Cowboys Executive V.P. Stephen Jones says the way the team looks at Greg Hardy is simple: The team took a chance on a talented player last year, he didn’t perform up to expectations, and now they’ve moved on.
Asked today on PFT Live if there is any way the Cowboys would consider bringing Hardy back, Jones shut the door on it.
“I don’t see that happening. We certainly had that experiment, and unfortunately it didn’t work out,” Jones said. “We’ve moved on and we think we’ve got some good football players on our defensive line that should only get better. They’re young. I’m certainly not naive, I know we don’t have proven production on that defensive line as we sit here today, but I do think we have some good athletes that are only going to get better.”
Hardy is undeniably talented, but the ugly domestic violence accusations leveled against him -- and the way he has come across as less than remorseful in discussing those allegations -- may make it hard for any team to justify signing him.
Jones did say the Cowboys would be open to adding a veteran to their defensive line.
“We’ll certainly keep our eyes peeled to see if there’s anyone else who makes sense to add to that group,” Jones said.
But it won’t be Hardy.
