The Raiders have signed cornerback David Amerson to a four-year contract extension, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

The report said Amerson’s deal is worth as much as $38 million and includes almost $18 million in guarantees.

A second-round pick of the Redskins in 2013, Amerson was cut by the Redskins two games into the 2015 season and earned a significant raise after being claimed via waivers the Raiders. Before the extension, he was due to make $880,000 in 2016.

Amerson started 12 of the 14 games he played for the Raiders last season and recorded four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He has six interceptions and two forced fumbles in his 47-game career.

  1. Good on Reggie for locking him up now. If he has a great year as expected, he’d be looking for a lot more next year.

And the way Reggie writes contracts, I am sure there is an easy out for the Raiders (not much if any dead money), should they want to cut bait sooner.

    DC is next!

  2. He played at a Pro Bowl level last year, but I bet you Reg has some built in insurance in case he hits the bottle hard again. Nobody protects themselves in contracts like big Reg does.

Another fine transaction by the Washington Football Team.

    I agree. Those dang Redskins.

  4. As a REDSKINS fan, I’m glad to see that he did well after we cut him. I liked him at NC State and thought he was going to be a good player for us. He just never played very well, Breeland took his starting job and kept it. I read an interview where he said that after we cut him that it woke him up and he realized the work he needed to put in to make it in the NFL.

So I guess to Raiders fans, you’re welcome lol! Lets hope he doesn’t get lazy again now that he’s signed to $18MM guaranteed.

  5. As a Colts fan:
That’s a well deserved contract right there.
Hope he plays at that level for the duration of the deal.

Raiders, you guys have a steal

  6. He is just 24. Good job, Reggie, and like someone mentioned above, Reggie protected the team with the structure of the contract.

  7. For those that like to bash Reggie, This was a helluva waiver wire pick up. He earned the extension and congrats to David and Reggie on a job well done!!!

    RAIDER NATION!!!!!!!

  8. A nice, smart signing, assuming he play’s anywhere near the level he played last year. The Raiders really have a nice core of players signed for the next 3-4 years. They are setting themselves up nicely to pay for future contract’s for Carr and Mack, possibly Cooper as well down the road. They should have a nice window to make a legitimate post season push over that time. They can address LT, S, MLB, RT, K and depth over the next several years, they are in a really good spot now going forward.

  9. Oakland’s best corner last season, but that is not saying much. Seems like a lot of money for a #2, but if he continues to play well, the pass rush will benefit.

  10. It’s a cheaper contract than Hayden’s would’ve been if he didn’t bust, but we still get the player we need who’s actually younger/longer/better… Nice. Go reg.

  11. Yup, had to lock him up. Performed well and a solid #2.

My take is he wasn’t fully focused in Washington and has some off field drama. If he can stay zeroed in and cut out bad influences, no reason he shouldn’t perform even better this year.

Let’s get a ring boys – the Raider Renaissance has returned

  12. Great deal by Reggie. Janoris Jenkins got 5 yrs/$62 mil. with $29 guaranteed. He set next year’s CB free agent market. Amerson finished as PFF’s 13th ranked corner while Jenkins was 25th. Some may not put stock in PFF’s rankings, but NFL teams do. Raiders fans, Sean Smith finished at 14. Mark Davis asked Reggie last offseason for two corners. Well Mark….you got ’em!!! GO RAIDERS!!!

  15. Raiders are quietly developing a potential for a top 5 secondary for years to come.

Smith, Amerson, Carrie, Nelson, Joseph. Damn!!

  16. We cut him for a reason. It’s good to see that he has put his head on straight, at least for one season.
Best wishes to you Oakland, you guys are on the up and up.

  17. The Raiders Defensive Backs coaches are Marcus Robertson (two-time All-Pro) and Rod Woodson (Rod F’n Woodson) and Amerson played along side Charles Woodson..those guys know a thing or two about playing DB at a high level. Amerson excelled under great coaching.

  18. My question: Is he ever going to play in that 2 billion dollar stadium in Las Vagus?

  19. Amerson was an absolute stud his second to last year at NC State, then flopped hardcore his last year. Burnt regularly.

Guess the spark is back for this guy.

  21. I don’t know, this feels like too much too soon. I know he came in a played well, but I would like to see how he does without Cwood back there. But I also understand that if you think the guy is the future, you can’t take a chance letting him walk.
