Jaguars have no plans to sign Greg Hardy now, but could later

Yes, the Jaguars gave free-agent defensive end Greg Hardy a visit and a workout. No, they won’t be signing him, yet.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the Jaguars wanted to learn more about Hardy so that they’ll know more about him if at some point down the road they need him.

That could be in a week. That could be in a month. That could be late in the regular season or in the postseason.

If they’d been blown away by Hardy, they likely would have signed him now. As it stands, they were doing their due diligence regarding who he is as a player and his issues in Carolina and Dallas.

The Jaguars first considered the possibility of looking at Hardy in March, but they deliberately waited to see how he conducted himself during his search for work.

Moving forward, the Jaguars know more about him if they find themselves in a situation where they urgently need help at a position that doesn’t have many competent free-agent players readily available. They now know more about Hardy, and it’s possible that at some point down the road they’ll make a move.

It means they haven’t slammed the door on signing him. But there’s no guarantee he’ll be walking through the door in the near future, or ever.

Whatever and whenever they make a decision, the move won’t be influenced, we’re told, by public reaction to the possible move. The Jaguars want to win, Hardy is eligible to be signed, and the possibility that someone will criticize the team for giving him another second chance won’t be a factor.

  1. Yawn. Whatever – they’ll sign him. They’re just softening the outrage in hopes that they can ease into signing a talented headcase.

Greg Hardy is still a piece of garbage, and as soon as he has handlers out of his life (as in, soon), he’ll be exposed for the coddled simpleton that he is.

    Just wait.

  2. This would set them back five years.

In order for marijuana to grow you’ve got to cut off the bad leaves so the plant doesn’t waste energy on something that’s already dead.

  3. The Jaguars couldn’t just watch Hardy’s game film from last year and realize he isn’t worth the public relations risk? Greg Hardy is hot garbage.

  4. Why do they waste time “kickin the tires”? – He might as well have the plague! Unless he’s planning on the using the Ray Rice : ” I’ll give ALL my salary to abused women everywhere- just to play again” plea ? He’s DONE – until someone gets absolutely desperate, then it’ll probably be the usual suspects…back to Dallas, Cincy, Cleveland or maybe Rex’ll need him to save him & his blimpo brothers job for another season !

  5. As a Cowboy fan i watched as this punk almost tore that team apart. I am stunned any team would even consider him after his missed practices, missed meetings and really really poor play down the stretch caused by his all night partying. The very fact that the Patriots**** haven’t taken a shot at him should tell you how bad he really is .

  6. Doing due diligence????? On Greg Hardy??? He’s an open book but apparently the Jags can’t read.

  7. If Hardy is in the passenger seat, his weight will push the driver side up out of the water and save Dennard from drowning. That’s my reasoning for the interest.

  8. This is the NFL. IF the guy stands some kind of a chance rushing the passer, and isn’t dead, imprisoned or suspended … you gotta at least sniff.

Whether or not you choose to bring it home is up to you.

  9. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse. I can’t believe they are seriously considering this. Might as well go ahead and sign Ray Rice while you’re at it. Maybe they can sign Rae Carruth when he gets out of prison too.

  10. 1. Hardy wasn’t that good last year

    2. He seems to be a locker room cancer

    3. He has some nasty baggage

    So why bother signing him?
Why not take a risk on a UDFA prospect who looks promising?

  11. Good for him. I still think Nicole Holder was looking to smash and grab on him from the first minute she showed up to the after party. All you internet courtroom journalists should dive into the facts of the case for yourselves. And as far as the pictures go, those “wounds” are concurrent with defensive markings on an attacker. Look at the man. Look at the woman. You are telling me he was trying to kill her, and THATS what he left? Idiots.

  12. Only a pathetic organization like the Cowgirls, would sign a person like Hardy. 2 playoff games in twenty years, and without a blown PI call would of not beat Detroit. Hardy and the Cowgirls deserve each other. Totally irrevelant Haedy and Cowgirls. Most overated team in all of pro sports history. Desperate jerry is the only one willing to take on this loser.
