Arena Football is interested in Johnny Manziel

NFL teams have given Johnny Manziel the cold shoulder since the Browns cut him in March, but there’s another football league willing to give Manziel a chance.

Arena Football League Commissioner Scott Butera told TMZ that his league would love to have Manziel.

“We could provide a strong platform for him to demonstrate that he is back,” Butera said. “We would also work with him and provide him whatever help he needed to live a healthy life.”

The Arena Football season only has four more weeks, so at the moment, Butera’s comments seem designed more to get a little attention for his league than like a serious offer to have Manziel sign with one of Arena’s eight teams.

If Manziel ever gets serious about trying to jump start his career, however, he might have no choice but to play in a league like the AFL or the CFL. The NFL is going to want Manziel to prove himself before he gets another chance.

  1. Didja see Tim Tebow, who apparently cannot play any other position besides quarterback, now hosts a home-improvement show. Which I get it… Because it truly is the Lords work.

I was not Tebow was just out for himself and paying lip service to all the causes he supposedly subscribes to. We’ll see if Johnny Fieldgoal has any more fortitude.

  2. The AFL is the only choice. The CFL won’t touch this guy. Although his scrambling ability may be suited for the league up north, he has WAY TOO MUCH BAGGAGE!!! Any contributions he could make (?) on the field would be offset by his negative past.

  3. If they have a very, very relaxed drug policy, this just might be crazy enough to work.

  4. Who really cares about that stunningly moronic little Gargoyle.
He’s probably nursing a cocaine hangover from celebrating his being sober for 8 hours.
He should just go away and die, his parents don’t even want him anymore.

  5. It is going to take at least a year sober and hard work before the CFL OR NFL will even think about wasting a roster spot on him. There was no guarantee he would have made it in the NFL. But it is hard seeing a guy with a lot of talent wasting it, when Tebow would sell his soul to have what talent Johnny has to play in the NFL.

  6. I still say they should put him on the cover of Mad Magazine because he’s the real life Alfred E. Neuman.
The only difference is Alfred E. Neuman is smarter than Manziel.

  7. Lol, you’re all assuming they want a QB! Actually, they do need his arm because the t-shirt cannon guy quit last week to go flip burgers.

  8. “If he gets convicted, will Canada allow him in?”

Canada will not let people with felony convictions in, especially if they are for violent crimes or DUIs.

Even without a conviction at this point I doubt very much the Canadian government would extend a work visa to him. He’s had to much bad press and been caught on cam doing bad things too many times.

  9. “Arena Football League Commissioner Scott Butera told TMZ that his league would love to have Manziel”

Arena Football League would love the publicity.

  10. The AFL is for the pay-your-dues guys.

    What dues has he paid?

He won’t pay them unless he cures himself from his addictions or vices.

  11. Forget about the idea of offering Manziel a job. The commissioner of the AFL should be organizing an medical intervention to keep this guy alive and put a restraining order on his druggie friends. As of right now Johnny Manziel is functionally unemployable as a low skill service worker let alone an elite professional athlete.

  12. I really don’t care if Johnny M ever plays football again, but who wouldn’t love to go on a three day bender with the guy? That’d be some good times.

  13. The physical condition he is in right now, it is very likely a full-speed tackle would kill him on the field. Even at the Arena level.

He’s gone so far down the drain by now that he may wind up being remembered for a lot of things, but the fact that he was ever on an NFL roster will just be an interesting bit of trivia.

  14. Nobody should give that bum a job that pays more than minimum wage until he fixes his stupidity. He is a walking time bomb looking for some place to go off. Not exactly the kind of guy reputable people or companies would normally associate with. The arena league must subscribe to the belief that no publicity can be bad. Good luck with that.

“Oh, this young man has had a very trying rookie season. With the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country’s refusal to accept him, well, I guess that’s more than most 21-year-olds can handle…”

  16. Arena football is a circus sideshow, so it makes sense that they would be interested in a new clown act. Or maybe Manziel could start a new reality show called “Naked and Hung Over”.

  17. Arena football is interested in Johnny Manziel?

I’ll take “Things those of us who aren’t blind or stupid knew two years ago” for $500, Alex.
