James Harrison: I’ll only give a PED interview if Goodell comes to my house

The NFL plans to send investigators to the first day of Steelers training camp to interview linebacker James Harrison about allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs. Harrison says other ideas.

In a statement he posted on Instagram, Harrison said he’ll give an interview, but only if Commissioner Roger Goodell shows up at his house to do it.

“I never had a bully before in my life and I’m DAMN sure not about to have one at this point. But since I’m a nice guy & don’t mind helping to clear the air in the name of the NFL Shield, I’ll do this interview,” Harrison wrote. “WITH THESE STIPULATIONS: The interview will be done at MY house. BEFORE training camp. On a date of MY choosing. AND Mr. Goodell must be present.”

Harrison has said many derogatory things about Goodell, including, “I hate him and will never respect him.” Goodell probably won’t be taking Harrison up on the invitation to his house.

What’s clear is that the NFL’s investigation of the Al Jazeera documentary about performance-enhancing drugs is a long way from over. The other players accused in that documentary — Peyton Manning, Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and Mike Neal — are also subject to the NFL’s investigation. Those players, however, haven’t made comments as inflammatory as Harrison’s.

  1. The NFL has turned a blind eye to PEDs since its founding. Why investigate now?

    Humans don’t normally run 4.6 40’s when they’re 6’4″ and 270 pounds.

  2. Harrison has always been a total tool. Of course he did PEDs. We all know that. Of course many NFLers use PEDs. Drama for the sake of drama is boring.

  3. I know everyone loves to hate on James and he’s seen as a troublemaker for the league…

If you follow him on social media though, you get a good idea of just how often these guys are tested and how invasive it can be.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be, but it’s got to be extremely frustrating to work SO hard (and if you follow him you see the guy is a freak when it comes to keeping his body right) and go through so many drug tests and then still get accused of taking shortcuts.

  4. Goodell will surely show his frilly pink parts by staying away from Harrison. And this is why Goodell shouldn’t be Commish of the NFL. A commish with no spine should be running Badminton tourneys.

  5. Keep fighting the good fight, Jimmy. After all those years of shooting up players with pain medications, forcing them to pop countless pills, and concealing the dangers of concussions… does the NFL really need to intervene with its players about what chemicals they can and cannot have in their body? Every player should be allowed to consult with their personal doctor and make an informed medical decision about what supplements, or otherwise, they choose to ingest or use.

  6. Doesn’t matter, James. You’ll get 4 games unless you hand over your phone.
“Badges? We don’t need no stinkin badges.”

  7. Harrison gets tested more than anyone. He’s also on record as saying they should do blood tests in addition to urine tests if it’ll clean out the dirty players. He’s never tested positive and NOBODY works as hard as he does to stay in shape.

This is the guy who said he wouldn’t urinate on Goodell to put out a fire, and he posted a copy of the letter he was sent on this issue on his Twitter. He certainly isn’t afraid to speak his mind. I just absolutely love the guy, and I’m proud to have him playing for my team. 🙂

    Go Steelers!

  8. The NFL cannot even investigate a simple deflation of footballs case. The only way they will determine anything meaningful is if someone comes forward and says on the record they were involved. I don’t see that happening.

  9. Do any repespect Goodell? Or not hate him for that matter? This guy has been the demon in the church of football since he took over. When will enough be enough? He doesn’t have the coaches reapect. The players hate him him. The fans want him crucified. When will the owners step up and get rid of this clown?

  10. Love it when any player from any team stands up to goodell.

He is a common enemy and even caused me to defend Tom Brady.

A new enemy can unite two old enemies

  11. People wonder why Goodell is so arrogant and willing to go for broke on some really bogus charges with Brady.

The AlJazeera story had nothing to do with Goodell but with the players and Harrison is thumbing his nose at the league. These are the times that make me almost willing to stop grousing about Goodell.

Bounce Harrison for conduct detrimental, that what this is. All this does is cost the fans more because any fees or the like will trickle down to us.

