Mike Ditka passes on Donald Trump’s invitation to speak at Republican convention

AP

There were reports earlier this week that presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump had lined up a trip of sports legends to speak for him at the Republican National Convention.

Perhaps he should have checked with legendary Bears coach Mike Ditka first, before reports that had the Hall of Famer alongside Mike Tyson and Bobby Knight.

“No one’s ever talked to me about it. I have no idea where it’s coming from,” Ditka told Kim Janssen of the Chicago Tribune. Later in the day, he said Trump called him, but he declined the offer to give a speech in Cleveland.

While he still supports Trump in the election, Ditka’s assessment of the party was rather, well, Ditka.

“The Republican Party has its head up its a–,” Ditka said. “If he’s the candidate, you’ve got to get behind him. It does the party no good. They’re a bunch of a–holes.”

And lest you think Ditka is just talking out of his, he said his endorsement of Trump stands.

If you want good things to happen you can vote for him, and if you don’t, you don’t,” Ditka said. “But don’t b—- about it after the fact. . . .

“America’s pretty resilient. We’ve survived the last seven years, haven’t we?”

With lines like that, it’s no wonder Trump wanted to bring Ditka on stage.

  1. There’s been numerous articles on PFT concerning Trump, and no doubt there will be more. But I’ve yet to see a single one concerning Hillary. I wonder why?

  2. Mike Ditka, Bobby Knight, Lou Holtz, Ted Nugent, Sarah Palin, convicted rapist Mike Tyson, Dennis Miller, Hank Williams Jr, etc…etc.. What a line up.

I hate Trump, but I love how he is destroying the GOP brand.

  3. This is no longer about left or right because Bush and Clinton are one and the same, they do what they’re told to do.

It’s about standing up for your country like the Brits did and at least delay a One World government.

    Time to wake up.

  4. I have no respect for Ditka anymore. Not because he won’t support Trump, I get that. But because he refused to run against Obama in the Senate. He would have won hands down and our nation you not have to endure Obama later becoming president and the messes he created. So when you blame Obama remember to blame Ditka too.

  5. Not surprised to see that Trump failed to understand that you have to book the talent first before bragging about it. After all, Trump bragged about how he and Reagan were tight, only to have White House records show that Reagan hated and avoided Trump.

  6. We survived the last 7 years? What about the 8 terrible years before that? Bush made O look like Kennedy. We haven’t had a decent potus in ages.

  7. Trump is a Democrat, his mission is to elect Hillary. He is not seriously running for president. Don’t be fooled.

  8. Oooh. I wish I hadn’t seen this article. Ditka’s lost some points if he supports Trump, even knowing that “it does the party no good”.

What stuns me is not that the right hates Hillary (I get it, she’s not charismatic) but they look at Trump and see someone to believe in. Either way nationally and globally he doesn’t have the majority of suport so back to football.

You’re joking, right? … I can’t think of a single connection that Hillary Clinton has to sports, much less the NFL. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been trying to get Mike Ditka, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and countless others to speak at the Republican National Convention. And all have turned him down so far.

Trump is on record as saying that he doesn’t need to spend lots of money on his campaign because the media gives him so much free publicity and in his estimation any publicity is good publicity so it looks like PFT is playing right into his hands, huh?

Uhhhh… The DJI and SP500 have been riding record highs for the last 5 years straight. America has seen unprecedented job growth, and for the first time in 40 years, the American industrial sector has grown at a solid 5-10% rate almost every year of Obama’s presidency. This has not been true since before Carter.

I think it speaks for itself that people who can’t find work, when America has been creating jobs at a record pace, would vote for a schmuck like Trump. Obviously, they don’t have the mental tools to fend for themselves when times are good, so what tools would they have to determine that they’re being conned by a huckster? LOL.

Wake up man. The jobs being created are part time and minimum wage jobs that don’t even pay enough for people to live. Moreover, Team-O changed the formula for which unemployment is calculated to give a false impression that it is much lower than it truly is.

Politically correct Liberals are ruining this nation. They are the “everybody gets a trophy” crowd and concern themselves with “safe spaces” and “gender identification”. All the while other countries are taking our manufacturing and jobs.

  40. “The economy is in the tank from 8 years of a Obama. So you want more of the same?”

Apparently you want to return to the halcyon days of the Bush/Cheney regime when we were hemorrhaging jobs and on the verge of an international monetary disaster that was directly created by republican fiscal policies. Or don’t you remember that? FYI, and because I know you either 1) aren’t aware that President Obama has turned the economy around after the Bush disaster or 2) you are a republican troll who is only trying to derail progress in this nation, President Obama has done an amazing job with the economy despite unprecedented republican obstructionism and traitorous behavior. I don’t expect you to believe any of this, mostly because Fox so-called News and Limbaugh/Hannity/O’Reilly won’t tell you about it. Find a reputable journalistic source and check it out for yourself. You might be surprised at just how well the economy has recovered from the deep hole into which Dubya drove it.
