Brady will miss two division games, two national TV games

Now that Tom Brady is dropping his fight against the NFL and plans to serve his four-game suspension to start the 2016 season, four Patriots opponents can start planning to see Jimmy Garoppolo quarterbacking the Patriots.

And the Browns can plan for an angry Brady in his first game back.

The Patriots open the season at Arizona on Sept. 11 in the season’s first Sunday Night Football game. The Patriots then play home games vs. the Dolphins, Texans and Bills. The Texans game, a Thursday nighter, is also a national TV game.

Brady would be eligible to return when the Patriots play at Cleveland on Oct. 9.

Brady’s suspension officially starts on Sept. 3 when rosters are trimmed to the regular-season size of 53. He can return to the team on Oct. 3.

  1. Cleveland will have crazy motivation after hearing weeks about how they’re the “perfect” opponent for Brady to ease his way back into the saddle against.

I know it’s the Browns, but expect an upset.

  2. 2-2. They’ll lose in Arizona (which they probably would have even with Brady) and will lose to either Houston or Buffalo, but not both. And they will then beat the Browns 63-6 in week 5.

I haven’t got anything against the Browns.

But based on their performances recently, and the fact that not much has changed in the off-season (except for acquiring a has-been QB who has lost all confidence) … I would guess that Cleveland will be 0-4 by this game, and already realizing their season is over, statistically speaking.

  4. 2ruefan: I get your logic, but an 0-4 team with nothing to lose is dangerous when there’s a national spotlight on their next game.

  5. Tom will beat Cleveland like a rented mule. It’ll be like playing one of our Texas 5A high schools.

  6. Even as a Bills fan I think this suspension is ridiculous, as was the loss of a first round pick (which is the less argued about but probably more serious aspect of the punishment). The Patriots got screwed. Any of you would feel the same if it was your team.

It shouldn’t have ever amounted to anything more than a publicly announced but small fine for the Patriots and a firmly worded letter to every team in the league that clearly outlined the very serious consequences that would follow any further equipment violations in the future. And then of course the implementation of a pregame football inspection program for all teams similar to what we have now. That would have been fair.

  7. If Garoppolo gets hurt in the pre-season or early in game one, Pats could go 0-4.

Pats have two nationally televised games in the first four weeks. Will be interesting to see the ratings.

No doubt the fish fans are dancing in the street but then that’s nothing new for them in the off season.

Haven’t seen any dancing in the street yet. Personally, most of us would prefer brady at QB, but then again, it’s at foxboro so it may not mater who’s at QB.

  9. NFL is dumb.

Brady had highest sold merchandise for NFL, he draws crowds, and is great for the product on the field and is a money maker.

The NFL suspended him over 0.2 PSI.

You can’t make this up. What a bunch of buffoons.

A small fine was never in the cards. As has been widely reported, Mike Kensil went up to Pats’ equipment manager Dave Schoenfield at halftime and said, “We weighed the balls. You are in big f—–g trouble.”

Kensil and others at 345 Park Avenue were clearly out to get the Pats. If they had to deny the science, ignore exculpatory evidence, edit an “independent report,” and leak false information to the media to perpetrate this lynching (and they did all of these things), that was fine with them.

  11. I’m glad we’re missing the Jets. If Marshall holds on to the ball in NE, we were both 11-5. That was the difference, unbelievable.

  12. Come the end of this CBA the owners and good ol Rodge are in for the fight of their lives. I wouldn’t be surprised if a full season is lost due to the players not giving in like they did on this one. The only team to vote it down were the Steelers. Next time I think the NFLPA is going to demand a lot, and not give up the fight until they get what they want. And I say, “good for them”. Screw the billionaire owners that can’t even build their new stadium without tax payer money. Screw the owners for suspending players for opting to smoke pot on their free time, but will push opioids down their throats to get them back on the field. Good times are coming right around the corner, and I’m standing with the guys that actually play football.

Nope, no need. Brady has lost the last 3 trips to Miami and often before then. The Dolphins beat the pats more than and other team in the division. The Dolphins still hold the head to head victories again the pats. Must be a new fan and not remember when the pats were the doormats of the AFC East. Good times.

  14. If Brady really is completely innocent, then this whole thing is just so rediculous. If he actually did something, just take your spanking and move on already. I’m sick of hearing about the whole stupid thing.

I guess you can lie and cheat all you want as long as you sell out your merchandise for the league.

If you believe this, you are the buffoon ad beyond dumb….

  16. The cheater and liar Tom Shady is getting exactly what he deserves for destroying his phone to cover up evidence.

They will be lucky to win one of their first four games and will again get used to being where they belong, in the basement of the AFC East. You know, where they toiled for almost 30 years before Belicheat brought his cheating ways to town……

  17. I was happy to see Brady dropping the legal fight. Should have done it sooner. Maybe The Patriots can now start to find a way to win clean. It starts at the top it must come from Kraft. New England are now on their last chance any more rule infractions must be met with the harshest of punishments.

They’ll go 3-1 or 2-2 and be just fine when Brady returns–the Patriots are coached and prepared better than yours for everything as usual.

You know, except for the 20 winning seasons they had in their history before Brady and Belicheck, you were almost accurate.

  19. Nice favorable schedule they gave the Pats while Brady is out!!!

    They’ll go 3-1 and they’ll be in Super Bowl….

    Perfect storyline!!!
