One of the reasons why the Cardinals signed veteran cornerback Mike Jenkins this offseason was because Justin Bethel is dealing with a foot injury that is keeping him on the sideline, but he’ll miss some chances to stake his claim on playing time in the near future.
Jenkins broke a bone in his hand during Friday’s practice and, per the team, will be out indefinitely while he recovers from the injury. The 2008 Cowboys first-round pick spent the last two years playing for the Buccaneers and made five starts in his 14 appearances last season.
With Jenkins and Bethel both out of action, Patrick Peterson will be joined by third-round pick Brandon Williams, sixth-round pick Harlan Miller, Asa Jackson and Shaun Prater at corner for the time being. Former Raider Tyvon Branch could also get a look at corner in Arizona.
The Cardinals are also missing safety Tyrann Mathieu in the secondary as he spends time on the PUP list following last year’s torn ACL.
