Joseph Randle accused of threatening to kill deputy who denied phone call

FILE - This is an Oct. 27, 2013, file photo showing Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle watching during warmups before an NFL football game against the Detroit Lions in Detroit. Police in suburban Dallas say Randle has been arrested after taking underwear and cologne from a mall department store without paying. Frisco Police Sgt. Brad Merritt says Randle is charged with Class B misdemeanor theft. He was detained Monday evening, Oct. 13, 2014, by store security before being arrested and booked into the Frisco city jail. Former Cowboys running back Joseph Randle has apparently, allegedly, made a bad situation even worse.

According to Amy Renee Leiker of the Wichita Eagle, Randle threatened to kill a deputy who wouldn’t allow him to make a phone call while he was incarcerated.

The affidavit released Monday said that while Randle was being held for his latest felony charge, he became so upset at a deputy he said: “I will kill you I swear on my life and everything that I have I will kill you when I get out.”

In case that wasn’t clear, he repeated the threat several times.

The report said the deputy felt threatened, and that Randle was yelling it “in a very aggressive manner,” as opposed to the more congenial death threats one ordinarily receives.

The charge adds another count of criminal threat to his already big pile of charges. He has been deemed competent to stand trial for allegedly hitting three people with a car after a beer pong game, and another for interfering with officers trying to serve him a warrant.

The Cowboys cut him last year prior to a suspension for a previous domestic violence incident, which was far more serious than the stolen underwear and cologne from earlier in his Dallas career.
