Tim Tebow, Jameis Winston visit Orlando shooting victims

One of the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando got a hospital visit from an old high school teammate: Tim Tebow.

Rodney Sumter, a bartender at Pulse, was shot three times. Sumter played football with Tebow at Ponte Vedra Beach Nease High School, and he posted on Instagram this week that Tebow left a vacation to see him in the hospital.

“My high school quarterback left the Bahamas to come and see me. Tebow has always been an awesome person,” Sumter wrote.

Tebow should be commended for visiting the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where many of the shooting victims remain. Also worthy of praise is Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who also visited the hospital.

Sumter briefly played college football at Jacksonville University, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Sumter posted on Instagram that Winston told him the two could get together and Sumter could run routes while Winston throws to him, once Sumter’s injuries have healed.

  1. The good guys in the NFL vastly outnumber the bad guys. Glad to see some recognition for the positive contributions of these two young men.

  2. People still talk like Winston is a character concern but I beg to differ. Compare his actions to Johnny Manziel.

  3. lol uh fire, manzel is a lot of things..but hes never been accused of rape. Now, I think Jameis is like a lot of men these days, who think banging a passed out drunk chick is totally acceptable. I dont think hes the “classic” version of a rapist, but young men need to realize inebriated to the point of blacking out = unable to consent.

Dude…give it a rest. If you can’t read the report for yourself, don’t start spouting that nonsense that has already been discounted several times including by her friends.

  5. It’s a shame that Tebow can’t play anywhere because of the amount of publicity he’d get as a backup. In my opinion, he’d be the best backup in the league. He’s a leader which is one of the characteristics you need most when times go hard such as a starting QB going down. Maybe if NFL Network and ESPN didn’t do overkill on him second year when he led Denver back from a 1-4 record to the playoffs.

  6. Winston has been accused of rape, but has been cleared by three different investigations. Zero evidence, and the girl has changed her story multiple times, to the point where PD has dropped the case.

    “Accused of rape” means nothing.

  7. ndnation spouts off a bunch of blatantly incorrect facts about winston, obv making a disgusting comparison to the Stanford swimmer, then posts again about how Tebow has a “bad rep, yet is one of the nicest guys out there.”

ndnation- you’re hilarious (in a terrible way). Its because of people like you, ndnation… that’s how nice guys get a bad rep. Do everyone a favor and get off the internet.

If nothing else it means a poor choice of partners – either way.

  9. I have to give Tebow credit. I honestly didn’t think he would do something like this, especially since Sumter was tending bar in a LGBT club when he was shot. I truly thought Tebow would reject the guy out of hand, because that’s what most of the right wing religious nuts usually do with a man who’s presumably gay. (You know, showing the love of Jesus and all by condemning and judging.) However, in this case, Tebow was gracious and kind. I respect that. I still think Tebow is delusional to believe he can play QB in the NFL, and at least four teams apparently agree with me. He just doesn’t have the requisite skill set, no matter how good his leadership qualities may be. However, he did the right thing here. Props to him, and best wishes to Sumter for a speedy recovery.

Ever hear of “hate the sin, love the sinner”?

  11. No one ever accused Tebow of being a horrible person; only a horrible quarterback.

  12. Tim please….please go into politics. The republican party desperately needs you. Someone to preach love, not hatred and divisiveness.

Must be why his school paid her off.
