Johnny Manziel turns up in Mexico, taunts his dad

Getty Images

In case Johnny Manziel’s father is wondering if his tough love message last week got through, the answer seems to be a resounding “No.”

The former Browns quarterback just posted a photo on Instagram of himself at a resort in Mexico, wearing a Josh Gordon jersey and celebrating how good he thinks he has it.

The message includes the oh-so-rebellious hashtag #hiDad, which doesn’t suggest that the son was very receptive to his father calling him a “druggie” and saying he hoped he went to jail.

Of course, Manziel also made it clear Gordon wasn’t with him. Though the two are friends, Gordon’s probably relieved he pointed that out.

After all, Gordon’s trying to get reinstated, and apparently taking the steps needed to achieve that goal.

  1. Damn look how skinny he is. He was skinny when he played but this is getting into manorexic territory.

  2. Just shaking my head. At the rate he is going, he will be out of money soon.

Just a side not, how was he able to leave the country with a pending court case?

  3. Can you blame him?

His dads part of the problem. Any father that throws his son under the bus to the whole world needs to be in jail.

Johnny needs to go to rehab. Was never a fan of him in Football but I hope he gets the help he needs.

  4. Stoned, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son. No way to go through life.

  5. RIP Johnny. You were much too young to die. People tried to help you but you refused to admit you had a problem. Hopefully this does not happen to another young kid.

  6. I’d like to know how many dopey managers took one look at this fool and thought he was NFL material? You gotta be kidding me.

  7. You know you’re a trainwreck when Josh Gordon tries to distance himself from you.

Sorry for partying. Nobody in the PFT comment section would ever make an NFL team nor will they ever sniff $1m.

    So??

Ummm, he’s posting on instagram for the world to see with the clear intent of trying to attract any attention he can. He doesn’t want to be left alone and in peace.

He looks like hell. I wonder where he gets the money for this.

I was wondering the same thing. Just how big was that rookie contract of his? Between the drugs, partying, and legal fees his burn rate must be massive.

  11. I knew he’d tank in the NFL and assumed he’d go work for daddy’s oil company, but it doesn’t even look like that’s gonna happen. I’m done hoping the best for this guy. Have fun, get drunk, sniff a line and hate your family. Just don’t pretend you want to make it back into the NFL, you don’t want to and nobody wants you

  12. For those that ask why we need better border patrol ? There is zero communication between the court system ( outside of convicted ) pending court case mean squat either way one travels on the border.

For those asking how he can get in Mexico? Evidently you have never traveled there. A passport is your key into Mexico Unless you are on a most wanted list nobody checks. They just make sure the passport is current. Why do you think thousands of Islamic radicalized people came here unoticed That’s right , right thru any border crossing driving a vehicle Yuma is the easiest place. Yes. I drive though once a month.

  15. Nobody in the PFT comment section would ever make an NFL team nor will they ever sniff $1.

You might be a kid who hasn’t made a million yet yourself but don’t speak for all of us. Many of us are older and actually have gone past that already. I wouldn’t bet against a few ex-football players who made tons of money reading and posting here.

You might be surprised who’s lurking in here, but go ahead and stick up for Johnny by trying to disparage everybody else? Fail.

  16. I bet his dad wishes he would of cut him off along time ago and made him earn some money.

A lot of us have over $1m (it’s not that hard to do if you are diligent). But you’re correct that it’s a LOT harder to make an NFL team.

Well, he got on a plane and flew there would be my guess. Nobody told him he couldn’t leave the country, and nobody asks at the border if you have a pending court case.

  20. As sad as it sounds, it looks like I’m in better physical shape than he is.

  21. Please keep us informed of this trip of his, it’s the best story going during this dead period. I hope Johnny does a Showtime reality series. I bet it would draw big numbers.

  22. There is no redemption for him. Right now he is running through his NFL money but hopefully the parents will leave their money to charity because this fool will waste it in to time doing stupid things.

  23. The legal stuff and his Dad’s concerns MIGHT be noteworthy, creating an article based off his instagram post is just feeding the beast. Dude is the NFL version of a Kardashian

  24. There comes a time when you no longer wonder why Johnny is like he is, and begin to no longer care. Next is you want him off the street and in jail so he doesn’t hurt innocent people. This guy makes Ryan Leaf look like Tim Tebow.

