Ryan Fitzpatrick declines comment on 2016 plans at golf tournament

Earlier this week, we learned that Ryan Fitzpatrick has not renewed the lease on the New Jersey home he was renting while playing for the Jets last season.

There are no shortage of reasons why someone decides to make a change in living arrangements, but the one that would be most relevant in this corner of the world is that Fitzpatrick has decided not to return for another year as the team’s quarterback. The answer to that question may come at some point, but it didn’t come when reporters asked Fitzpatrick for comment on his status with the Jets while Fitzpatrick was at a celebrity golf tournament.

“Not right now,” Fitzpatrick said, via the New York Post.

Tournament organizers said they received several media requests for time with Fitzpatrick and that the quarterback declined them all. That may be because there’s nothing left to say as the extended nature of his impasse with the Jets has left little intrigue about what’s keeping the two sides from reuniting for another run. At this point, the only announcements from either side that will change things are going to be about a deal or about a final end to negotiations.

  1. He will retire. Jets won’t go his price, and he has done a cost analysis of the pros and cons, and it’s not worth it. Enjoy Geno.

It’s funny that Broncos fans think they have a better chance with Sanchez than Fitz.

Chef fans act like they’re the greatest organization in the history of sports yet they’ve won nothing since 1970?..pathetic franchise

If RF is so wonderful, why hasn’t another team picked him up?

    ———————————————–

Because of the same reason he hasn’t signed with the Jets… He’s asking for too much money.

  4. Fitz will play this year somewhere and Sanchez will be running into Butts……

  5. Shave the beard, sign a one year deal and make some money. The jets are not committed to him so a one year deal works for them. He needs to prove he is not a one year wonder and this is a good chance to do that. It all makes good business sense except the beard part. I threw that in.

  6. Jets need to pull their head out of their rear-end.

Sign Fitz to a decent one year deal.
Let him walk next year if he does not play well.
Pay him more if he does.

It is really pretty simple. You don’t want Geno as your starter…

Don’t know but at this point the Jets need him more than any other teams need him. He knows the system and was wildly successful in the system last year.

In any case the Jets could have avoided this by signing him to 2 or 3 year back up deal when he first joined the team with zero leverage. Now that he produced the season as a starter for the Jets that he did he wants starter money. And from what I can tell he’s not even asking for the median or average starter pay, he’s asking for low end starter money.

  8. He’s playing a dangerous game for a guy with average to below average talent

  9. Who Cares? This guy had one average to good year. He is holding the organization hostage. If the Jets allow him to do so its on them.

  10. I feel bad for that Jets coach. It wont matter how good he is, he is fighting with a short stick with Geno at QB. And the only way he gets a decent QB is by winning 4 games or less so he can draft high next year. He wont make it to year 4 as HC.

He doesn’t want a one year contract. That, along with him wanting more than the Jets are willing to pay, is part of the problem.

How is this a “dangerous” game? Will somebody die if the Jets decide to move on? The fact of the matter is Fitz has made about $40 million in his career. Since he graduated from Harvard with a Bachelors in Mathematics I doubt he’s been making it rain in night clubs and probably has that money invested somewhere making him more money. Also if this doesn’t workout for him he likely has the degree and connections to find lucrative work outside of the NFL.

It comes down to respect. The guy delivered a season above and beyond what anyone envisioned and he wants to be paid below average starter money as his reward. The Jets want to reward him with high end backup pay. If he was a rookie who hadn’t made much in the league he might be worried.

He wants $12million per year, the Jets are offering $8 million. Worse case the Jets move on and he signs a backup deal that pays him between $2 and 4 million this year. I personally think someone of his intellect has thought out all possible outcome and is likely comfortable with all. Sure he has his preffered outcome but if it doesn’t happen it’s not the end of the world or “dangerous”

If RF is so wonderful, why hasn’t another team picked him up?

because he wants $18 million per year from any team.

Bronco’s might have signed him but (4-2 in-the- playoffs)
Mark Sanchez might be better and only cost them $7 million

  14. hmm…Fitzy could not get the Jets into the playoffs…well I think Geno could do that just as well…and cheaper.

    bye bye Haah-vahd!

