Hakeem Nicks is heading to New Orleans.

The veteran receiver is signing with the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Nicks worked out for the Saints in May, but there’s been little talk about him since then.

New Orleans has a very young and inexperienced receiving corps, so Nicks may provide some veteran leadership. But it’s fair to wonder whether the 28-year-old has much left: Last year he managed just seven catches for 54 yards in six games.

Overall, Nicks has played seven NFL seasons and caught 356 passes for 5,081 yards and 31 touchdowns.

  1. Should’ve signed him a couple of years ago then the Saints would’ve had Hakeem Nicks and Akiem Hicks.

  2. He’s only 28 years old and they were supposedly looking to sign Boldin who’s 35.

  3. ouch that’s harsh, washed up at age 28. Not disagreeing lol, just sayin

  4. They may be young and inexperienced, but they’re a talented bunch. He’s has a steep climb if he wants to make it on the roster. If he has anything left in the tank, including fumes, Brees will get it out of him.

  5. With 3 other good receivers and a good tight end to cover, Nicks may find himself open on a few occasions. Who better than Brees to notice and get him the ball. Saints missed playoffs in ’07 & ’08, then won SB in ’09. They missed playoffs last 2 years, so that means…