  25. Remember when Skip Bayless said he could make a case for Johnny being in the top two on the draft? And that he’d be a perennial Pro Bowler? And that he’d be bigger than Lebron James?

    Who’s “money” now Skip?

  26. “Skip Bayless said”

Skip Bayless is paid to act stupid. Luckily for him he doesn’t have to work at it.

  27. This kid is such a loser. I can’t wait for him to be out of any kind of limelight. Just a neverwas who thinks he’s something.

  28. I seriously doubt he could have enough people who’d volunteer to carry his casket when the inevitable happens.

I get your point and even agree to a point because i could careless, but in the real world, if you suck up all the positive and often unwarranted attention, gotta be ready to man up when you screw up. Fair or not, thats how it is

Yeah because so many millionaires waste their time on this website lol Bloomberg.com isn’t a link to PFT.

  33. Manziel: Likes to party, slides down the draft, falls to the Browns, is misused like every Browns QB, and is out of the NFL. Nobody can get off his back.
Winston: Rapes a girl, gets away with it because DA and PD detective are FSU alumni, only has “character issues”, is hailed as one of the upstanding young QBs in the NFL.

    Yay priorities.

  34. The thing that’s crazy is that each and everyone one of us knows we’re going to wake up to a morning headline in the near future reading, “Former Browns QB Manziel dead at (age)” — and there’s nothing anyone can seem to do to stop it.

Alas, it’s probably how he wants it anyway.

  35. Feeling sorry for his parents. It’s bad enough to find your son go off the rails of his life. It’s even worse that it is playing out in a very public way.

Sorry for partying. Nobody in the PFT comment section would ever make an NFL team nor will they ever sniff $1m.

Problem being he is doing a little more than partying. He is BREAKING LAWS. Last I checked, beating your girlfriend, buy illegal drugs, and destroying property and refusing to pay is all illegal. And even if you play in the NFL, you do have to obey the same laws as the rest of us. See Aaron Hernandez.

I imagine if Manziel had rented a house from you and destroyed it without paying for repairs, you would classify his behavior as more than “partying.”

The shame in all of this is, the boy made around $8,000,000 from playing and most likely will be broke in another 2 or 3 years. He could have been set for life, you almost have to work hard at blowing that kind of money.

Of course it sounds like coming from a well off family to start with, he had no idea how well he had it and does that appreciate a thing.

My question as far as the visit to Mexico is this. People explained how easy it is to get into Mexico, but was he supposed to leave the country? If not, isn’t the post kind of a dumb idea as it brings the legal system to the attention of the fact that you left the country?

If so. Just another example of Manziel thinking that he does not have to conform to the same laws and rules everyone else does.

  37. I clicked the link to the instagram.. most of the comments are calling him out, but this guy nico really hits the nail on the head.. “nicovigorito – you gonna die bruh”

The idea that Manziel is a victim of the Browns is preposterous. He squandered his opportunity for success in the NFL while, so far, Winston appears to be working hard to seize his opportunity for success.

  39. I’m guessing there’s an Affluenza Clinic of some kind in Mexico?
Ethan Couch was in Puerto Vallarta for ‘treatment’, correct?

I’m sure Johnny is working closely with the disguise ‘Staff’ too, in between rounds of Cabo Wabo Tequila Shots, no doubt.

Gotta keep that elbow in shape, if he’s gonna make a serious run at a comeback.

No he is NOT entitled to ruin his life in peace. He’s a public figure, who is constantly acting like a moron, and putting his moron acts in the public eye ON PURPOSE.

So no, he isn’t a private person, trying to live a private life.

He’s a moron putting his idiocy on social media.

He thinks he is acting normal, instead of the psycho he is.

I repeat he IS NOT ENTITLED to peace when he clearly doesn’t want it.

Why on earth can anyone think that he should be able to ruin his life in peace, when he clearly wants to publish himself in the process of ruining his life?

    Seriously people, use some logic.