  12. In other words, he’s not going to give an interview and he’s guilty as charged.

  13. Tb12 never talked trash about any NFL team, owner, commissioner, other players, coaches or anyone and got 4 games for not turning over the phone he was told wasn’t needed. Even though NFL had all information from phone given to them it still didn’t matter. None of these guys should give any interview with this corrupt organization.

  14. I’ve thought this before about Harrison. He isn’t right in the head.
First out, he thinks he’s a nice guy. That is laughable. Secondly, he thinks he can boss the NFL around. I’m gathering when the investigators turn up at Training Camp he will refuse the interview. He will find himself either being fined or suspended. Maybe he has something to hide and that’s his exit strategy.

  15. I don’t like any of the players mentioned in this article but unless they fail a test, I don’t care what Al Jezeera has to say about them and PED’s

  16. I assume he has some obligation of cooperation under his contract. You don’t satisfy that obligation by imposing those sorts of conditions on your cooperation.

One might assume that the threat of fines will motivate him to become more compliant.

  17. Attention NFL, I and many others would pay to see this and I am sure Mr Harrison would agree to it.

  18. BREAKING: Chris Mortenson is reporting that 10 out of the 11 beds in James Harrison’s house are 2 PSI below the legal limit. Sources expect a ridiculously drawn-out court case and an eventual 4 game suspension.

  19. Let them all use PEDs and someone stuff Goodell down a trash bag of used Clorox bleach.

No wonder NCAA football has grown exponentially. It’s a Gulog at Goodells headquarters

  20. Im not sure he understands quite what a bully is.. but I still feel for these guys having to answer because some intern went to a reporter that felt he had no need to try to verify the statement

  21. Since Harrison is in fact merely one of many low ranking employees and not an owner in the NFL and Goodell is his biggest superior it would behoove him to meet with his boss any time any place his boss desires. just because these players are stars and rich doesnt make them as powerful as the Commish.there should be a price to pay for utter insubordination.

  22. Under the NFL’s current burden of proof that alone might constitute failure to cooperate. Can’t blame Deebo for the way he feels about Goodell but want to see him on the field not on on the exempt list or suspended.

  23. Sounds like someone has anger issues.. Is that a side effect of PED useage ??

  24. Here We go with the “plea bargaining” already….

The question is does the NFL want to enter into this rabbit hole. I will gauge their interest once the NFL’s darling Megahead is forced into the fold.

  25. he should at least be grateful the WWNFL delayed the investigation until manning retired.

  26. He can afford to talk big because he’s relying on the NFL PA to prevent them from interviewing him at all.

  27. The Steelers team doctor was busted by the feds for distributing PED’s in 2012. Look it up on google, his name is Dr. Richard Rydze. He worked for the team for 5 years. I find it funny how self righteous Steers fans are when they talk about their team being full of “integrity”!
** for Super Bowl wins yet again under the influence of PED’s.

  28. Looks like New England just lost a draft pick for those comments. And btw good for Harrison. I’m sure he juiced but even so it’s about time the players (like Brady did) stand up to that facist commissioner

  29. 1st and 4th round pick

Million Dollar fine for failure to cooperate & for being generally aware that there is an interview at the start of training camp….

Harrison has a better shot at seeing God twice tomorrow.

  30. Fascinating how this investigation occurs AFTER P. Manning is retired! I guess Goddell can’t investigate a non-player ……smdh

  31. This is amazing. Goodell obviously will not go…if for no other reason than he doesn’t want to Ramsay Bolton’ed by Harrison’s pit bulls.

  32. I’d love to see if Goodell or any NFL sponsored individual would have the cajones to ask for this man’s personal cell phone.

  33. Does he think he’s in charge of something? He’s trying to take the focus off his PED use and spin it into Goodell rant for PR purposes. He knows going off on Goodell will be popular and get him sympathy, even though he’s probably been juiced his whole career.

    _______

Hey guys, hey guys! Listen! I have a computer and I Gamoogled why my team always loses to the Steelers and here’s what I found!

    I guess Goddell can’t investigate a non-player ……smdh
    =================================

if it is all about integrity, he has to investigate Peyton.

the guy while sitting recovers to the point of where he was before the surgery in record time?

