Mike McCarthy: Eddie Lacy is ready

AP

When the Packers players reported for training camp on Monday, coach Mike McCarthy said that he thinks quarterback Aaron Rodgers is in the best shape he’s been in during their time together.

McCarthy didn’t share his thoughts about running back Eddie Lacy’s condition, which was of interest after McCarthy opened up the offseason by saying that Lacy was too heavy last season. Lacy’s fitness came up on Tuesday as the Packers got set for their first practice of camp and the review was positive, although McCarthy added that it would be the last.

“Eddie is ready,” McCarthy said, via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’m done talking about people’s weight. I felt like I gave an honest answer.”

If the Packers had doubts about Lacy’s condition, they could have put him on the PUP list to open camp but he was given the green light to get on the field Tuesday. A return to form for Lacy this year would be a big positive for the Packers offense and for his own earning potential as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

  1. Aaron Rodger and Eddie Lacy in the best shape of their lives! It almost sounds like half media is giving the Superbowl to the Packers on that reasoning.
Though I am guessing the O will be the same and D/ST with the same problems.

  2. And THAT is why the Packers are such heavy favorites to contend for a championship again this year.

The Packers have Far more championships than anyone in football. Is that fair? I say yes.

    Better football.

    For better people.

Nope not a chance. Taking a hard stance with their players is not the Packer’s way. Public shaming, now that is right up the Packer’s alley.

And now McCarthy is tired of getting questions about his team’s dirty laundry that HE made public. SMH

  4. I know the refs will do everything in their power to help them out, but this really seems like the year when everything starts to fall apart for the packers.

who is starting in the middle of that defense? that has to be concerning to their championship desires.

and what if Linsley, Lang, Baluga, Bakhtiari and Montgomery miss significant time again and Jordy just isn’t the same?? Then WHAT? Cook could be a huge disappointment as well.

  5. I wish every player in every camp around the NFL a safe training camp – because I care.

Fortunately the Packers have a spotless record in that regard.

  6. Ready to eat a hot dog, fries, chicken nuggets, hamburger, potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip muffin, donuts, and ring dings…..

  7. Viking trolls know their insults is simply more wishful thinking. The Packers overall run game has been more valuable to the Packers in the last three years than the Vikings run game has been to the Vikings in the same period of time………….. and for a heck of a lot less money and ego drama.

    Get Ready for Phat Eddie!

    ________

Who else finds it hilarious that Mike McCarthy (now) doesn’t want to talk about people’s weight?

    Mike “I’m-As-Ready-As-Eddie” McCarthy.

  9. Eddie Lacy is ready to run, stumble, fall down, get up, run, and fall down again. He’s good at that.

  10. That’s funny when you take the annual ESPN vote for a Packers Division this year everybody else says it’s Minnesota again..
But you Packer fans CAN dream, as your Packers circle the bowl going down as third (3rd) in the NFCN this year…and miss the playoffs even tho the league keeps trying to GIVE them all the help they can with the easiest schedule in the League..
Logic goes out the window when it comes to the Packers…. BUT I PUT A CURSE ON THE PACKERS…. as long as Lacy is on the team they finish no better than 2nd in the Division…..

Well, I guess you wanna follow the ESPN clown show. Check out the Las Vegas futures. The Patriots are the only team ahead of Green Bay for Super Bowl odds, and Packers/Seahawks are favorites to win the NFC. Good Luck. I hope you enjoyed last year.
