage, the only and best song ever was Hank Williams Jr.

this need to put what they consider to be dream girls singing this song and or on the sidelines doing reports is a waste…just give me the game.

  10. Who needs an intro during football season, we all know what time it is, spare me all the theatrics and just give me the game, that includes the sideline reporting and pre-game over anaylysis.

Based on the quality of the games the last couple of years how about the theme from Benny Hill?
    ================================

That’s actually the theme song they use before every game in London. The video even has Goodell, and Jerry Jones, and a few other owners chasing each other around while it plays, just like Benny Hill used to. The English fans love it!

  12. Scrap the unrelated song and singer. Just package the week’s best plays with the cool 1970s NFL Films music like the old days.

  13. It really doesn’t need an intro song, we’re all there to watch football not a cheeseball pop artist warbling some lame song.

  14. I REALLY don’t like country music, but I REALLY like looking at Carrie Underwood.

  15. I didn’t mind the song itself. But whatever they decide it’ll be not as good and it’ll include over-the-top cheese, a young woman’s legs, and lots of advertising. But I hope they don’t do the CTE-inducing, MNF exploding smashing helmets.

  16. I really don’t care if they play a song at all. I want to see football not some half talent try to sing a ripped off song.

  17. Bocephus? Really?? Since we are going to throw out recomendations of singers who have no talent and are only famous due to their parents, I’ll nominate lisa marie presley, kelly osborne, jayden smith, and nicole richie to fill out the board.

Bocephus/Rockin’ Randall/Hank Williams Jr stands on his own accord. The guy says some idiot things from time to time, but he’s one hell of an artist.

  18. They’ve already checked the female singer block. The Village People would be more politically correct now.

  19. I’ve been muting the low-brow opening song since SNF started. Short-skirts, explosions, and football! ‘Merica!!

I’d say tone down the flash and give it kind of an intense instrumental with hard hits and big plays (like the old MNF days) that backs up a dramatic narrative about the night’s match up.

  20. Where are the comments ripping on Underwood & Hill?
Great legs and bring back Faith are rips?

So a couple people don’t like country music, but then again, its not really a country song. Others don’t see why they bother (me too).

Hank gets ripped above more then anyone.

I also don’t recall either intro focusing on their breasts.