The drugs are delivered to his house?

    He blames his wife?

an ad hominem attack on the reporting agency, al jazerra?

goons sent to the guy making the allegations forcing a recant?

    yeah, nothing to investigare.

  36. Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong, James Harrison… some guys just keep getting stronger and more intense in their defiance into their late 30s. Weird.

  37. Don’t worry Harrison

Goodell’s definition of “integrity” doesn’t include teams that don’t go to the Super Bowl every other year or so.

“Integrity” to Goodell and the Owners means suspending any player that serves as a road block to the 31 other owners desires for riches and Super Bowl fame

The “investigation” is and will be a sham

  38. Why is Peytons name not in BOLD print like the other guys?

Where is Mrs. HGH Manning ???

  39. This would be awesome…

The NFL and owners should be eating this up. They can promote this as a reality show TV special…Maybe even PPV.

They can show it on ESPN and the NFL network. Proceeds from the commercials can all go to retired players.

Then towards the end of the special a cage slowly comes down around Goodell and Harrison in the middle of his living room…

And only one man will leave…

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m paying to see that!!

  40. Why would any player in their right mind consent to an interview with NFL league offices?

I can’t stand the Steelers or their fans as I am sure most feel the same about my favorite team.

    Patriots fan since ’75.

  41. Let’s see if I have this one straight, the story breaks on an Arab news network (like they like anything American) and its main source later recants his whole story and now the NFL wants to investigate his allegations?

    oh ya, makes perfect sense.

  42. This guy is just plain stupid. There are a bunch of people on here that idolize anyone who is insubordinate to Goodell and that is sad. What does Harrison gain from this? Street cred on social media? Yeah, that is important. What is wrong with people these days?

  43. Now they are requesting interviews, kind of coincidence that Manning is retired?

I can see another huge court battle over the game I love and I have to wonder is it worth the time to investigate the story from some hack from a news organization that I cannot even pronounce.

    Can we just play football!

  44. Why is Peytons name not in BOLD print like the other guys?

Because you don’t understand links to current players. Quit trying to find any reason to get upset.

  45. Wow! We are just a nation of fools at this point. At what Company do you think you can get away with talking about the CEO or Boss like this? I guess all you closet- heroes are trying to live vicariously through his “stand”. Just like most of the under-educated Trump supporters. They love him because he says things without caution. Sounds like an excuse for a delusional dimentia patient or worse a sociopath. I am not saying I like Goodell or even my own Boss, but I like keeping my income and a certain amount of conformity is to be expected in the world.

  46. Awww man. Deebo needs to go. He sound like he on so much juice now it aint funny. Tomlin need to show this man the door and soon before he bust it down.

  47. is it worth the time to investigate the story from some hack from a news organization that I cannot even pronounce.

    ==============================

    yes

your inability to pronounce the news organization is not the determining factor if an investigation is worthwhile.

  48. From the desk of the Commish of the NFL Shield

    Mr. Harrison,

Dinner for two. Let’s not make a federal case about this. Looking forward.

    Me.

  49. laxcoach

I am not saying I like Goodell or even my own Boss, but I like keeping my income and a certain amount of conformity is to be expected in the world.
    =================================

Conformity is ok unless the there is unhanded means in carrying out directives, and now you know how unions started.

  50. Comments like this from Harrison aren’t even interesting anymore, but you know what would make for an awesome pay-per-view? Round up all the guys who always give the stock answer (or no answer)…Eli Manning, Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Russell Wilson, Luke Kuechly…just get them absolutely hammered, and then ask them about Goodell, the owners, the union, replay, concussions, felons in the league…all the PR issues constantly swirling around the shield, and see what these guys really think for once. I would watch the hell out of that.

    ______________________________________

Your post is so silly, it made me laugh. How invasive it can be? I mean, get real!
Here’s the deal: the reason the players are getting tested is because pro athletes in all sports have clearly shown they will do anything to get an edge on their opponents. It’s all on them.
For the record, I don’t hate Harrison or any other NFL player. But I don’t trust any of them, either. How can you trust any pro athletes when it comes to PED’s? If I tried to list all the pro athletes who denied using PED’s but were lying through their teeth, the list would take up this whole site.
The old saying that you reap what you sow is very true. If Harrison has a problem with this “invasive” testing, he should go to a Players Association meeting and scream at some of his fellow players. Because they, and those who have gone before, are the reason he’s being tested.