  15. I’m glad the Jets are playing hardball with Fitz.

He had a brilliant year last year but hes a journeyman and hasnt suddenly turned into ‘Rich Gannon II’

He made a fortune with the Bills yet still wants more and more money. Thats what i find so depressing about the NFL, you have players who have earnt 50 or 100 mill and still theyre moaning about why they should earn an extra 5 mill or something.

They’ll never spend that money in their lifetime ! But nope they still want more.

Hope the Jets move on, Fitz wont get a starting gig anywhere else and will just get a lowly backup role.

  16. The Jets couldn’t pay him more that 8mil/yr even if they wanted to. They don’t have the cap room, even after reducing MWilkerson’s hit.

  17. Maybe he is in the middle of negotiating the price of renewing his lease on the house and that is why he hasn’the renewed it yet……
    Hahaha

That’s not at all what Broncos fans think here in Denver. We’re embarrassed that’s what the front office thinks. What’s really funny is that the Chiefs think they have a chance at winning period. Your quarterback situation has been a joke for over 30 years.

  19. The Jets want to pay him the second lowest starting QB salary in football.

So think about being the lowest paid player in your industry before you go calling him greedy.

  20. The only people freaking out over Fitz are non-Jet fans. Geno is a superior athlete who is entering his 4th year with an offense far superior to the one he previously played with. Went 8-8 as a rookie with no receivers. In 2014, in games vs NE, compare his stats to Brady’s. Nearly identical. Was one of the top ranked QB’s in completions of 20 yards or more. Fitz was at the bottom last year. Had a perfect rating in final start vs Miami, going 20-25 for 358 and 3 TD’s in a 37-24 win. (knocking Mia out of playoffs)No other QB had a perfect game in 14. He’ll do well in this system. Relax, Jet trolls…we’re good.

Again if he was worth more than that he’d have a job! Several teams have shaky QB issues; Rams, Browns, 49ers, Bronco’s, Bill’s (?), and even the Falcons (the Ice hasn’t been great), maybe even Jags or Miami (how are those QB’s doing?)

  22. Camps open next week. Just wait til the Jets see the Scrapple they have at QB…….they’ll raise that offer to Fitz.

That’s why he didn’t renew his lease –he’s movin’ on up !!!

  23. Have to admit, it would be funny if Belichick signed him. Then, if Geno doesn’t work out, trade him to the Jets for a decent draft pick. Now that would be funny. And it would be so Jets-like.

  24. I think beardie boy is a decent QB but has lacked consistent performance’s from one season to the next. He has to earn something this year as his earning years are dwindling. You can never earn enough money and you are a long time retired. Something will get worked out you would think. Also somebody will need a QB when training camp starts or soon into the season so the Jets also have reason to get a deal done.

  25. If the Jets goal is to win the Super Bowl (as most teams are), you have to ask; is FP that guy? If it’s yes than I’m pretty sure they would not have hesitated to sign him to a 15 mil contract, would you? That’s the answer, he’s not “The Guy”…the horse is totally dead now 🙂

  26. I don’t get all these posters obsession with Fitz…I wonder if all of you even watched a Jets game last season. He could never pinpoint his deep balls or lead his receivers on with his passes despite being in the league for almost 10 years. If you look at all the dropped interceptions, or should be interceptions the guy had an awful year. I won’t count that but something to think about. He beat up on an easy schedule but the only winning team he beat was New England in week 15. The offense stalled for 3 quarters almost every single game this year, despite playing a cupcake schedule.. but, the Jets had the top ranked red zone defense and kept them in the game. I’m glad we signed Mo an ELITE player who helped us go below the cap and that we aren’t caving into the demands of Josh McCown 2.0.

  27. Have to admit, it would be funny if Belichick signed him.
    ===================================
Even funnier if Bill i cheat doesn’t sign him and Jimmy G. goes 0-4.

  28. He couldn’t make the playoffs last year, who do the Jets need him so badly?

  29. 1. Fitzpatrick is going to make 0 this year, when he could have locked in 12 MM (8 this year and 4 next + next years salary if he plays)

    2. Fitz liked playing for the Jets last year, it;s not like he was working in a forced labor camp in North Korea.

If he blows this, he’s going to regret it the rest of his life.
One more big pay day (compared to his net worth) before retiring.

His agent screwed up, and he’ll pay for it.
