Sammy Watkins cleared for practice

The Bills spent the weekend shuffling their linebacking corps because injuries had thinned out the position, but they’re getting healthier in a couple of other spots.

The team announced on Monday morning that wide receiver Sammy Watkins and defensive tackles Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus have all been cleared to practice. Watkins and Williams were on the physically unable to perform list while Dareus was on the non-football illness list.

Watkins hasn’t practiced with the team since having surgery on his left foot in May and entered camp unsure about when he’d be given the green light. Watkins made steady progress in his rehab, however, and always appeared to be on track for the start of the regular season.

Williams ended last season on injured reserve with a knee injury and trimmed his salary in March in order to remain with the team. The Bills didn’t disclose the reason why Dareus opened camp on the NFI list and it won’t make much of a difference if he returns to form in time for Week One.

  1. When it’s all said and done, Watkins will be considered a better receiver than Odell.

Sammy’s story will include statements of “played through injuries”, and “dominated per target statistics.”

Odell’s will have statements like, “he made one great catch on Sunday night, but was mainly a dirty, whiny, punk, who couldn’t handle facing elite corners like Josh Norman and Ronald Darby.”

  2. Come on out Trolls. Tell us how Sammy is a bust even though his stats are comparable to Julio Jones, and Calvin Johnson, and better than Antonio Browns…in his first 2 seasons

    Watkins 2029 15 TDs
    Jones 2157 18 TDS
    Calvin Johnson 2087 16 TDs
    Brown (3 years) 2062 7 TDs

That’s playing with Kyle Orton/ EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor a new starter in a run heavy offense( top rushing offense in the NFL)He’s only missed 3 games in 2 seasons.

    But keep on hating Trolls.

Spot on post!! The trolls just don’t know what they are talking about, big mouth Beckham has been hurt more than Watkins.

  4. Honestly Beckham has been pretty darn prolific to say the least. But you can take into account the Giants are a pretty pass happy offense and they have been playing catch up the past 2 years since they have had the 29th and 32nd ranked defense in those years which has given him quite a few opportunities not to mention playing with a quality QB who is willing to throw it up unlike Orton or Manuel were.

If Sammy stays healthy and he and Tyrod continue to build on last season he’s going to have a pretty good season. Looking at the last 9 games last season he was pretty darn amazing considering we ran the ball the majority of the time.

I personally am expecting a much more wide open playbook this year from Roman. I think the coaches have a lot of trust in Tyrod now and having a healthy Woods and after seeing Dez Lewis growth the Bills may have some dent targets to take the heat off of Sammy.