  52. “steelbydesign says: Jun 27, 2016 7:05 AM

    ==============================

NFL testing is a complete joke compared to Olympic and cycling testing where they test year round and are much much much more strict. There’s a reason for the seemingly draconian testing measures: too many cheaters.

  53. All talk. Harrison will eventually cave or quite football, I’d bet. The NFL has the power if you want to play in this league and that’s the bottom line.

As to Harrison, the way he played and complained shows he’s not a very rational person. His problems with the league began largely with penalties and fines over his helmet to helmet contact and illegal hits. Say all you want about whether you agree with Harrison or want the league to let players play more aggressively, the reality is Harrison violated the league’s on field rules (those were penalties); and his reactions to those penalties as well as the way he played on the field (though he was a great player) don’t elicit much concern about the Mike Webster’s of the NFL world. Regardless of how poor a commissioner Goodell may be (and he’s pretty bad), Harrison’s problems with the league are really a black eye on himself who cared little about other players’ long term health by the way he chose not to change his style of play.

At the same time, Goodell would do well to invite more active players to the table to talk about rules, race, and other issues. Goodell is operating under an old-school, ‘modernist’, top-down, leadership model that still has a place on the field among coaches in a sport with as much testosterone as the NFL, but culturally and off the field is corporate model in decline and is ultimately an ineffectual approach by Goodell.

  54. So let me get this straight: The NFL, after looking the other way on this forever, now wants to get all sanctimonious on peds? Wow! Any moron with any sense knows that most of these guys are juicing. They can’t help but to juice considering what they go through.

  55. ” But since I’m a nice guy & don’t mind helping to clear the air in the name of the NFL Shield,”

Clearing the air? In the name of the NFL Shield? How about clearing your name? In the name of your legacy. Your an employee accused of cheating. Answer the charges. Thumbing your nose at the Commish and league investigators can kinda snowball on you. Adk the last guy who did it.

People act like Goodell owns the league and no one can do anything about it. Goodell works for the owners. His job is to take the bullets for them. They could remove him at any time if they didn’t like what he was doing. The fact they haven’t tells you all you need to know. All this animosity being directed at Goodell and not the owners shows what a good job he’s doing, in their opinion.

  56. Twist in the plot: Goodell shows up at Harrison’s house to conduct the PED interview, argument starts and Harrison beats the hell out of Goodell

  57. NFL needs to be investigated for NOT investigating Peyton knowing there was a Super Bowl at stake & assigning two Referees to bronco games who are a combined 14-0 when officiating those games. Hocholi and Blakeman. Super Bowl 50 needs an asterisk & the NFL needs to be investigated for fraud.

  58. Good for you James.

RG is hot garbage and it’s time players tell him what they really think about him. Dude sucks.

All of his “investigations” have stunk worse than a week old dirty diaper filled with Indian food.

    -signed Saints fans everywhere.

  59. Obviously since the interviews will take place at Training Camp, the NFL has no evidence of PED use. Now what’s sad is anyone can accuse one of using and they’ll have 2 choices talk or be suspended except now that absent of REAL PROOF, the players can now go to court and win. Also since nothing has been “leaked” ,no suspensions should occur but since we know hiw Goodell works he’ll try and lose his job messing w/A Rooney/Steelers or a Packers player w/o proof of use

  60. PEDs are ok in my book. If a pro athlete wants to take a PED and help the team I root for please go ahead. If they want to leverage their long term health to put 200 million in the bank for their families more power to them. This overblown outrage against PEDs is laughable in my book.

Adults in America can make their own decisions. Big Brother should stay out of our lives as much as possible. That includes the bedroom and bathroom.

If you’re a pro athlete and don’t like it, start a PED free league like they have in bodybuilding and the public will vote with their pocketbooks.
