A photo of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo jogging to the practice field has triggered plenty of speculation that he needs to do a lot more jogging. And a ton of jokes.
“Has to be a bad angle or extra rib protection, right?” Jim Rome tweeted. “Otherwise, good thing NFL doesn’t test for Krispy Kreme.”
But the guy who took the photo is taking the blame. Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News calls it “poor camera work” and insists that Romo “is not overweight.” Other photos seem to confirm this.
That said, it’s not uncommon for quarterbacks to be a little thick in the midsection. Russell Wilson is. Ben Roethlisberger is. Romo always has been. Extra weight can add to durability; Brett Favre once learned after getting lean one offseason that the bumps and bruises came a lot more easily.
By the way, the photo accompanying this post isn’t Romo. In case anyone actually thought it was.