Where do I start with this stupid comment?
A: the fact that you think a million bucks is a lot of money says it all right there
B: Contrary to your belief’s wealthy people are football fans to sweetheart
C: for the people wondering where Johnny gets his money look up his dad, his parents are worth somewhere in the 50 to 60 million range so even if he is cut off right now (which I highly doubt btw) the guy has probably never had to touch a dime of HIS money so I think if he lives through this he will be just fine in the long run

  44. After his years of drug and booze addled behavior, my arms look way more strong and powerful than his, and I’m an old geezer in my late 50s who never played a down of football. Christ, what a waste this bozo is. Go away, Johnny, and stay away.

  45. If he makes it back to America, he should drive his Mercedes through Compton on the way home.

If the folks there stop him he won’t have the opportunity to tweet, ever again.

  46. comment section would ever make an NFL team nor will they ever sniff $1.

    Not sniff $1?
Not true, I just bought a bag of Frito’s and they cost $1.30….

  47. Seriously, has Johnny ever met Ryan Leaf? That should be the equivalent of the “Scared Straight” program.

As long as Johnny idiot is still posting photos he is inviting all of this scrutiny.

I predict he won’t die from this and he will somehow avoid jail, so part IV of this drama is Johnny apologizing to everyone and trying to get into football shape. Then we can really mock him cause it will be far too late even in a league where they forgive almost anything (sorry Ray Rice).

  48. I just wanna say that both Josh Gordon & Manziel were spotted on a plane headed to Mexico, REEKING of marijuana. It’s all over twitter.

  49. Equally addicted are the media, who for some reason, continue to bring us a daily report on this turd. One way to make him go away is to simply not post stories about him.
Like the Kardashiods(a family from another planet), they live off the fame. Wither the fame, wither the parasite.

  50. Why are we still talking about this guy? He is not currently a football player, and clearly he is not going to be one either. Even Jerrah isn’t going to hire this clown now. That’s saying something. Lets just wait 10 years and read about his sad spiral to hell then.

  51. Will the press and everybody else just leave the guy alone and forget about him finally.he has already committed professional football suicide as no teams will touch him anymore so let him rest in peace. if he wants to party himself to death thats his right so leave him alone.he simply is yesterdays news and reading about him is simply boring these days.way to go johnny, its not everyone who can afford to say lifes one big party and die proving it every day.

  52. Boy, where are all the people who said this guy was going to be a star or even a superstar and who simultaneously said that Teddy Bridgewater was going to be a JaMarcus Russell (big wonder why) type bust?

  53. This guy gives Ryan Leaf a bad name. How bad does Cleveland look now for drafting him in the 1st round. Crazy, he had the goods to be a starting NFL QB but would rather waste his life getting on highs all the time. How can anyone be this stupid??

  54. Sweet tats, bro

This Mexico trip and the Instagram post shows that he truly doesn’t care about what others think of him – which in his case, is a negative thing. I’m not sure that he really wants to play in the NFL again. So maybe this is step 1 of his descent into anonymity. The Vegas disguise didn’t work. It’s time to go deeper. Soon he’ll just be some skinny guy from Mexico named Juan, possibly with a real mustache this time.

  55. Just stay in Mexico, then we won’t have to read about him anymore.
He needs help, won’t do it, so mix in with all the other losers there, he will mix in just fine. Don’t bother to come back here, everyone is sick of him.

  56. “His dads part of the problem. Any father that throws his son under the bus to the whole world needs to be in jail.”

    –You can’t be serious.

  57. It cracks me up to read the comments about how he is going to die young from his behavior.

He does a little coke, he gets real drunk, and he does it in a very public way. Hardly a tragic case with a death wish.

And, for those of you puritans clicking your tongue and shaking your head, making comments on him from a place of total ignorance: drugs are not that expensive. That’s kind of the point.

Yes cocaine is more expensive than others but guess what: he almost certainly isn’t paying for it. Guys who have it/deal it, LOVE to play the big shot. There is a line of guys hoping for a chance to get Johnny high.

I think he loves rubbing your nose in it, that he wiped his *** with your dream, something he really doesn’t care about. I think it is pretty funny myself. And I don’t blame him, working that hard for someone else’s dream is no fun. He’s not going to regret any of it, he is doing what most American kids do at his age and he’s loving every moment of it.

So save your tears and lamentations, he doesn’t need or want them, and he mocks you for even trying
