The Dolphins plan to give running back Arian Foster his first playing time of the preseason against the Cowboys on Friday night and Foster said Wednesday that his return to the field comes as his confidence in his health has returned.

Foster tore his right Achilles 10 months ago and Foster said “it’s back” and “we’re good” when discussing his faith in how it will hold up in his return to game action. Coach Adam Gase said the plan isn’t for Foster to see a ton of playing time -- “we know what he can do” -- but Foster says any playing time will be beneficial after such a long layoff.

“Some years you don’t really feel like you need any,” Foster said, via the Palm Beach Post. “Some years, you feel like you need some. So it kind of varies as the years go. I need some this year. It’s been a while since I’ve been hit. Games are different. You want to get that feel of getting hit week in and week out again.”

Foster is No. 2 on the depth chart behind Jay Ajayi right now, but it’s been hard to miss the suggestions from Dolphins camp that the top job will either go to Foster or be something closer to a time share if the veteran is indeed back on form in 2016.
